War with my Strata council of course!!! A couple members of the strata council came by tonight to tell my husband and I that we are going to lose our trees behind our townhouse. The trees have been here for fourteen years and have provided perfect privacy. Now they (the Strata council) want to remove them. We have only been here for two years. A brand new townhouse development was just built just behind our place and the trees are the only privacy we have. Our nice wooden fence was recently torn down and replaced with a chain link fence. We feel as though we live in a "fish bowl" now. When the trees go, it will be even worse.

My husband is threatening to sue them! I guess we will have to look into that.

Good Loard, Will HOAs just stay the hell out of some issues. Maybe you have an Arborist foundation you can get on your side - heck, if you were in Boulder you could easily get some hippies to tie themselves to the trees. The first notion that comes to mind is tghey are denying your right to privacy and the second is HOAs are usually unbeatable . Hopefully you will win this case and those "haven't got anything better to do then make others lives miserable in their own homes" committees learn where to keep their nose out of the picture and when is an actual appropriate time to .

Sorry about the pain you are suffering too, haven't had much time to be posting, but I am reading - sometimes don't know what to say because I don't want to sound phony.

How was it decided that the trees should be cut down anyway? Do residents vote or does the council operate like a kind of oligarchy? What do other residents have to say about the proposed removal of the trees? If enough of you guys get together, can you (for example) sign a petition and force the council to leave the trees alone? I hope that you can save the trees!!!

The strata council informed us that the trees have to come down. Usually they bring these issues up a their annual meetings. However, all of the Units are being painted and other work is being done as well. This was news to us. We are in total shock. There should by rights be a meeting where we can vote. Although, we have found it does not really matter if we vote or not - things go the way the majority living here want.

There is probably not much we can do - except sell the place and move.

Thanks gang for your support.

I would think that they would have to provide a reason for wanting to cut the trees down - after all, it is being paid out of the group's budget.

The thing I can think is that they don't want to have to maintain them. Even just trimming branches to keep the trees healthy can cost a few hundred dollars each time vs a few hundred once just to get rid of them.

My husband and I are wondering the same thing. He is going to ask them some questions this weekend. We may pay a visit to our City Hall.

Thanks.
