Oksana Baiul gets ready for 2026 Skate Vegas

Last year in real estate news there were features about Baiul putting her Shreveport (Louisiana) mansion up for sale, asking 1.2 million $US. She mentioned that she was moving her base permanently to Las Vegas because of lack of professional opportunities for her in the New Orleans area.

She placed second in the "Senior Elite-ProAm Lyrical Pop" category.

Just zipping down the very long list of events, my guess would be there weren't many entries - and sometimes none - in each class :wonder:. They do the same at many ballroom comps, and some couples dance the same program in several classes, wherever it sort of fits the description. A friend on the national federation executive said it was unspoken but understood that making that many classes with very often only one or two entrants ensured that "everybody goes home happy", i.e. with a prize.

Some classes, of course, would be taken more seriously, and be more competitive with more entrants, as I'm sure Oksana's was. (And in at least one ballroom comp I heard about recently, the organizers set a standard expected of each couple. If they didn't quite reach it, they would be awarded a second- or even a third-place ribbon even though they were the only entry in the class. :slink: .)
