On Site Reports @ Worlds 2016

Mao did a clean SP including a beautiful 3A, 3Lo-2Lo and 3Lo from a spread eagle. Both Rika and Satoko did clean LPs. The Japanese ladies are ready!!

At the end of practice, Satoko did some double flips in the reverse direction.

I really can't see the prerotation in real time, but some of her flips and lutzes have a scratch sound before she takes off, not a clean pick sound.

You can learn a lot by listening to a skaters, skates. You can definitely hear pre and under rotations when you're in the arena.

That's her natural jump direction but she was taught to jump counter-clockwise. She doesn't have a clean pick sound because it's a strategy she and Ilia Kulik came up with, because she lacks muscle power to help her jump. She's working on fixing that though. :)

She broke her boot. Again.

Is this a joke? If so, I do not find it funny. If it's true........She better have a back up pair....:drama: My heart!!!!

In an interview before 4CC, she said she brought three boots to Taiwan with her. I sincerely hope she brought them to Boston!

Mirai Nagasu's suitcase will be a little heavier than usual this week when she travels to the 2016 Four Continents Championships in Chinese Taipei.

"She'll be bringing three pairs of skates," explained her coach, Tom Zakrajsek.
The added weight is worth any extra travel charges she incurs considering the stress that the skater and coach went through at the 2016 U.S. Figure Skating Championships last month in Saint Paul, Minnesota. That's where Nagasu's landing boot (right foot) ripped in the middle of her short program.

Geeze........How on earth can you break 2 pairs of New Boots??? It's like two freak accidents in a row. It's weird.

Jackie Wong tweeted that Mirai's boot is being fixed right now. Does that mean she won't use a different pair?

Ok People, I have another question. Is it possible that Moa could win?? After placing 3rd at Her Nationals, I had kind of written her off. I should really know better considering who my fav is......:drama:

If this is her main pair, then this is the pair she feels most comfortable with when skating. She can switch to another pair, but the feel is awkward, especially two days before competition. Hopefully this is just some last minute drama and prompts her to focus more. All I know is, Jackson skates is not looking good right now.

How many skaters use Jackson boots? How many of these incidences have happened?

In my opinion, of course it is possible. The ladies' podium is not as predictable as the men's podium. If Mao delivers she should win, she is the best skater in this competition. She just... needs to stay away from underrotations or pops.

Why is Satoko wearing her costume? I find it kind of adorable, but it doesn't seem as any of the other skaters do that. Maybe it's a psychological thing - dressed for success. If you are dressed as though it's competition, you'll skate like it's competition?

Patrick struggling with his 3axels in LP run through.

ETA: sigh, still struggling on 3a and other jumps.

Nam struggling through his LP run through. Lost a jump entrance completely (3a?), falls, step outs. That was rough. This music is so wrong for him.

This happens in dance all the time. Also, Satoko may be wearing a dress that is similar and "Looks" like her real costume so that her coaches can see it under the arena lights. The lighting in the arena can change a Red Dress to a Navy Blue and even Purple in some cases.

Sadly, I use Jackson skates. Good fit, nice and stiff. However, what I'm talking about is Jackson skates breaking twice on Mirai in major competitions. Skate manufacturers depend on high level skaters wearing the boots to sell to lower level skaters in Ice rinks over the country. When a skater has a huge mishap like this, or injuries like Polina and Karen it can hurt business. I know that Jackson's are probably some of the most popular. So this might sting if retailers consider switching.

Sometimes it is not a matter of how often a problem occurs but how the problem is handled when it happens. I would rather work with a company that has problems more often but are stellar about fixing than a company that rarely has issues, but when you do, good luck getting fixed.

Even if other skaters are not having an issue, it still shows that they don't seem to be very good at fixing issues when the show up. Once (at Nationals) is one thing, but for it to happen on the same foot two months later to me shows that they either did not fix it properly, or don't know how fix it, or don't know how to tell the difference between a random occurrence and an actual issue for a skater. It happening again makes me wonder if they did not address it properly the first time.
