Opening Ceremony

Wonderful opening by Italia. Tackling the global political disease that we are having right now, I felt it was heartwarming to have a peace message. Well done Italia!

So...how many figure skaters did you guys catch?
I wasn't really concentrating...might have been because of the Cava...

I saw
Bulgaria - Feigin
Georgia - Gubanova
Israel - Seniuk
Mexico - Carrillo
Romania - Sauter

Surely there must have been more...

Selevko
the female Mrazek and the male Taschler. I guess the other two siblings were there but I wasn't fast enough to see them

Thanks, I still would have liked to see it. Someday, I'll find a commercial free stream and a VPN that works with it

Canada, you have betrayed me 😞
you know... I pay heavy income taxes for CBC... so you are getting a free ride... just be grateful :)

He and Sarah Brightman are gonna do "Time to say Goodbye" during the closing ceremonies. You heard it here first.

Yep, I think that's a given!

I bailed out last night as soon as the live pictures finished and they went back to the TNT Sports studio, because I didn't know how long they were going to stay on air. I just checked, and it was only 15 minutes, so I watched it there now.

Orla had been replaced as presenter by somebody I don't know. Well, I suppose it was late and Orla has a family.

At the end of the coverage, they had a video showing all the Team GB 🥇 Gold Medallists over the years, and I have to say, figure skating featured heavily! (How times have changed!)

And in between singles skaters Jeanette Altwegg in 1952 and John Curry in 1976, it was so nice to see the first of our three Winter Olympic 🥇 Gold Medallists from Northern Ireland:

  • Robin Dixon, who won 🥇 in 1964 as part of the 2-Man Bobsleigh team with Englishman Tony Nash.

Our second and third 🥇 Gold Medallists (Geraldine Heaney and Owen Nolan, both in 2002 in Ice Hockey) weren't included, as they were representing Canada.

I don't think we have anybody this year. 😞 But I don't know for sure, because you never know where we might pop up! ;)

Did anyone in the USA catch the Delta Airlines ad (I think it was Delta) with Maia & Alex Shibutani in it? I thought that was kind of weird showing that ad considering that Maia & Alex didn't make the US Olympic Team.

Re: the Opening Cereomies - Loved hearing all of the Rossini music (and the heads of the Italian composers). Seeing so many figure skaters as flagbearers, Boccelli singing Nessun Dorma, etc. The Italian National Anthem (although isn't it usually peppier?) ...

I fast forward though ads but I do sort of remember Maia.....ads have to be done way out there in advance. I dont have any issues with skaters making money off of product endorsements...I dont "like" them on IG, etc. I just pass them by. But such is our society. I do endorse products that I have tested and reccommend for the benefit of my friends but I would not take money for doing so. Not my style. I dont want to see MLK or JFK or MK doing it either. Call me old fashioned.

I didn't get a chance to see everything, but I like what I've seen on social media.

I loved the singers, especially the one who sang the Italian national anthem. It was beautiful.

There seemed to be many moments of dignified national pride, and it was a welcome and refreshing contrast to the Paris ceremonies.

BTW, NBC chocked 4 countries during one commerical and admitted it at the end of the commercial. Unexcusable...they could have at least done split screen. At the very least, they owe those countries an apology and a showing of their entries.

No athlete took the oath to play fair.
Not that I saw.
Sportsmanship behavior is acceptable cheating expect cometitors to know and accept it so all completion can be Sportsman like behavior.

They should have invited those ski jumpers who inflated their privates to take the oath.

Is that not the wildest story you've ever heard?

Really. 1. Do u believe everything you read?
2. Made u notice?
3.why would they want to print that? What would their reason be? What response would they want from people that saw that?
What are they trying to communicate to me or you?
4. Are we or me their specific audience trying to reach?

I watched with uneven interest.

I liked the marble sculptures from the beginning. I like the Italian actress from White lotus part. She was good. I liked the hands gesture which is making Italy a bilingual country ;)

I wasn't impressed at all with Mariah Carey. She looked dead in there.
I am a fan of Cecilia Bartoli but not here and definitely not with Lang Lang. I mean, Italy has fine pianists, why not use one of their own?

I couldn't help comparing with Paris games there. Céline Dion won the diva Olympic gold and Alexander Kantorov definitely had a season best score with his very drenched ravel jeux d'eau performance versus very boring Lang Lang

Well, I'm a man, and I found a story that involved dudes shooting their junk up with hypodermic needles to fraudulently increase the bulge for aerodynamic reasons to be horrifying and hilarious and riveting content.

It sounds as though you don't believe the story. Which part? That they didn't do it, or that size doesn't matter in ski jumping? It's not a sport I follow, so I'm interested in the perspective of someone who does - and you obviously do.
