Yahoo has a detailed pictorial of the whole mess from the moment he drops her, to her being wheeled into the hospital in a chair. I deliberately didn't use any of those photos in the thread about their lousy pictures. All of those stills are downright painful to look at.

MM, from the articles it sounds like she doesn't remember much of what happened. But I'm sure he remembers every detail like it was a nightmare in slow motion. That's probably why she seems more *ready* to get back to work, and he looks terrified.
I can't even imagine what a huge responsibility these men in pairs must feel. They are the ones holding the ladies up in the lifts, thowing them up in the air over their heads, etc. Even if a fall is not the "man's fault" I still can't imagine how they must feel anyway.
God Bless all these pair skaters who brave these risks. It's sure exciting to watch, but you couldn't pay me enough to walk a mile in their boots.

I saw it LIVE and it was SHOCKING!!!
I'm almost sure it was a rut in the ice. Whether it was Zamboni's fault or Slavon's fault, is moot. O was about to be dumped by S in the same spot previously but he was able to save it. We all sighed with relief, but unfortunately, it was real for T&M. Not sure if O&S created the rut.
She didn't move for at least 5 minutes and we all thought the worst. They laid down the rubber mats so the medics could walk over the ice to get to her. They carried her out in a stretcher and cancelled the Awards Ceremony till Sunday. We learned Sunday that it was a slight concussion, and that all the Pairs contestants visited her in the hospital. She was on her feet. Wheww!
Apparently, she'll be skating again in two weeks.

When she fell on the ice, many people in the audience gasped, stood, clasped their hands over their faces, etc. What a terrible accident. Thank Heavens she's going to be all right.
This just shows how potentially dangerous pairs skating can be. Hopefully, we won't be seeing another accident of this magnitude ever, ever again.

The fall was shown on ESPN tonight at the end of tonight's airing of Skate America. I was shocked since I haven't been paying much attention to the news for the last couple of weeks (due to going on vacation - now, I'm in the post vacation mode of catching up on things that have happened since I went away.)
It definitely hurt to watch.

Yes, that fall was horrendous. The news keeps showing it. Poor girl. I remember a couple of seasons ago Kris and Kristi Wirtz were effected by an accident of another pair. He was so shook up he did not want to go on after them. They didn't even have the accident!! Pair skating is very dangerous and these couples are brave. Another Canadian pair - Doug LaDret and his partner Christine Hough had a similar accident:

I'm not sure where the rut in the ice keeps coming in to play. In the Good Morning America interview, they asked Maxim about a rut in the ice. Maxim said that no it was due to technical issues which I took to mean technique issues due to the Russian/English translation issue. They fell, which can always happen in pairs skating. Their coach is even making a point of saying they are not trying to blame anyone but will work on getting back to the ice slowly.
I hope Maxim does not beat himself up over this. It's very unfortunate and sad, but this is a risk that all pairs teams take every day they train or compete. Pairs skating is dangerous.

During the broadcast, it was mentioned that Inoue lost the tip of her pinky during pairs tryout.
I've also recalled Calla Urbanski having the palm of her hand slit by Rocky Marval's skate during a pro competition. The list can go on....
The worst one I can think of is Elena's with her former partner and Handy/Hunt.
It really is a dangerous sport.

Jenny Don lost the tip of her finger. As far as I know, Inoue is fine. :agree: And it was Paul Binnebose who skated with Laura Handy and had the horrible accident.

The last time I saw an interview with Paul Binnebose, his face was still partially paralyzed. It had been long enough after the accident that what you see is probably what you get as far as recovery.
Paul Hersch mentioned Bennebose in his article on the accident.

The only time I remember being equally frightened for a skater's well being was when Ingo and Stuer (sp?) had the fall at the olympics before they won their world championship. I can still vividly rememer him cradling her and carrying her off the ice and me thinking, "he needs to let her be immobilized and let the doctors get to her." She, too, suffered a severe concussion and was off the ice for a fair amount of time.
I can only add that I hope the new code of points can be adjusted so that high risk moves that fail will be severely deducted from the program and skating elements. I truely believe that in some sports, you can allow too many risks when there are already sufficient risks that exisit and are "knowns" in the sport. I hope pairs expands its rewards system to include fabulous skating technique, interesting choregraphy that connects the elements, more sychornized jumps and spins, and for god sakes, will someone work on some decent paris spins ( he takes a moment and calms down as he has just reallized he's lapsed into a rant) but anyway you get the picture...attempt to "balance" the skating so that skating in any dicipline isn't reduced to "most dangerous tricks" status.

Shocked and Hurt
I was so shocked when I first heared about the incident at the end of the ABC coverage on Oct. 24. I felt so bad for Tatiana that I almost cried. I respect every skater in every discipline and I certainly respect Totmianina and Marinin. I can't wait to for them to get back on the ice and competing at 2005 Worlds in Moscow. My heart goes out to you, Tania

I certainly like short program to "Ave Maria". One of the main reasons I Iike figure skating is because of the music
