Papadakis and Cizeron: "It was difficult"

I still hope VM win, but I remember the time this happened to me at a competition so I am finding a whole new compassion for Gabby

Also I'm pretty sure this can only help them in the free and in the long run. No such thing as bad advertising.

You guys - Ice Dance is making headlines! You know, the one discipline that normally gets "dancing pairs" and "how are ice dancers different from figure skaters".

I wished headlines were different. We're talking about the team that did "Build a home". Now, that deserves ALL the headlines :dev2:

Honestly really disappointed reading the responses in this thread. It's like people have never made a mistake or had an accident in their life.

I think they made the best of it. Kudos for Gabriella! I still maintain high hopes they will win. Because to me they definitely have the best FD of them all (and of course the SD is part of the whole competition so this is going to cost them), but obviously that still needs to be executed well.

I commented on this thread before the merge. I think it's a nightmare to have a costume malfunction! I felt horrible for Gabby, Yura and others as well. :ghug:

However from an analytical point of view and being honest to my eyes, either:

1. You let them start over. I love them and would have had no problem with this.

2. You judge what happened on the ice. I saw Gabby make shifts, look down, look around etc. just as you would expect someone in that situation to do. . She did 100X better than I ever would have, but it's crazy that you can miss eye contact for whole swaths of your program and not have it reflected in your PCS.

Something about the score sheet gave me flashbacks to an era where someone would fall but some judges would magically not see it  It's not cruel to note that the judges fell down on the job here while still feeling bad for Gabby.

I commented on this thread before the merge. I just want to be absolutely clear that these two things are distinct: I think it's an absolute nightmare to have your dress malfunction. I felt horrible for Gabby, Yura and others as well. :ghug:

1. No start over, that becomes too easily for a Tonya Hardinglike situation where she was bombing and played the system. Fix and start from where you left off is ok

2. This. I found Gabby’s costume distracting but it didn’t kill the skate for me

Kill, definitely not. 39.22 PCS though :scratch2::rolleye:

Where on God's green earth does that performance, score higher than VM in PCS? Come on skating fans, they are lucky to be in the final flight. Thanks also to Uncle Didier for his, um...support! :rolleye:

Hopefully this evenings results will be a reflection of skating than politicking. Next time Didier, more glue gun than, "gifts".

You know what? At least nobody can say that V/M scores are a gift. Now all those stories of the earrings of Tessa and the president of the federation among the judges sounds so ridiculous that I hope no one will ever touch that topic again.

If they really tried to sew the costume to avoid the malfunction and had problems with the dress for a longer time, I don't understand 1) why they didn't change the dress, 2) why they didn't change the choreo at the beginning. If you look closely Guilaime untied the top, and that could be easily avoided with a little change of choreo, I highly doubt it would hurt their PCS when the malfunction did not.

savage...
this was actually a new dress, though. so I don't think they knew it would happen. but yeah, that choreo needs to go...

The whole of the bodice is suspended from the collar, and that became unclasped in the first movement. It's amazing she manged to keep it almost up for most of the routine.

But I can't understand why the collar couldn't have been made with a secure fastening without really affecting the look of the dress, even without extra mesh etc - it is heavily stoned, and the clasp is quite broad and mostly hidden beneath her ponytail. Any number of buttons, poppers and hooks and eyes could be concealed within that. Massive design fail.

She did absolutely astonishingly well, considering the seriousness of the dress failure, but still, it did affect the routine, and their score surprised me.

This is okay? I think this is just as insulting as any remarks about earrings concerning V/M. And what about the Canadian Judge? In fact in ID the remarks about conspiracies in judging are really going very far. I understand the passion of some folks, but now it's even taking it so far that the difference should be bigger so a certain couple can win. And if they don't, there's a conspiracy going on. With fans of the sport such as these, we don't even need real scandals, we just make them up!

Sorry if I hit a nerve Jane, but to be fair, do you honestly feel that PC deserved higher PCS than the rest of the field?

On slo mo his hand hits the dress just grazes it and it falls apart. A two good safety pins would secure that. Seriously some nerves or stupidity allowed that. I am shocked their PCS was higher than VM. It definitely affected the skate and millions watching were very anxious what would happen next.

A preventable accident for sure.

In SS, really? Even when you compare them to V/M?

Of course. That glide is unmatched, the knee bend is crazy, there is never ANY snow (which the judges hate so much... usually), they are so quiet on the ice, yet the edges are big and deep. Like I said in another post : This is the Rumba pattern this year, it's practically a gift for them. The seamlessness that everyone (including V/M) is talking about, it does play a huge part in that SS score.
