Patrick Chan

i m refering to immediate future... :) not 2 seconds later :) i tend to say that there's no present even :)

Yes, all present moment is already an immediate past due to our delayed perceptions. Speed of light is fast, but it still takes time to reach us and to be perceived and then interpreted. :)

Wow, a full page and a half since I last posted!

You sure you guys don't want to write a blog post about Patrick's "flow"? I think it would be a very interesting discussion! In fact, I could just lift your words from here and put it into one post!

I am going to worlds. :hap93: I try to visit every competition in Europe Patrick skates in. A lot of canadian fans will not come to Europe for a skating event, so I hope a lot of Chan-supporters form Europe will come. How about you?

That's awesome. I also hope a lot of Patrick's supporters will go!

I'm going too, so I ask, if some Patrick's fans from here will go😉

Lucky you! Welcome, and do let us know how it goes!

Out of curiosity I checked flight to Helsinki, but they're a bit on the expensive side for me. :(

I thought I was done with the Nats blog posts, but I still have a bit more to add, such as the wonderful onsite reports from Blueberryhill, etc. In the meantime, here are some more photos posted by Skate Ontario (hat tip to @QuadAxel3T)!

hehe vivley..

What VB and I are discussing is not really worth a blog... it's just neuro-linguistic programming... :) it seems that Patrick is referring to some of that lately, and that is why we are picking up on it...

simply we could just say : focus on the process ;) and that would summarize most of it...

I added the long path to embracing humility and we talked about 'the zone" which is a state of near euphoric focus which allows to master all the outside factors to deliver the performance the body is trained for...

However, where my understanding of it may differ from what is done in figure skating is that in my field, technically, there are no challenges per se... things that are a bit more difficult take a bit longer to solve but when i get on stage, normally, everything is solved... For some athletes, it's not true... sometimes, they will struggle with a jump or a spin for instance, so the zone there is difficult to maintain or even to reach as there are planned failures or risky movements..
That's why I appreciated so much Patrick saying that he only includes jumps when they are landed 80% in practice....

I talked to a coach of a skater I won't name who was trying to add a jump in her long program... She's landed the jump cleanly a few times in practice... but it wasn't even close to 50%.... yet, she would include it in her programs... she's never landed it yet...

Nathan Chen talks about the training with Patrick ( i don´t understand anything, please summary)

Ah, you beat me to it. Basically Nathan said Patrick is one of the best skaters he's skated with. Patrick draws you into his choreography, and Nathan tries to incorporate Patrick's elements into his programs, but... "it's hard to be Patrick Chan, I guess." :)

Thank you

Most stuffed toys tossed for skaters are donated to local children's hospitals but, a few years ago while doing a show in China, Yagudin was looking forward to taking them home to his daughter. :)

I wonder about the giant lion Patrick picked up at 2011 Nationals. I hope he keeps it for sentimental reasons as well as for his future children. :)

what? is there are story i don't know about?
You don't remember the article about gifts throwing on ice for skaters? Patrick got some... underwears sometimes ago. Others got... pizza. :laugh2: Well that's practical.

Here's a link to an article from a few years ago:

This says that in Canada, stuff toys are not accepted by hospitals unless they've been dry cleaned first. It infers that most will end up in landfills. :eeking: :disapp: I thought it was hilarious that Jeff Buttle once got a Louis Vuitton bag thrown on the ice.

This is what I think they did at both Nationals that I attended in Ottawa. It appears they recycled the tossies thrown on the ice. You would go to a booth, make a donation and get some stuffies. They are thrown on the ice and then returned to the booth. In both case Canadian Tire (the sponsors) raised over $1000 for charity.
