Peacock this season

Why didn't they give us advance notice? Even U.S. figure skating should have been shouting this from the mountaintops weeks ago! No, they are trying to do this on the sly. That's why Peacock is offering the generous discount this month. They realize if they had revealed ahead of time that there would only be live streaming of fs, it's just not as attractive for what we as fans have been used to having.

This is completely unfair and egregious. I blame U.S. figure skating and Peacock! What a great way to grow the sport, idiots! Why can't you just be transparent, accountable, open and honest with fans?? That's all it takes. Nope, you ignore the needs of fans and take us for granted.

Not everyone can watch live, but if they had at least given us notice well in advance, I would have been prepared. I wouldn't like it, but I could have rearranged my schedule with foreknowledge. At this juncture, I'm looking to cancel or downgrade. Peacock got a lot of money from me for years and especially this year with no Olympic fs replays, and no sp pairs replay for Worlds. And now this rotten surprise at the start of the season. It sucks!

We all realize they are doing this b/c of that opportunistic suit. So why didn't they keep fans informed at the very least about why they took events down, and that there would be no archived replays this season? Be transparent and show fans some d#!n respect. They weren't being honest by keeping this quiet when they knew in plenty of time to give us a heads-up very early on. Forewarned is forearmed.
I don’t think a lot of people watch figure skating on Peacock. I don’t think the discount had anything to do with skating.

I do agree USFS should have told us. It looks like the people at USFS who used to communicate with us (Brent, etc) are gone.

here's my question, why can't NBC do with figure skating as they did with gymnastics?

USAG used to put full NBCSN broadcasts up on their youtube channel free for viewing. they are still there. they didn't do this last year, but they had their own videos of each gymnast on each event filmed by someone else and put up for viewing on their youtube, for free.

gymnastics, especially on the national level is no more popular than figure skating. casual sports viewers don't watch gymnastics or figure skating nationals unless MAYBE its the olympic season. not to mention there are full NBC broadcasts still up on youtube of 2022 nationals posted by other accounts. why was this possible for gymnastics but not skating? why can these broadcasts be left up but skating can't?
I’m not sure that’s true. I’ve been to figure skating Nationals and gymnastics nationals. Women’s gymnastics Nationals sell out. The poor men are another story. I bet almost everyone in the country can name a gymnast (Simone Biles). I bet almost no one can name a figure skater and if they can it is Nathan Chen.

Why they don’t post the comps is another matter. I realized yesterday that the Novice comps they do post have music.

Or worse Michelle Kwan who hasn't competed in over a decade

Didn't they have the Lombardia on Peacock last year?
I don't think so. Usually only US challengers and senior B's. The grand prix, 4CC, Europeans and Worlds.
But last year they had the US regionals , and not this year. Peacock is not our friend.

US Figure Skating has eliminated the regional championships from the competition structure. Peacock is not to blame for that.

Peacock could as easily provide video from the competitions that have replaced Regionals.

^^ Thanks for posting. 💖 Did you guys see in the comments section on this particular site (which apparently is Russian) where they dismissively said they won't provide the pairs coverage because "there's nothing to see." 😡 That's petty and blatant. I give Russian pairs their due, but they ARE NOT the be-all, end-all in pairs figure skating. Their teams don't always connect well emotionally, despite good technique and beautiful positions. Quite often their packaging and music selection leaves something to be desired. The U.S. has some excellent teams with personality and depth, Canada is rebuilding and Japan is trying to build with one good senior team and promising junior prospects. Plus, new developing partnerships abound from various countries. The Georgian teams especially have an opportunity to make noise. For the most part, the Georgian teams' heritage and coaches happen to be Russian. 🧐 It's uber petty to be so dismissive of pairs b/c over-scored Russian teams aren't there.

So yep, I hope some pairs vids of this event surface. U.S. figure skating should post vids on their site. Peacock and U.S. fed are absolute traitors to fans and to the sport. All the stupidity about event coverage streaming this season is doing no favors for anyone involved! If they actually cared, they'd find a better way to give fans reasonable access.

What a sad state of affairs. We have one skater who's first international event performance may be lost forever. The only replays of the U.S. International Classic we may ever have are dodgy Russian ones. Talk about irony with that one. Russia who is currently banned from competing in ISU events are where the replays came from. Who is most to blame here? Peacock/NBC who has decided that they are not going allow any replays because they here too lazy to get the rights for them. USFS who seems to think that what NBC is doing is just grand and seems to could care less because the person who is suppose to handle this issue decided this was fine week to go on vacation. I still think that at least writing the ISU may do some good at least on one front. They may have be able to try break down the extreme geo-blocks that bar people from watching replays from the ISU website in the United States.
The fact people are looking into VPN's is shameful. No body should have to go through this just to watch a skating event. I just hope that somebody can do something before the Grand Prix season starts.

I don't think the ISU decides on the geo-blocks, but the country being blocked. When USFS sells broadcast/streaming rights to NBC, NBC gets exclusive rights. Hence the geo-blocks.

Even though the CBC broadcasts and streams figure skating in Canada, the ISU streams are not blocked here. Either the CBC doesn't have exclusive rights or they choose not to enforce them.

This is incredibly frustrating and utterly baffling. USFS goes on and on about how no one cares about figure skating in the US, but it's nearly impossible to be exposed to. The casual viewer is never going to download a VPN so they can watch Worlds, let alone a senior B. I will, because I'm sorry, I love figure skating, but I work five jobs and have a baby. I can't clear my schedule every single week for skating. But I do want to watch as much as I can, when I get a chance. And I'll definitely be cancelling Peacock.

Totally ridiculous.

edit: Oops, just went online to cancel Peacock and realized I forgot to sign up this year (like I said, five jobs and a baby... things fall through the cracks right now lol). That's convenient! No need to cancel.
