The ISU typically streams the GP (and other) events on YouTube, but it's geoblocked in the US. However, it is accessible with a VPN, and the videos are kept up, so you can replay them whenever.

So, if you use the Opera browser, which country should you set it to for the ISU stream to work? Is there a list of countries where it works and you just pick one randomly? Or do certain countries always work and others might not?
I've never used the Opera browser, but I'm leaning toward it for figure skating.

I think there are like 5 countries. The Netherlands should work. Typically, it's restricted to countries without streaming rights, but it can depend.
Keep in mind that Opera isn't really that safe and your data is at risk. It's fine for skating, but I wouldn't use it as your default browser. I personally use Proton VPN, which is paid and based in Switzerland, but there are plenty of good options.
If you have a compatible VPN, these countries typically work for the ISU stream: Nigeria, Spain, Turkey (there are others, but I can't remember them off the top of my head)

The Olympic sports coverage on Peacock has been getting sloppy.
The diamond league coverage used to have dedicated streams for the field events, but no longer.
The alpine skiing World Cup events used to show every single run, but there were events last year that took the nbc feed, and when nbc went to a break, the peacock stream went dark during the commercial break. Terrible.
Now it looks like the figure skating coverage is live only.
Can’t stop laughing at the fact that US figure skating is so inept (and poor) that a figure skating fan in the USA (and the event participant) needs to go to a Russian site to watch replays, because the federation and its TV partners are too cheap to shell out money for music rights.
Amateurs running things will produce amateur results.

The upcoming section that's under the general sports category. They removed the skating category again.

There is a line of sports icons which did have (but doesn't now have) a figure skating boot. I swear it was there before the U. S. Challenger but now it is gone. Peacock doesn't usually put up info on upcoming events like the GPs until a few days before the event.
What I think is also very strange is that USFS/NBC/Peacock haven't even put out a list of events they are covering for the upcoming season. A month or so ago there was a press release that Peacock would be showing 80 hours of figure skating. Maybe I just missed the info but this whole thing just stinks IMO.

I agree with you on all of this except for the fact that NBC/Peacock are not amateurs. They aren't new to this. They know exactly what they are doing here. They just don't care enough, probably because they can make more money much easier with other sports. They know that we don't have a choice, so they can do whatever they want.
Just cancelled Peacock! They are not getting any of my hard earned cash. The USFSA is at fault too. No wonder this sport is going to s**t in this country! So depressing! Would like to know how VPN works though. If anybody has patience, plz help. I wanna watch figure skating!!!!!!!

Any device (laptop, phone, tablet, desktop, etc.) that is connected to the internet has an Internet Protocol or IP address. Your IP will change depending on your location. The ISU streams are blocked in the US, but a VPN will change your IP address to make it seem like you are in a different place, thus giving you access to different content (in this case the ISU YouTube stream). A VPN is also used for privacy, as your IP address is public, and therefore can be used by hackers.
When choosing a VPN, there are a couple of things to keep in mind (in no particular order)
1. Security - A reliable VPN company will not keep a log of or sell your data. Additionally, important to look at where a VPN company is based and what obligations they have. Internet privacy laws vary from country to country and a VPN company must comply with the laws of the country that they are based in. Free versions of many VPNs can be sketchy. The only free VPN I'd recommend right now is Proton VPN. Opera browser's VPN, while free and convenient is terrible for security, and I DO NOT recommend it if you care about your data. If you must use the Opera VPN, ONLY use it to watch skating.
2. Speed - A VPN will reduce your internet speed, and some will do so more than others. You don't want a VPN that is extremely slow, especially when it comes to livestreams.
3. Price - As I said, a good VPN costs money. Some more than others. You don't want to be paying too much for a VPN. Most of these VPNs have different deals, so you might be paying more after the first year or two (I'll explain more later)
4. Servers - Make sure that your VPN has the servers you need it to! The more countries that you can connect to, the better!
PLEASE KEEP IN MIND: IN MOST COUNTRIES, USING A VPN IS NOT ILLEGAL AS LONG AS YOU ARE NOT DOING ANYTHING ILLEGAL WHILE USING THE VPN. Just back from camping in the back yard of a Catholic Father in Stead NV, for 8 days and yes, the lightning got really close.
I dont understand all of what is happening. I can stream stuff on the web at many places including youtube and no one stops streaming. I believe an artist has a right to like compensation and ackowlegement in credits for the right to use their music. And to be asked to use it. I was told by the powers that be that skater chosen music that appeared to be owned by a music company was paid for to be used by the ISU/USFS. Jimmy Santee told me this. But yet we are allowed to watch in real time but not streaming now.
If an artist's music was not acknowledged/paid for, then it is not NBC's fault. They should not have been sued. The skaters and the USFS/ISU should have been for not having a digital OK from the artist. To stream. Lawyers go after who has the money of course. Lets sue Chevy and Budweiser for that drunk driving accident.
Now, NBC is scared.
ISU sells them the broadcast rights for say the GPs. And they broadcast them. But what about streaming???? Are they gonna poke the bear?
Not yet. Lawyers have seen to that.
On another matter related to this I finally got someone from USFS to talk to me. It is a he/him named

He was asking for my renewal money and provided a link that provided no on line way to renewal. No email of introduction from him...no news letter...no word about when I can buy 4CC tickets.
I think USFS needs to put out a letter of explaination. "We sold the rights to broadcast USFS events to NBC. We didnt put in a provision that they had to stream. " Or something like that.
As far as this band or what ever it is, Sarah Brightman, Celtic Woman, ad nauseum gave PBS the right to play their music/shows and you can probably still stream them on PBS passport. Those artists made millions in music sales due to the exposure. Why not allow the streaming of your material if it makes you richer? Still, mistakes were made in the particular case.
This all can be fixed very easily by the ISU. A skater gets digital permission from the artist to use their music for broadcast and streaming anywhere in the solar system and forwards it to the ISU. Box checked. Finito. Bing bada bing.
Then NBC wont have to be afraid anymore.

No arguments from me. Peacock chose the easy way out no doubt.
Where there’s a will, there’s a way. Peacock could have just uploaded replays with the offending music muted. They could have added their own audio track. Or found another solution. Not perfect but better than nothing.

I was reluctant to get a vpn at first too, but I took the leap and got rid of a lot of anxiety of missing skating. It sounds complicated, but it really simple to run. Minz is giving great advice also. It also adds an extra layer of security between you and whatever stream you are watching. Just my two cents.

They dont care....when I was in college in the 60s, my poli sci prof said that our govt reps would love to hear from us. Now, THEY dont care. AlGore said he had to spend 6 hours a day on the phone begging from major corporations for money to run TV ads. What the voters wanted was unimportant.
In THIS case, how many orgs bid what to have rights in the US to broadcast skating???? I have no idea what the contracts say about streaming. The only way they can get their money back is by ads and other revenue. The ISU got its money, right? The USFS got its money, right? Nothing scares corps more than lawsuits. Once a lawyer smells blood in the water and someone (artist and their lawyer) has a successful suit for whatever reason, dont think other corporate lawyers wont be watching and waiting for a slip up. The whole way music is bought and used by sport for event use, broadcast use and steaming use needs to be overhauled.
Meanwhile, we need Minz to reappear and help us out.
