Does anyone know if there are community education classes (online or in person--I live in western Ohio) that teach seniors how to navigate the world of VPNs? I'm still using Windows 7 but my nephew taught me how to use an advertisement blocker thingy after a few hours.

Maybe try udemy.com they have free and paid- for online courses on a lot of computer stuff. Or even youtube probably has some tutorials on the basics of using a VPN

If you wish, I can help you over Zoom if you wish, but first you will need to choose a VPN. I am planning on posting a short guide here on what VPNs to choose. It should be up very soon (today or tomorrow).

Okay, I downloaded Proton VPN, the free version, and set it to the Netherlands. It appears to work, as I did try to log into Netflix and got the Dutch version. But the ISU channel seems the same whether I have it turned on or off. I'm a little confused. Ughhh I hate having to be a tech wizard to just watch a sport.

Ooooh, thank you! That's a great test. Now I'm even more confused. I'm getting the video unavailable notice both with the VPN on and off, but Netflix has switched from the US to the Netherlands again.

edit: Oh wait, I restarted my computer and cleared my cache. It's working now, hooray!!!!

Any particular reason you are chosing not to use a VPN? I know nothing about them but at least the Operah browser one is free.

That one is not secure at all. I don't recommend it.

First of all, you really need to get rid of Windows 7. It is obsolete and no longer supported by Windows, so you won't get security updates. Also you will find fewer and fewer programs will work with it. Do you know how to download a program? Do you know how to install one? If not, can your nephew help, perhaps over the phone?

I used to do tech support, did it for 8.5 years. I can give pretty good directions, but I need to know where you are.

LOL...USFS apparently does not monitor their social media at all...I'm over on FB teaching people how to use a VPN and get the ISU feed and they really should slap my hands for it and possibly block me from posting on their feed, but they arent.

Guys I will be putting up the VPN guide today. It will probably be slightly modified from what I had originally planned but I really do want to help you guys out.

I just got back to school yesterday after a 5 day recovery from a concussion, so there’s obviously been some delays…

Chris I don’t know exactly what they’d do off the top of my head, but I’d highly recommend to not use Opera.
