Peacock this season

How are all you new vpn users enjoying your new freedom so far?
Loving my freedom (and flexibility) especially since I will be traveling the weekends of MK John Wilson (Great Britain) GP and NHK. Thank you very much for your help
(Next time we have a GS meet up (hopefully in Colorado Springs) I would like to buy you lunch or dinner :)

So I have not resubscribed to the Peacock premier tier to see if it offers replays. Anyone in the premier tier sure Peacock has no replays at all? Watched the NBC highlight show which was an incomplete total joke of a broadcast, like they want to force everyone into Peacock. I am apprehensive about signing up for a VPN because am afraid it will welcome my laptop to viruses or a Trojan Horse or malware. Is there a VPN that is super reliable and will it permit me to watch the CBC and/or BBC Sport? Anything but NBC that everyone is being held hostage to for the foreseeable future.

1. Peacock Premium does not have replays for figure skating.

2. A VPN is totally safe. In fact, using a VPN is even safer than not using a VPN. I promise you, as long as you use a reliable VPN, there will be no viruses, malware, or anything.

Here is part 1 of my VPN guide that explains how VPNs work

And here is part 2, which explains the best VPNs to use for skating

If you have any questions, feel free to ask me!

Good luck!

I subscribe to Premium Peacock, no ads. I think this is the most expensive option. (I cut the cord and I like Law & Order. :) )

NO replays. None, nada, zero, zilch. Skate America and Skate Canada are nowhere to be found. Search yields nothing. I was able to watch live in commentary free bliss, but the remaining comps will not be in my time zone and that is not an option.

Sorry to be the first-hand bearer of bad news.

I followed the advice of Minz (and moonvine) and downloaded and used Proton VPN, as described. I then viewed the ISU feed on YT, and it is a definite thumbs up! That includes replay capability as well.

So crazy. I signed in to Peacock as usual after a few months off specifically to watch figure skating and wasted time and $5 searching for “skate Canada” etc. i noticed by the sports section, I now do NOT see “Figure skating” as an option. It’s like they want to kill the remainder of any fans in US. i’m gonna ask for my 5$ back. Can someobe explain why it’s a legal problem if some music of a living band or composer is used in a skating routine and is available to replay on Peacock?

Well its just speculation that it has to do with the lawsuit filed last year due to poor management by NBC and team Knierim/Frazier. But theoretically i would assume that its more expensive for music rights to songs that will sit in a library on an app for accessibility at any time than the rights to play it once during a livestream

I rarely get to go to events, the hospital rarely lets me have a day off. Thanks for the thought. Glad you are enjoying the skating.

I read something on social media that it's to do with the ongoing lawsuit from the musicians who were featured in Knierim/Frazier's program last season. Copyright infringement naming Peacock as showing rebroadcasts
Peacock is doing the same with other sports though, like gymnastics and soccer. It's so frustrating! Some of us have to work and can't stay up till 3am or whatever to watch events on the other side of the world! Here's a soccer article complaining about Peacock not doing replays anymore: Peacock Pulls a Bait and Switch

I'm sad that it's happening to other sports as well although part of me feels like "oh good it's not just skating" because you start to wonder with the skimpy NBC coverage and how much things have declined since Ice Network was replaced by NBC Gold then Peacock if someone at NBC just doesn't like skating. But truly it is a shame they marginalized so many sports, especially since we're losing the Olympic Channel. I'm glad that people are calling them out on it. I suspect their subscriptions are dropping.

I just want to know what NBC thinks they are accomplishing by doing this? You think that the World Gymnastics Championships would get high enough ratings to be shown live at least on USA at the very least. I mean just a few weeks ago NBC showed the last night of the women's National Gymnastics Championship live on NBC., so you think that they would at least have same-day coverage of the event. It is comforting in someways that figure skating is not the only sport that is dealing with Peacock issues but it also really worries me because how is this going to effect the Olympic coverage in both 2024 and 2026. Both of these games are in Europe and having live coverage is not always going to be possible, at least a time where people are going to be awake and not working, so how NBC going to deal with this? With what I have seen from NBC in last few weeks I not reassured. I just want know what is NBC end game is. If NBC does not want to show Olympic sports then find a channel that does.

And what if the answer is that no one else wants it?

Dare I suggest that this might actually work in our favor, because if NBC no longer controls the US broadcasting rights, we would not be geoblocked and could watch at the ISU site?

The problem is that NBC has the broadcasting rights, but doesn’t want to use them to provide full coverage.

Imagine that. Us Americans wouldn't even be able to watch our own national championships! :palmf:

(Not directed at you by the way)

So I didn't want to get a VPN and cancelled Peacock and upgraded to a DVR. I figured I could deal with the live broadcast coverage. For Skate America, they only showed the Rhythm Dance for Ice Dancing and the ladies Free Skate. No short programs and no men or pairs anything. This past weekend for Skate Canada, they only showed the men's and women's long programs. No short programs. No ice dancing or pairs anything. I thought network tv would do the top 3 of each event both short and long. Nope.
