To return to the original topic of this thread (i.e. Zhenya's eligibility), this is what I uncovered today:

Hmm, I think this is a smart move, to make a comeback earlier this time, at least two years in advance imho, as he saw one year wasn't quite enough time to prepare programs for a skater of his magnitude.
He is needing an explosion! (quote taken from one of my favorite movies "The Cutting Edge").

^)
And I also read wherein Evgeni states that he actually feels good about the Vancouver loss because there's still a dream for him to pursue (

Most definitely, I agree, God has greater things ahead of him, whereas if he had won the gold again he most likely would have retired, or would have coasted to the next Olympiad.
This was a wake up call for him to really put in the work this time not only technically (which he did magnificently, but if he had done the 4/3/2 he would have won instead of the easier 4/3), but also in terms of choreography. In fact I think if he had a better LP he would have won hands down. I'm only stating this so he can see where he can
improve. Putting the Biellmann back in is an improvement (

But what I really want him to concentrate on (besides the technical aspect of course) is to bring forth a killer program that NO MAN can touch, in the vein of his past masterpieces (e.g. Once Upon A Time in America, The Godfather, Bolero, Tosca, Nijinsky, et al; too many to list).

Of course he would want a program that pays homage to his magnificent country ~ Russia ~ the land of art, culture, music, ballet, etc. Therefore,
Swan Lake would be my preference for him, as its storied history is as impressive as he is:

On that note, I found a youtube link that a fan put together of him skating to this piece as Prince Siegfried:

Also, in my imagination, this is Zhenya in Sochi in 2014:
