welcome to the boards, missysays!

I find it interesting that so many people have either forgotten or are counting out Gregory & Petukhov.... I find it hard to believe that they wouldn't make the podium!

I guess they aren't mentioning G/P because they haven't competing all year due to the injuries from Skate Canada. Hopefully they are fully recovered and will compete and make the podium. Very few people are mentioning I/B for the pairs podium as well.

Thanks for the welcome, Tonichelle.:)

I think that G/P are a very good team and at last year's nationals they were very deservedly in a solid second place. But this year, I feel that with their training woes, switching coaches, and injuries that they just don't have the leverage going into nationals the way they did last year. I hope to be proven wrong.

But if you look at their placing at Skate Canada even before their accident happened during the FD warm-up, they were in 5th place behind teams that either placed lower than them in previous international competitions or were new to seniors (Bobrova/Soloviev).

I hope that they have had time to recover though and will have strong competitive skates.

I'm really excited to see how "new to seniors" Samuelson and Bates stack up against the other teams. They have incredible body lines- even better than Belbin and Agosto. They could even give Davis and White a run for their money if D/W aren't on their game. But it's too early to say yet.

Yayyy- nationals is going to be so much fun to watch.

Don't count out the women with experience in this event......I think that Emily and Kimmie, along with Alissa (not sure about Bebe) - will draw on their years of competitive experience and give us a great show!

1. Kimmie
2. Emily
3. Ashley
4. Rachel
5. Alissa
6. Mirai
7. Caroline

I think that Caroline's pre-rotated jumps will do her in, and both she and Mirai do not have the same mature skating flare that the other women do.....but give them a couple of years to develop a real style and look out!

Well, ultimately this particularly ladies podium is just about impossible to predict. We are lucky to have so many talented young ladies, all of whom with supporters who believe their favorite can win gold (and they well can).

Your observation about Rachael versus Mirai at JGPF is well-taken. But it can also be argued the other way. If Rachael only beat Mirai by just under 5 points with 7 triples versus 4, including a 3-3, and ultimately losing to Mirai after a good SP (clean, but the 3/3 was called UR), then it seems like she would lose the LP to Mirai if Mirai just skated a little better and say landed 5 clean triples. Plus Mirai is a better spinner, so with the extra spin in the senior LP, Mirai has additional technical advantage over Rachael. I think aside from the jumps, Mirai outshines Rachael a bit in everything else (spins, spirals, footwork sequences, PCS including speed, polish, and choreography). There's no say, of course, that Rachael won't get her 3/3 ratified in the SP at National's, or that she won't improve the levels of her elements.

With these young skaters, who are really improving by leaps and bounds by the day, we'll just have to see how they fare when National's actually rolls around.

Predicting the podium this year is like a roll of the dice....hard to know what is going to happen....and even more difficult to anticipate how the judges are going to react.

Improvement over the long haul is really the key. Unless Kimmie reclaims her jumps, and some of the more seasoned senior ladies are able to put together two solid performances with a full compliment of triples, I fully expect this year to be one of transition.

Looking at the "newbies", as much as I appreciate Zhang's flexibility, her spins and spirals, her programs still lack speed and ice coverage of the more seasoned seniors, though Nagasu, who is about the same physical stature as Zhang, is quite capable of speed and covers the ice nicely. Zhang is very delicate on the ice though Tom Dickson's SP this year has opened a little window to demonstrate some intensity in her skating. Her jump technique has to improve in the next few years (and perhaps add a 3Sal to her LP) if she expects to rise to the top internationally.

We love Wagner's enthusiasm for her programs and she is also a consistent jumper, much like Flatt. A little more refinement and some softening around the edges, and Ashley could become one of the consistent elite US ladies.

With that said,Flatt and Nagasu remain.... looking at the judges details from the JGPF for Nagasu and Flatt, they were pretty even in the technical base value for their SP with Flatt.at 30.20 and Nagasu at 30.10. Each skater had only one overall negative GOE in their SP (Flatt's was the 3lz-3t combo; Nagasu's was the flying sit spin). LP base value TES for Flatt was 59.86 and and 50.27 for Nagasu.

Flatt has demonstrated since 2007 Natls that she is not afraid to go for the more technically difficult programs. Her summer competitions and JGP programs this year have been very consistent in her ability to land the jumps (without weighing too heavily the tech panel calls at the JGP in Germany). She still has room to develop the spins and spirals, I would suspect she will continue to work on those aspects of her skating. Flatt's musicality is also quite refreshing, as she obviously relates to the music, esp the programs that Lori Nichol has choregraphed (SP in 2007 and LP in 2008).

Nagasu has struggled a bit with the consistency of her jumps, more so in her LP. But her spins, flexibility and spirals are delightful. And her youthful exuberance is delightful as well( which I prefer over Zhang). It will be interesting to watch her mature over the next several years in the senior ranks.

IMHO, these are the two to watch over the next few years. :)

Ladies event will be most daring to see what the USFS will consider as its Worlds Team. Other than that will Kimmie win over Caroline and will Emile win over Ashley.

Only the bronze medal for the Men will be of any interest. Of course the winner is very important for the two stars. However, always fun to hope for Rohene who could be the winner. I don't have much hope for any of them in worlds.

With the 3 top teams absent all season, and McL/Bru too young, the Team will not do well at Worlds, but still worth looking at to see if we can say improvements all around.

Absolutely no question about B&A as the US most possible and only medal at Worlds. Yet, G/P should be ok injury wise and skate well, and how much improved are D/W and will S/B be a factor in the final scores.

I would have thought Evan or Johnny would have a chance to podium? I agree with the B/A medal..................also, it is possible a lady will be on the podium too?

I'm planning on attending nationals this year and for the first time ever, I'm really not all that interested in the Sr. Ladies :disapp: I have an extra ticket to the SP and both LP's and I've actually considered selling both of them!!!! I suppose I was spoiled by the Kwan, Lipinski, Cohen years. Ice dance is really what I want to see. Having said that...here are my predictions.

Dance:
1. Belbin and Agusto
2. Davis and White
3. Gregory and Petukov - I think they may give Davis/White a run....I'm not sure if missing the GP this year will result in less training and thus a less polished Nationals or if they will have had extra training time and blow Davis/White away
4. Samulson and Bates

Worlds - B/A, D/W, G/P
Pairs:
I have NO idea. I hope Nam and Lefty do well.

Men:
1. Weir
2. Lysecak - though this will be close one.
3.. Who is around? I miss Savoie and Janke

Worlds - Weir, Lysecak and whomever comes in 3rd.

Ladies:
1. Meissner
2. Zhang
3. Wagner
4. between Flatt/Hughes/Liang/Czney. (Flatt has done great in the JGP. Hughes seems to pull it out at Nationals. Liang and Czney have such artistry and style it helps when the jumps go AWOL)
8. Nagasu

4C's will between depend upon who takes that 4th spot at nats...so between Flatt/Hughes/Liang/Czney - though for some reason, I could see Hughes declining and perhaps sending either Zhang or Nagasu (not sure what the age restriction is for 4C's)

Sr. Worlds -
Meisnner, Wagner and race between Hughes/Liang/Czney. (I'm assuming Flatt is not age eligible. If she is, add her to the mix)

Jr. Words:
Zhang, Flatt, Nagasu

IMO - Sr. and Jr. Wolds and 4C's will be a makeup of the top 8 skaters and will largely depend on who is age-eligible for what.

4Cs is a senior ISU championship, so the age restrictions are the same as for Worlds (and Euros). So no Zhang or Nagasu this year, nor Flatt.

For the Men, there is Daisuke, Joubert, Lambiel, Verner, v.d. Perren, Buttle, Chan, Voronovd. Some of them are going to hit better Personal Bests and that reduces the chances of Weir and Lysacek. It doesn't rule them out but it does make them two more for the pack of v. good skaters.

I have to look closely at Kimmie during Nats.
