I haven't seen all seasons, especially the last ones, but I like PR USA.
It has rhythm, there are good ideas, it's entertaining and there are many good&talented people among the competitors.

She might be bored with this season. I'm finding it pretty lackluster so far, both in terms of personalities and designs. But YMMV of course.
 
I don't get Sandhya's work either. However, I guess it works within the parameters of the challenge, which I think we sometimes forget as viewers. I tend to think about what I like vs what actually fulfills the judging criteria. What Sandhya designed was 'futuristic' and it would stand out on a magazine cover as compared to some of the other favorites.

I did like the other top 2 outfits...

I do think Angela is a good designer. As others have mentioned, not everyone can deal with the pressure of the challenges. 'If' she had more time, her construction probably would've been better'. Also, her color palette consisted of neutrals and pastels and the simple lines make her a promising ready-to-wear designer IMHO, but not a red carpet/runway 'wow' designer. I think if she had a couple of more years experience, she would've performed better.
 
Spoiler alert for episode 4! Avert your eyes! I agreed with the bottom and top two placements for once this season. Even though the one guy's look was worse imo (I have forgotten his name, sorries :p), Hernan's complaining about the fabric he had and the poor choice of vinyl and determination to use it despite Tim's critiques made me want him to go. Likewise with the top two, I thought Kini's was better, but because of Amanda's difficult suit she had to work with I thought she deserved to win. And what's this about a duo elimination next episode? :eek:
 
One thing that got me about the episode was the number of designers who felt that Sandhya had given him or her the worst suit on purpose. Where were their eyes? Just about all those suits were hideous, and she took the most garish one for herself.

I felt that Kini's look was the most gorgeous, too, but I understand the winning choice. The one who was sent home fully deserved it this week.

Agree re: top two and the reasons for choosing the win. Lordy, that fabric was a nightmare. I liked Kini's design a lot although you'd have to have almost no hips to wear it. :cry: Also thought Fade's was pretty cool w/ the use of different plaids. Of the bottom two, I figured the loser was done as soon as someone (Heidi?) said something like "V for v***na." And yes, the loser's constant complaining was really obnoxious.

My feeling was that Sandhya liked the bright colors in that suit and chose it for that reason. I honestly thought that even though the "losing" suit was ugly, some of the others were far worse. The color could have been used to create something elegant, IMO. Instead of rising to the challenge, the loser just sulked -- when you're in a place like that, the creative juices don't have a chance to flow. The loser self-destructed because of his/her childish attitude.
 
The first thing I kept thinking as I watched was, In what god-forsaken universe is vinyl--clear, brown or otherwise--considered a high-end fashion material of choice????? And, in the case of Hernan, if Heidi--Heidi! of all people--is calling you tacky, then you might as well run to that workroom even before Tim tells you to "clean up your space." Super Va-jayjay indeed!

Maybe it's me, but this is turning out to be such a very strange season. Nobody is showing consistent work. It's all been so hit or miss. Look at someone like Kristine. Last week, a beautiful dress, well-constructed and clean and elegant. This week, polyvelour jodphurs with organza leg extensions. And I think she's been one of the better designers. Ouch!

And the judging defies description. Grandma's hippy dippy 70s couch for the win? Fade's really beautiful dress not even worth a mention? Heidi practically shooting daggers at Sean when he tried to defend his look as intentional and not just sloppy sewing. Again, it is probably the editing, but I'm waiting for one of the judges to start taking "Cut or Be Cut" literally before the end of the season. Gotta keep those ratings up up up...

I give Sandhya props for her well-aimed gesture at Hernan. I might have been tempted to stuff that hideous poop-brown vinyl into his mouth. And then sew it shut.

I thought the best look this whole episode was Tim's. I'm in love with that blue windowpane suit.

Well, I guess cognitive psych professors could show this episode to their classes to illustrate "the power of positive thinking."

Well, you can watch it online, right? :) Per usual, there were several great dresses and a few real stinkers. Two that I thought were exceptional didn't make the top 3, while one of the top 3 seemed just meh to me. Thankfully, it didn't win. I don't want to spoil, so won't say anything else yet.

Man there is a lot of fringe this season.
I'm surprised Alexander keeps being named the fan favorite. I don't feel strongly for him either way.
I can't believe Mitchell was calling Sandhya selfish for using that money on herself! They were all told they could ask other designers for their unused money, they all had equal opportunity to do so. She took the initiative and benefited from it.
Was it Amanda's you didn't think should've been in the top, skatedreamer? I'm glad Shawn won. The bottom three were... all so rough.
It was nice to see an Olympic champion on the panel.
Next week.. Dita Von Teese :love:
 
I enjoyed the episode for the most part, but some of the dresses were awful, and I really felt sorry for the designers. I agree that I liked the winner very much.
 
Yes, but instead of aging her I think it more made her look her actual age. Usually she looks like she could pass for 10 years younger than she is :p

Yes, that's a good point. The other day I was watching The Talk (rerun) and the guest was Florence Henderson who was celebrating her 80th birthday. She looked younger than the kids from the show. I am not sure how I feel about that

Anyone else think that Kini should've won the challenge? While Sean conceived the top, he didn't execute it and we'll never know if he would've made it as well as Kini. Also, what finished the pants was Tim's cumberbund suggestion.

I agree that Kini should have won and I was surprised that Sean took the glory. I think I would feel better about Sean if he told the judges that Kini sewed the top and if Sean still won...as you say Heyang, it was Sean's design.
