I agree with you. There are factions who believe each opinion. I've found the New YOrk TImes' coverage of it to be balanced.

I do not think he particularly favour Italians athletes one way or the other. You can argue Kostner got gifted several times. My impression is that he cares more about money and power. He can kiss Putin's *** today but can switch allegiance to Americans overnight if they can keep him in power.

Chanada probably payed a lot for Chan's bogus victories though (although Sotnikova managed to top the worst of all of Chan's wins which I thought it would take atleatst 5 years to see). I guess his deserved Olympics loss is due to them running out of money, or since Russia was paying way bigger money for all the other results they no longer had interest in Chanada's comparatively paltry cheque.

Overscoring doesn't help a skater either. Today Chan is vilified (unfairly, he doesn't give himself his scores) and still isn't an Olympic Champion even after all his controversial wins. Sotnikova is an Olympic Champion but her image in the sport is likely to be even more hollow and negative than Chan's unless she does something stupendous to justify her farcial Olympic Gold which is overshadowing the talk of the final 4-5 days of the Games. Had she won bronze or even silver (with one of Kim or kostner bronze, despite that she certainly didn't deserve silver either) she would be lauded for a great achievement, and the next budding star of the sport. Had Chan been scored fairly he would not have kept an ice dance coach, would not have all his wins painted with the inflation brush, and would probably be Olympic Champion with a real technical coach today rather than explaining all her bogus wins of years past and still carring on the Canadian record of 0 Olympic mens titles.

I agree. Over scoring and unfairness have bothered me the most. Yu na also got over scored in some events in the past although you could argue they did not impact the final placements. Kostner's scores in the past drove me crazy. Most American, Russian and Canadians skaters get an automatic boost to their scores relative to skaters from less developed countries. I used to follow FS fervently but have only taken some occasional peek for the past year. I am switching to other real sports like tennis and feel good. I finally realized FS is not a real sport. It is just a bunch of East European/Russian judges fighting their imaginary war to control the world. Those tainted medals are pretty much worthless. Feel really bad about those parents putting their kids through this. There is no fairness which leads into dwindling money into FS. Once Korea is out, only Japan has some money for FS. North Americans have long lost interest. China has never been into it. I do not even believe Russians are much into it. It is simply a rare thing they can feel good about by buying medals. Their nationals attracted very few people. Where is ISUZU going to find the money? Maybe those who support the corruption on this board can make some donations? It will likely become a very obscure show that has to rely on YouTube streaming in the future.

That's also incorrect. If anything the U.S. media are the first got online to a**-kissing. (see: NBC) It's media outside the U.S. (except for Russian's, of course0 that question the event most.

I was chatting online with a Japanese friend of mine and apparently the Japanese media and fans mostly think the same.

When you have Mao fans and Chinese defending a South Korean skater something must have went wrong or h*ll must have frozen over.

Her jumps are objectively considered one of the best. They have always been considered the top level, or did you follow figure skating before? Let's wait and see if Adelina or Julia does half of what Caro is capable with her jumps when they get to 27 before you start making fun of a five time European champion.
