Recalling Falls

That awful moment when the btoadcast announcer says"oh God" during your performance.

That is an interesting observation though about the recovery. It was a very spider like effort to return to an upright position. Very few people could use their legs in such a way.

Anyway...so good to see to see his Choreography is getting legs of its own and giving him a chance to continue in the sport he so clearly loves.

I am in just in awe of who ever thought Austin Powers was a good idea for a program. :laugh2:

I think it's a fabulous idea for a program! Although not for Majorov - more for like Ge or Balde or Leonova or someone who's more of a charisma skater. Those were quite the falls, baby...

At least it wasn't yet another warhorse program and actually something fun that stands out.

Navka/Kostomarov had an Austin Powers program, so did Maxim Kovtun as a junior. I'm sure there have been others too.

I haven't read the entire thread but if it hasn't been mentioned yet. Maria Butyrskaya's fall during the final footwork section of her 1998 Worlds LP was epic! Even she laughed at herself. I love her so much......

I found a clip on youtube but I can't seem to transfer the link. It's actually kind of funny if someone can post it I'd really appreciate it. Thanks in advance

I almost want to give it positive GOE!

Another pairs fall from the GP that season, Sui/Han's aborted lift at NHK: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vM9B7uaJvrc&t=4m40s Really sad in the overall context (the final nail in the coffin for their Olympic chances), but taken on its own, it is a somewhat funny fall. Topped off by her Fusar-Poli glare at the end. (Hey, sometimes we have to laugh about these things, because the alternative is crying all the time).

Who knew Sui was such a diva??

Definitely solidifies that team as my favorite for next season.

What about this one of Sasha Cohen's? (sorry if it's already posted, didn't have time to read through the whole thread.)

This looks like a different event than the one I remember but maybe that's just the lighting. I remember it was called Marshalls and one the other video there was a long debate about whether or not it was a fall or deliberate and it was decided that since she didn't do that ending at any other event it was a fall. But she covered it up well.

Hmm, you may be right that it would work better with someone else who would really 'go for it' and sell the cheesy campiness of it. To me, Majarov just looked uncomfortably silly in the choreo.

No one has mentioned Kostner's fall right at the end of her Bolero? (2013 Worlds) I almost thought that fall had been scripted. Part of it was Scott Hamilton's fault. He somehow knew she would fall there and told as much to the viewers, and I thought it was part of the program..

Oh, I think this one hasn't been mentioned and it's one of a kind

The slow motion at 4:29.
Oh that is hilarious. Actually her coach's reaction as well the commentator's quips are more illuminating. lol.

"What can he say? He must have seen her do it thousand times." (commentator)

Here is the link to Scott Hamilton's creepy omen towards the end of Kostner's skate in 2013. He could not contain his excitement as his prediction came true.

Forgive me if someone has already posted this (great thread by the way!) but I thought of Alexander Majorov's TWO blow outs in his short program to "Austin Powers" in the 2012 World Championships.

Check this out....make sure you see the 2nd fall, it's even better than the 1st!

"Bla bla bla and that wasn't good and *Fall* AND THAT'S EVEN WORSE!" :laugh2:

That commentator made the video.

One of my favorite falls is Agnes Gosselin at the Calgary Olympics. She was the worst skater in the competition, and managed to clonk herself in the head during her straight line step sequence and promptly fell to the ice. I forget the exact words, but Dick Button obliterated her, saying she was a terrible skater, pedestrian choreography and overall an unpleasant experience for all involved.... lol
