Rika Hongo

So excited to see Rika! I know it's been discussed that she could have trouble reaching the GPF, but regardless of her competition, I still expect her to have her usual fabulous skates :hap93:

Best of luck to Rika at this competition! I'm enjoying her programs this season :cheer:

Chinese on-site practice reports have the following for Rika (seems to be with her FS):
3Ffall 3Stano 3Lz3T 2A3T2Ttano 3S2T 3Lz
there were a couple of 3F-3T, but also fell on some 3F
Good luck Rika!!

Rika is currently SECOND after the SP at Cup of China! Get on the podium! :cheer:

I liked the costume, the arms, the expression, the freedom, the attack, the skating, the spins, the everything!
She has proved since her surprising Rostelecom win last year that she belongs to the top. Bravo Rika! :cheer2:

RIKA! 2nd place going into the FS! Love her programs, costumes... and her performances and attitude so far this season!

Looks like she's going for a repeat of last year, with new PB's at every competition! (She set a new personal best SP at Finlandia last month... and another new one today)

Hoping she can keep this momentum going, do a clean skate tomorrow, reach or surpass of her goal of 190 points total, and get on the podium!

Her package and costume this season, even the choreography.....so good. :hap93:

I was just looking at Rika's chances of getting into the GPF this year again and realizing she has a tough line up ahead. She will be competing against Mao, Anna P. and Elena R at CoC, while at Rostelecom she is against Polina, Elena R. again, Adelina and Evgenia. Even after Skate America she still has my two fave ladies programs this season. Hope she makes it there!

Quoting you again, firal, because if Rika can keep herself in second for tomorrow, then get 3rd at CoR, she could make it to the GPF once again! :hap36:

Anything could happen tomorrow, or at CoR... but yes, as of right now, Radionova and Pogorilaya have left the door wide open for Rika... (mixed feeling about that cos I love all three)

Can she be the GPF "Cinderella" girl again?! I would love that!

By the way, I think Rika's success is largely the result of her hard work, confident attitude, consistent results, and passionately-delivered performances. But I think Akiko deserves some of the credit too - her posture is greatly improved these days, and continues to improve... same for how well-defined, controlled and expressive her movements are becoming... and Akiko's choreography is tailor-made for Rika's long limbs, and dynamic style.

I totally agree with all of this! I am really cheering for Rika tomorrow! She is truly improving all the time, it is genuinely inspirational to see!

Yes, that would be awesome! Of course we've only seen one performance so far and you know Elena will come out fighting but consistency has always been Rika's best friend so I hope that will be the case again! In the Japanese TV show she said that even though she only beat her PB by a little bit, it has given her confidence that she can do it!

No one can deny Akiko's credit here. Happy to see Akiko tweeted after the SP that she was nervous and happy at the same time, very different emotion than what she had experienced as a skater herself and she is thankful she gets to experience this new emotion. :clapper:

Excellent job Rika! Her Riverdance program is actually becoming one of my favorites of all time

She also did win the LP!

R I I I I I I I I I I I I K A A A A A A A A A A A A ! :-D

Fantastic performance, what a star! She sold the heck out of that program!
And she smashed her personal best FS and Total scores!!! 195.76!

She actually won the Free skate over Mao and everyone else, and very nearly took the gold medal!

* HAPPY DANCE *
