75% of my ex-boyfriends are tech geeks (which is ironic considering I'm a technologically backwards dinosaur ), and one of them is a pianist, so it's probably not a coincidence that Roman is one of my biggest celebrity crushes.

topic: Since I spend a lot of time on this thread, I thought I should let you all know that I nearly died on Friday night (and no, I'm not exaggerating in the slightest). The medical staff at the hospital saved my life by giving me three blood transfusions plus an IV drug that slowed down bleeding. A doctor has prescribed me medication that should stabilize my condition and (hopefully) prevent another life-threatening episode. I'm very weak (naturally), but I'm so grateful that I'm still alive, and that I can continue to do "mundane" things like discuss Roman's skating career you guys. Honestly, I'm overwhelmed with joy that my life almost seems normal today, when just a few nights ago, it was a struggle for me to stay conscious with such massive blood loss, and not knowing if I'll survive to see the next morning. I'm resting and recovering now.

Some of you may find this darkly amusing; while I hovered between life and death, after I had pondered about my family, friends, the meaning of life and all that profound stuff, my mind wandered to more trivial issues, and one of them was, "But who will take care of Roman's Fan Fest when I'm gone?!" I may have been a bit delirious at this point.

Wow, I'm so glad you're ok! Hope that medication does the trick and you are starting to feel better x

This has never been officially confirmed, but rumour has it that Roman had suffered from an injury during the summer that he still hasn't fully recovered from, and it's preventing him from practicing the flip or the Lutz.

vintagefigureskater, I was wondering what happened to you; I was getting worried that even you were becoming bored with my posts. I'm sorry to hear that your relative is ill, and I hope that s/he will recover soon. I can't wait to see your snapshots, but only when you're ready to upload them, of course.

While I'm not out of the woods when it comes to my health issue (I have to wait several months for a procedure that I need---apparently a life-threatening incident isn't enough to make me a priority :disapp: ), I'm at least doing better now than last month.

Sadly, she passed away late last week.

Oh gosh, I'm so, so, so sorry for your loss. You have my heartfelt condolences. It must be so difficult to spend Christmas without your relative for the first time.

As therapy I'm going to start sorting through my gadzillion photos of Roman from SCI. I'm off to Canadians in a few weeks, so I'd better get on them now because there are going to be a whole lot more soon!

I sincerely hope this form of therapy helps you. Maybe seeing some live skating (and Roman) will cheer you up a little bit.

Oh no, so sorry to hear this. This is the biggest issue facing the healthcare system in our country right now. Emergencies are handled well, but there are long waitlists for pretty much everything else. I had to have urgent brain surgery a couple of years ago, and the only reason I got it within a week was because my neurosurgeon had just moved to my city and didn't have many patients yet. All you can do is hang in there and make sure you're on the surgeon's cancellation list. Fingers crossed for you!

Aww, thank you for your kind words. Yes, seeing all my pretty pictures of Roman was helpful. Only problem now is, my mum was a huge Stephen Gogolev fan, and I might have to disrespect Roman and throw some support and cheers Stephen's way in her honour.

I did mention in the Canadian thread that the emergency hospital staff did a marvelous job saving my life, but the waiting times for medical procedures are indeed a form of torture. Phew, I'm relieved that you received the brain surgery that you required a lot earlier than you normally would've. You're very lucky.

I don't really think it's a "betrayal" to root for other skaters, as long as your cheers for Roman are the loudest! (That's what I did at SCI.)

It's kind of depressing to think that if he had fully rotated and landed the 4T cleanly, he would've won the Short Program because he's 6.67 points behind the leader, and the base value of the 4T is 9.5 points. Oh well, there's no point in dwelling on what could've been... I sincerely hope the skating gods will be kind to him later today.

Well. Everything happens for a reason, or so I try hard to believe. Maybe this is the universe's way of telling Roman he's just not ready to tackle such difficult programs. I know he's tired of "trying to spin" his way to the top, and I understand the reasoning in giving him programs that he can grow into. But boy oh boy, it sure cost him dearly tonight.

Since he's lost his spot on the National team and the funding that goes along with it, I imagine he and his parents are going to have to put a lot of thought into whether or not he's going to continue skating. If he does, hopefully he'll be more open to scaling back the difficulty and focus more on skating clean programs until his consistency on the 3 axel and quad toe is better. And it IS getting better. He landed a solid quad toe and 3 axel in the FP warm up. He just needs to be patient and understand that you can't rush development. It will happen if he just keeps putting in the work.

What makes me crazy is that he could have been in first after the short program using the same jump layout as Stephen Gogolev because he gets such great scores on his spins (+5 GOE's!) and level 4's on his footwork. Sigh.

I just hope that if he does decide to keep skating, Skate Canada will continue to be patient and supportive with him. He's worth it!!!! :yes:

Anyway, congrats to all the other guys in the final flight!! It was an amazing night of skating.
