It's very difficult to hear Mark Hanretty's commentary in the official ISU individual video of Roman's Rostelecom Cup free skate, but you can hear his voice clearly in this video.

Roman is in 4th with 77.17 points after the short program at Nationals yesterday. His 4s and 3a went well but then he was only able to do a 2lz so that cost him a lot of points, but the free is coming up soon so he has the opportunity to make it up. I'm sure siberia82 will get us a much better quality video of his short program but in the mean time I was able to find this on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ySaZ8U2uy6o :)
 
Nationals isn't over yet but I just had to come and say I'm so so proud of Roman!! His only mistake in the free was the same two footed double lutz he did in the short program, maybe he was thinking about it and got distracted? But otherwise he did incredible and got a lot of well deserved cheers from the volunteers and other skaters in the arena (Michael Marinaro was really loud!!). I'm just so proud of how far he's come!! He's always been a beautiful skater and now he's learning how to skate under pressure, his triple axel has improved so much in the past few years, I'm just so glad to see it all come together!! He has a total score of 247.60, we've still got a few skaters still to come so I'll update once it's over.

Update: He won silver behind Keegan Messing!! His main competitor for that second Olympic spot is Nam who finished in 6th so while we won't get official confirmation just yet I think it's safe to say Roman is going to the Olympics!! Crying happy tears!! I love all the Canadian men but Roman has been my favourite for years and I've wanted this for him so bad!!

SQUEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!! I'm so overjoyed that Roman came back strong in the free skate and won the silver medal!!!!!! 🥈:jump: I know it's not official until Skate Canada announces the Olympic team, but he'll very likely be an Olympian!!!!!! Yet another wish I have for him will (most probably) come true!

'“Next time…” I posted this photo 4 years ago (01/14/2018). Long story short, I had my mind set on a dream, and today that dream became a reality. I’m going to the Olympic Games!

Taking this photo was a starting point of an insane journey. Growing up, my initial goal was to qualify for the 2018 Olympic Games as I knew it was my first games where I would be age eligible. Admittedly, I wasn’t yet cut out for the task. So I decided to take a cliché photo facing the Olympic torch that was used in Vancouver 2010 to signify the start of a new Olympic journey. Ultimately I was hoping for a better shot at it “Next time…”

As you well know, the 4 years following proved to be some of the craziest years of all time. I’m just super proud of what myself and my team were able to accomplish despite the troubling circumstances. 💪 This was definitely a huge effort with many people involved. I would like to extend a massive thank you to everyone who helped me get to where I am. You know exactly who you are. 😜❤️'

Thank you for all the videos and article, Siberia82! A little late to post, but I am thrilled by how Roman skated and his making the Oly team!:jump:Perfect timing to put out his best free skate of the season! I have to be honest though, after his short, I was sweating bullets during his entire performance right up to his final pose :LOL:

I was planning to download CBC TV's Road to the Olympic Games broadcasts of Nationals (they include Kurt Browning as the commentator) from the CBC.ca website, but I've been searching for nearly a week, and I can't find the archived livestreams anywhere. :scratch2: I had to beg :bow: an acquaintance to convert their PVRs into video files, and so far they provided me with the Men Short Program. (CBC Montreal DIDN'T air this segment :mad: , so I didn't even know there were any SPs that made it to the television broadcast until I received the vids!)


Kurt talks about Roman, and the latter is also included in the warm-up.

You're welcome! I totally understand your stress -- I was so nervous during Roman's free skate that I was still shaking throughout the next competitor's performance! :p

My acquaintance has so far given me the first half of the Men Long Program, and luckily for us, Roman was the second skater shown in the broadcast.


I chuckled when Kurt said that Roman was "chasing points" while skating to "Chasing Cars". :laugh:
