Does anyone know if Elena Sokolova is rostered to take part or has she retired just like Piseev had said?

Thanks

I believe the Men's podium will allow 3 skaters to Euros. If so which are the favorites to be on the podium?

Joe

Russian men have 2 spots fro Euro's, due to a 5th, 16th and 18th place finish at this year's euro's, totalling = 39 points

The Russian men are pretty inconsistent, so the ones who do well at Nationals might not do as well at Euros. In any case, Piseev will probably change his mind 10 times between Nationals and Euros, and we won't know who's actually going to Euros until the event starts.

Thanks, russell.

I was just looking over the GP series results, and of the Russian male single skaters, it looks like the one who got the best placement during the series was Sergei Voronov. He placed second at TEB in the final placements, with a score of 208.91. I believe he was only entered in that one event, so of course he was not in the final.

At SA, Lutai came in 7th with 180.88. At CoC, Uspenski came in 5th with 179.94. At CoR, Griazev came in 3rd with 206.13, and Uspenski was 7th with 189.17; Lutai was 9th with 185.35. At NHK, Dobrin was 5th with 186.53, while Griazev was 7th with 182.83.

I think that covers the Russian male single skaters in the GP series; there was no Russian in that category at SC.

Voronov, barely out of the juniors, has both the highest placement attained in the series, and also the highest score achieved, of all the Russian Men. So....if he does well at Nationals also, I expect Voronov to be sent to Euro's.

Since Dobrin is working with Mishin now, I expect him to be showing technical consistency improvement by Nationals, and I think it likely he could be the other Russian male single skater sent to Euro's.

Pissiev has never hide the fact that the results of Nationals does not mean you get selected to Euros/Worlds, he choses it based on the GP series, Regional competitions, Test Skates, talk with the coaches, etc etc etc and then picks whoever he wants.
On the men Voronov seems the best choice. While Lutai is good on the tech side and I think he finished 5th at the last Euros, I think if Griazev performs well at Nationals, Pissiev would pick him. If not, he probably will pick Lutai. Dobrin seems more complete than Lutai but he has not had a good season so far.

If she retired, it was definately against her wishes. In her last interview, Elena claimed that she would become European Champion this year. But knowing the relatinship between her and Piseev, I doubt that he would let her compete. This would be a very dumb decision given the state of Russian Ladies at the moment. If none of the Russians would finish in the top 10, meaning that they would only be able to send one skater in 2009.

I think sokolova has retird as I can't find sokolova in the starting line up and ladies section looks like a joke. all 4 categories look unusually weak (even weaker than last year) .

I was expecting bit of a contest in ice dancing, but with no oxana /maxim the field looks very weak. There is no place even for Maria Monko/illia Takachenko or for Kristina Gorshkova/vitali Butikov junior gpf medallist.

Are Monko/Tkachenko and Gorshkova/Butikov competing at Senior Nationals, or just Juniors?

I read an article somewhere which stated that Sokolova has retired. I'll have to try to find it.
Doesn't look good for the Russian ladies - the only event I could find for Ksenia Doronina was Coupe de Nice, where she finished 7th with 103.18. Ouch. Katarina Gerboldt took the bronze at Golden Spin with 132.33, and Nina Petushkova had the highest score (138.79) with her 6th place finish at CoR. Martinova had the busiest season, but didn't finish higher than 8th at Finlandia with 132.58.

....okay, is anyone able to get access to the channel on the Daum player? :banging:
EDIT: Updating worked, never mind
