Sasha to make decision in spring.

Why in the world would she WANT to some back? SHe has fun and gets paid well to do shows and commercials and pursue acting. Why go back to the rigors risk and cost of competitive skating when you already have the national championship, world and Olympic medals

It really doesn't even merit discussion. There is no way she's coming back. I enjoy her skating, but it's pretty one dimensional and she doesn't have the drive and committment it would take to work hard enough to come back.

I think she's in a perfect place for her right now.

Good to see grounded responses pouring out of the posting of this article. I agree with most of the points presented in these replies. I think she will come to the realization that she really has it good and has nothing to lose. If she attempts to come back she could have everything to lose so she better have an awesome reason for such a move. Never struck me as one who truly loved the thrill of competing. And like the poster above said, I don't think the drive and determination will be quite there.

She has it really, really good right now as the star of the top US skating tour. Why go back to something where you will likely be overshadowed by the top competitors at the moment?

Sasha will surprise us all, while Mao and others are falling all over themselves trying to do triple-triple this and triple-triple that, succumbing to the pressure of needing to be the best Sasha will return and skate the best she ever has and kick a little a** in the process. Leaving all the haters and naysayers stunned speechless.

Seriously though, I think her decision has been made. I think she's done with eligible skating, but that she's waiting to announce for professional reasons and maybe because a part of her still really wants to return, and thus she's not ready to officially let go.

I think she will be at the Vancouver Olympics--as an on-air commentator. The girl is very photogenic and one of the most recognizable american female athletes. She would be used to interview other skaters ,demonstrate skating skills, and fluff Olympic activities.

Great article and comments by Scott. I think Sasha should do whatever she wants to...it's her life.

Sorry to track away from the topic but I don't get the rush to put Kwan behind a booth. Is it because her fans just can't take it any more?

Hersh is included in this- I just don't think that's the solution to re-popularizing skating. The casual fan ISN'T going to tune into FS coverage so they can hear her voice while Meissner's skating. She'd be better off as a spokesperson or even doing clinics. you know how many kids would just die to learn from her?? Like I said on FSU when you're behind a TV booth you aren't utilizing your celebrity as much as if you are actively promoting your sport. jmho.

I don't think Kwan fans are rushing to put her in a booth. Kwan herself said that she might have an interest in commentating, so what is wrong with her fans supporting her. I suspect that Michelle has many interests and commentating is probably just one of them. I don't think she will be joining SOI after she gets her degree in December. She is probably fishing to see what opportunities are available to her. Michelle loves the sport of skating and yes the limelight. I think that she would like some involvement in the competition end of it.

maybe, but try to tell that to the fans writing up NBC sports requesting that she be signed on.

Nothing wrong with her pursuing that IF that's what she wants to do, but as a viewer I also have the right to hope that she'd better be good as well...because from what I have seen of her in hosting roles, I have been far from impressed.

(And to tie this back to the thread topic, I think the same thing about Cohen- saw her host that SOI special, my goodness... she's definitely better off sticking with show skating. )

While I love Sasha on SOI, I still have the hope that she will make the comeback!

I could at least see her trying to get all of the triple's back and MAYBE then competing..............

Irregardless of what certain posters say about a skater personally, just realize who they are and ask yourself can they say anything else? I doubt it. Those posters thrive on upsetting others, and it gives them reason to post. Otherwise they show little, if any, interpersonal relationships with others. IMO, they are not happy people and one should avoid responding to anything they say. I believe if you do respond, you will just feed their emptiness.

Today, she is the only american skater who can defeat Miki, Mao and Kim, in my opinion.

I have to LMAO about that. I"m sorry but Mao has already defeated Sasha Cohen and to add insult to injury it was cohen's signature "masterpiece" R&J taht she defeated! Sasha is right where she belongs and that is doing show skaitng with SOI. I don't htik Cohen could hold a candle to MIki, Mao or Kim. If she comes back I'll be surpirsed.

The beauty of having a remote or a refrigerator is you have the option. If you don't like Kwan's hosting, with one flip of the remote, you change the channel, and instantly you will be watching beloved Sasha's fashion on ice. Since you refrigerator is well stocked, like Dick said, take a frige break. You don't set the standard of what is good commentating or what is bad, you as an audience just have a preference whether you like Kwan's hosting or not. Just b/c you like / dislike does not mean the commentator is good or not good.

I believe MK was 15 when she first had a small commentating gig, and she comment on Tara's program. LOL. I had been impressed with her hosting since then. ;)

On Cohen's comeback, my lunch money is on her never coming back in competitive skating. She will talk about it from now till 2010, it is good strategy for many different reasons.

The ex skater I'd most like to see as a skating commentator isn't Sasha and it isn't Michelle.

I'd love to see Dr., Debbie Thomas come back and do a gig as commentator. Now there was a girl who did a great, great interview and has a good 'voice'. And who better to discuss injuries than an orthopedic surgeon?

I don't think Sasha will come back. The jumping part of the sport has advanced quite a bit since Sasha was skating; she would have a very daunting task in front of her if she does try to come back.

I'd be stunned to see Sasha come back personally. She's kept busy since '06 & seems very content w/ the new avenues in her career. I just don't see it happening.
