Sasha's "new" ending pose

AFTER REVIEWING THE PLAY:

It was determined that Sasha did indeed FALL on her I-spin move at the end.

First of all, it came so unexpectedly. But she covered up the mistake so fast that it was hardly noticeable. But that's when you play the footage at normal speed.

Now, if you play your tapes at 10% speed, you can see that when she comes down on the spin, she appears to lose control and slips. Watch how she falls, too. She is even airborne for a little while, and then SMACK- right down on the ice. It's tough to see how that could have been planned. If so, it was executed rather poorly. That among other factors leave me to conclude that it is indeed a fall. Now, the question is whether the fall itself was intentional or not. I say it was not. The expression on her face afterward says it all. JMO.

Well then, she has added artistry to the skating move ---the splat..

Hi, thanks for confirming. I also had the same reaction when it happened. I was like "omg- did she just fall??" I didn't know what to think, really. I just wanted to confirm for myself with the instant replay. IMO, the instant replay clearly indicates that it was indeed a fall. Since it is an EX, it's easy to cover up with some kind of death pose, but it happened so suddenly.

I wonder why the judges didn't pick up on it? Did it not seem so obvious from where they were sitting? I know this would be sort of mean, but if I was up there I think I would have asked her whether she fell or not J/K)

She fell but went with it and did the artistic arms. She had a look of surprise and then laughter right at the end because she fell as she was coming out of that spin.

Thanks Gatzbee for the inside information. I thought it was a fall. It looked like she was having problems with the spin earlier on before it went completely caput and she fell out of it. All in good fun though! She skated well, but I don't like the new music cuts, and I'm not particular fond of the new choregraphy. Maybe it'll look better when skated as a 4 minute piece at Nationals.

I too thought it was illegal now to "die" on the ice. Maybe it was just a fun dramatic move for the cheesefest.

If you had watched the ending when all the skaters were on the ice doing a little exhibition of a particular spin or jump, Sasha did the same spin with the same ending and fall. This was a planned ending not a SPLAT-Dick even commented on the perfect ending. I thing that she skated beautifully.

yea i wasn't fond of the new music cuts. perhaps the only part i liked in the beginning was the new intro music (were they bells/gongs?) but i was fine with the old cuts. was it ever confimed that she went to dave wilson or was that still a rumor?

When was it? Was it near the beginning of the program? I can't find it. When the ladies were introduced on the ice I didn't see them do any moves.

Red Dog, it was right at the end of the program after the winners were announced, they were all on the ice that's when she did the same move.

honestly as someone who sat there in the arena from beginning to end with no bathroom breaks there was no such thing as far as i can recall about doing anything significant when skaters were introduced. i certainly at least do NOT remember that 'ending pose' done 2x. it was a fall in my book, and prolly in the rest of the audience that audibly gasped in the arena. the fact is, it was all so quick, and ms. cohen covered it up with a dramatic flair remarkably well. ABC edited out some of her other facial expressions after the end that played on the jumbotron above, which i felt was just a look of laughing embarrassment. aside from that, from as far as i can remember, when cohen does a good program, she hardly ever ends with that sort of facial expression.

So they just didn't show it...they showed the standard views. Also, I would have thought at least one of the "judges" would have said something about it.

I think Dick was making a joke about the ending. That she fell and did such a great job of covering it up. She did a little dramatic thing with her arms and laughed.

If she did intend to die I don't think that was the way it was planned. You could see the look on her face when she was on the ground of "oh my god" and patted her chest.

hmm don't seem to recall, but then again if it happened, could it have been sort of as a tease to her previous 'fall'? had she done that before her program, then her end 'pose' could have been more plausible. but this was after the fact IMO. anyhow i gotta rewatch my tape to recap some of these things in my mind.

yea, esp. when dick on TV always comments about those minor 'slips' that 'mar' a performance. but in this case, i think this slip was one that worked quite well . but its interesting what an audience's rxn in the arena can tell u. the 'ooooh'ing and 'ahhh'ing for cool moves will never sound anything like a GASP.
