Satoko Miyahara

What were your impressions on her jumps and overall skating?
It's better live for sure. I was very stressed for her, even if I trusted her, but there was not a moment when my eyes left her (which happens when I find programs boring, and that happened more than once in this competition, wherever I like the skaters or not). Her overall skating is improving and she really owned the ice to me (and the costume didn't fade in the ice either, you couldn't miss a single of her moves ;)).
Her jumps also looked better and higher, especially her 3Lz-3T which I found bigger than the rest. I remember Satoko saying she could do better jumps in practice, and is working on doing the same in competitions. It is true. I missed most of her practice on Wednesday, but didn't miss the rest and you can see it's still a bit bigger (both in height and ice coverage) in practice. But the difference is really reducing imo. The more confident she will be, the less and less difference there will be. She said that she wanted to do 4CC, Asia Games and Worlds. It may seem a lot, but considering her endurance and nerves of steel... I believe she can do it and that it can only bring her positive experience.

Is Satoko planing to go to Asian game too? Isn't the event too closely scheduled to 4CC? Since she already has the title there and it is not considered as prestigious as Euros, I think skipping it wouldn't be a big problem..wait the event is pre-Olympic event. I almost forgot.

That's so great to hear. I've always had faith that she can execute her jumps (especially 3-3) better than she did most of this season and her performance at Japan Open is still proof of that. I hope she left her rocky GP season behind and will trust herself from now on.

That's what she said. 4CC is important this season, I'm sure the top Japanese skaters will be sent to the Olympic arena. It's true that the Asian Games and 4CC are very close together but the Asian Games will be in Japan and 4CC will be in South Korea; no worries for jetlag or stuff like that. She said she needs these competitions to become stronger for the Olympic season.

She's probably the only skater I trust in doing both AG and 4CC without much trouble. I would worry too much for the others' health, if you see who I mean.

The other needs to learn how to peak at the right time

The most important thing for Satoko is to stay away from injuries. The last time she had one was 2 seasons ago at her ankle. And she still managed to get silver at Worlds :drama:

Grishin and TAT seemed quite impressed by Satoko's FS as well, btw. My listening skills are rusty and TAT's elocution isn't always the clearest, but after the ending pose it goes something like this:

Grishin: "Phenomenal skate by Satoko Miyahara. What we just saw was practically a masterpiece."
TAT: "I would say there were no underrotations, perhaps one(?)"
Grishin: "Well, I dare say, if there were one, it would be a big surprise (?), she did very well."
TAT: "She was just so invested in the programme. She doesn't want to let it go. She doesn't want to give it up to anyone, and it's obvious that in this tiny girl, there is such an enormous power."

They also talk about how she really fought with both herself and her elements, and has improved the quality and height of her jumps over the past year. Going from 2nd to 5th at Worlds was a very serious lesson for her.

Besides the underrotated 3F, Grishin says "the rest of it was as good as flawless". :)

Weren't TAT and Grishin critical of her until recently? Or so I've heard. It's funny how they said she only had one UR (and it was called) and we had dozens of protest pages here - including this thread - from people insisting she had many other URs that weren't called.

Anyway, even Tara and Johnny are fans now, Johnny praised her for projecting to the audience from the first to the last row. Only Simon and Chris (mostly Simon) criticized her, dare I say enough for all the other commentators combined

The Free program choreographed by Tom Dickson is a masterpiece that everyone can't overlook in my opinion. Some even said it is a champion's program, which I also agree. She is so clever that her strength is not in jump but in her musicality and other areas, so she has kept bringing up great programs with superb choreography on and on. I wasn't a fan of her skating at all until last season, and rather very critical of her, but can't deny beauties in her skating either. I love every programs choreographed by Tom Dickson for her. I hope she can work with the choreographer next season too.

I hope she gets both of her programs choreographed by Tom Dickson, I'm very disappointed in Lori's work for her SP this season. The only thing that saves it is Satoko's smile and joy of skating reminiscent of Akiko Suzuki.

I agree that hopefully she would go to Tom for both of her programs next season.

I have to really salute this young lady. Her perseverance and her hard-working mentality are truly a gem. I cannot exoress it enough but these are also two qualities that make me root for herz besides her brilliance artistry. I personally felt her talent was and is still undermined by many (please correct me if I am wrong) but she never let that negative voices hinder her journey. Intsead, she comes back better than before although some still trying to ignore her efforts and marked improvement. I hope she gives herself more chance to rest, but again, she knows her strength the best. If she indeed decided to join both 4cc and asian games, all the best for her. You can do it Satoko!!!!

I wonder what music choices she'll have next season as it'll be very important since it's Olympic season.

I was listening to bits and pieces of classical music the other day when I was doing housework and thought selections from The Merry Widow would be excellent for her but not sure if it's music that's been done a lot over the years?

That's what I wondered about - I thought Euro guys love Satoko, but they were so harsh on her! I shared their sentiments on the TES score, but why were they so angry about the PCS? They thought she shouldn't have been that close to Anna!

I hope she does something like Hernando's Hideaway for SP next season. It really suits her. She's charming and her skating skills are just

still no video of her LP with CBC commentary :sad21: but glad to hear they enjoyed it and recognized her improvements :luv17:

I think Lori's creativity is in slump except her works for Chinese pair skaters. It is problematic to take so many skaters at the same time. I also prefer Dickson's "Firedance" to Nicole's Un Sospiro last year although both works received good responses. Maybe the federation and team have in mind that the Canadian choreographer is influential.
