Satoko Miyahara

I don't think she needed the exaggerated number of runthroughs in the first place (her practice time was twice as longer as Marin's according to coach Hamada)... it's a sad situation but I hope it will also be a lesson for the future. Maybe she can work on speed and steps before she'll be allowed to jump again.
Off-ice training is important as well. I think there are many strengthening exercises that she can do to protect her hip in the future. Older athletes often say that they don't train as much as they used to but that the training is more valuable because they know their bodies better. Sometimes less is more, the body needs time to heal/adapt after tough training sessions. Finding the right training balance is a process.

Too bad she's out. Satoko's free skate at last year's Worlds was one of my many standing ovations. Hope she takes time to heal and get better.

Since it's already March 26 in Japan I wish Satoko a happy birthday (as happy as it can be...) :hap10:

May the age of 19 be a year she'll fondly remember forever. I was thinking about my all-time favorite male figure skater Daisuke Takahashi and how he suffered an almost career ending injury in the pre-Olympic season 2008-2009 and couldn't compete at all. He had a silver medal from 2007 Worlds but he was off the podium at 2008 Worlds. Then he came back in the Olympic season, got a bronze medal in Vancouver and gold at Worlds.

Follow the hashtag #宮原知子誕生祭2017 on twitter and see all the beautiful fanart the Japanese fans are making for her birthday. :hap10:

Happy Birthday Tiny Queen !!! hopefully this year will bring more health, success and luck to her, excitedly waiting for her return :hb::yahoo::love::cheer:

Happy birthday to Satton!! May you come back with all the blazing glory when next season start, and all the best for your recovery. Slow steps now for a grand return later and hopefully a podium finish in Olympics :yahoo: . Make this one setback a fuel for a more motivated victories. Enjoy your celebration and wish you all the best. Or as I quote Star Wars: May the force be with you!!! :yahoo:

Happy birthday, Satoko! :hb:
Wishing for your speedy recovery and a great come back for the Olympic season.

Yuzuru mentioned her in an interview today. "There were feelings of nervousness between us especially due to our ace Miyahara-san's withdrawal. There were feelings of heavy pressure but in our case (men) I thought if I do my best it'll be fine."

No wonder they felt that way, it was the worst timing for an injury to act up and prevent the team of having their top lady with them... and we know the result. :( but Satoko withdrawing was the right choice, considering she still felt hurt. My Tiny Queen, I hope she'll make a full recovery and be on top form for the next season!

It's very nice to see that Yuzu definitely remember Satton. In my opinion, he seems, at the very least, acknowledge her calibre as an ace skater. I think he definitely admires her abilities, which make he thinks of and feel her absence too :luv17:

Well of course most likely because her unfortunate absense from WC this year really casted a heavy pressure to the JPN ladies team so it is only natural that they share the burdensome worries with their fellow teammates. One can fangirl sometimes can't i? Apologize for the nonsense folks ;)

Quick question, I read that Nebelhorn cup in November (September? Can't remember at this moment :scratch2: ) will serve as Olympics qualifiers too. Does this mean Japan can still earn one more spot if the ladies can perform well? If so, and hopefully Satoko is back with a blazing vengeance in the ring (i really hope she can heal and return with even greater achievements and consistency than ever tgat will ultimately bring her to the Olympics podium :yes2: ), then hopefully Japan can still earn that one last spot?

Daisuke Takahashi talked about Satoko in this article
http://www.nikkansports.com/sports/news/1802800.html

"Although the fact that the possibility of medalling or winning at the Olympics has decreased, it’s also a chance for the Japanese ladies’ strength to become even stronger.

Among the ladies, Miyahara is tough. There will be no problem if the injury heals quickly but there is also a possibility that it can become a recurring injury. Speaking from my own experience going into Sochi, I couldn’t train properly because I was in pain. It was a fight against impatience. I was worried whether I could be in my best condition for the Olympics.

That is why right now I want her to heal. Even if she has a late start, she has the strength and ability to make a strong come back."

Nebelhorn is in September. Japan can't earn one more spot for the ladies anymore, Nebelhorn is for countries who haven't qualified any skaters at all.

Thank you for the information Ioanna. That's a bummer, I thought JPN can still earn additional spot. :slink: Although it will be good as it give chances for skaters from more countries to compete at the Olympics.

I agree that one of the biggest enemy will be impatience. Hopefully Satoko and her team can get proper and total recovery without rushing to get back to the ice too soon. Like a rainbow that appears after a storm, I am wishing Satoko and team JPN a great rebound next season :hap10:

Nebelhorn will still be useful for Japan's pairs and ice dance so that hopefully Team Japan can compete in the team event. That means the potential for more Satoko if she is able to participate. Still settling in from my return from helsinki but I will surely write my get well soon card this weekend. The ladies event wasn't really exciting for me. Her absence was greatly felt.
