Satoko Miyahara

Usually when I'm a little mad about the scores I score the skaters myself. Somehow it makes me calm and it is fun judging the skaters. [emoji136]
Here's how I scored Satoko:
34.64 TES + 36.00 PCS
Total: 70.64

I gave +1 for 2A and 3Lo, -2 for the combo, +2 for the spins and +3 on the stsq.
Over 8s and 9s for the components.

How would you score Satoko?

I don't know the factor for GOE, so I'll just leave it unfactored....
Satoko:
3Lz-3T -2 GOE
3Lo +1 GOE
2A +1 GOE

Spins: +2 GOE (except layback which gets +3)
StSq: +3 GOE

Components:
Skating skills: 9.5
Interpretation: 9.0
Choreography: 8.75
Performance: 9.25
Musicality: 9.25

We both gave her practically the same score! :)

I got 36.98 in TES (3T< only and higher GOE for footwork) and about 35.42 for PCS (I usually calculate this a little differently). That comes to a total of 72.40.

Really hoping Satoko doesn't get discouraged, she looked so disappointed when the score was revealed. Her arm movements and use of upper body, to me, is incomparable right now.

Yeah, she really got lowballed.
It reminded me of Wakababy, after Cup of China she seemed to have lost confidence, I wondered if it was because she skated the best she could and still wasn't enough. :(
I hope Satoko can keep giving us these amazing performances even though she won't get the scores we all know she deserves.

Idk why Satoko never got 36 in PCS. Like she's clearly worth of 9s... I think she only recieved 35 once in last GPF. Like Mao rarely get above 35-36 even though both are really good. Shame on judge tbh

Tatsuki Machida: Her technique may generate a lot of controversy, but I have watched every skater in the ladies’ short program in slow motion and Miyahara-san’s jumps were in no way inferior compared to the others. Her strength lies in her ability to put a program together like an artwork; not only jumps but also spins and steps, everything comes together like a cohesive force. She has made it to this stage by overcoming severe injuries. She has overcome them, skated at Nationals and won her Olympic ticket. She expressed joy for skating and the strength of a Japanese woman. I want you to believe in your jumps and to be confident. I want you to remember that feeling from Japanese Nationals and I want you to skate proudly in the individual event.

Satoko Miyahara and Yuzuru Hanyu finally reunite after a long time. Shy Miyahara: I'm so happy

As Satoko Miyahara was attending her practice session at the practice rink in the venue, she reunited with Yuzuru Hanyu after a long time of not seeing each other. A bashful Miyahara then said: “I was very happy when he told me I did great in the team event.”

Miyahara was able to monopolize the rink as other skaters skipped practice and she carefully worked on her 3S and 3Lz-3T. After practice, she gave an interview for NBC in English.

Bit bummed with her lower than expected score but her performance is sublime!! Hope she will do much better and blew the haters unsolicited opinions as far away as the winds blow. She has gotten the chance to get the feel of The ice and atmosphere so can work for her benefit.

Regardless of the utcome, winning her ticker to Olympic, fair and square as she deserved with her talent and dedication (not pity or anything else) is already a major victory in my book. Glad that she seems to have fun during the team events, attending all team Japan competition and immersing herself to the Olympics euphoria.

Glad Yuzu, daisuke and tatsuki all defended her skating abilities. It can get discouraging to see the flacks she unfairly got sometimes. I thought her jumps look solid (saw some frame to frame pic of her jump and the height, posture all looks good for me there) and I can enjoy the flow without havibg to feel like there's a looming sense of panic and rush or anxiety when I watch some other skaters (i actually felt unexplained sense of I was being rushed when I watch some skaters, don't know why)

Aww.. So sweet of Yuzu to praise Tiny queen, and so cute that she's very bashful about that.

Yuzu indeed like to initiate interaction with Satton, doesn't he? Is his practice time coincided with Satton's? Very nice of him to specially encourage her like that. Hmmm.... Hmm... 😆😄

Best of luck for both of them. They have gone through a lot to be at the Olympics ring, and now I just hope they can enjoy their moments there. Not everyone can skate in the Olympics ice so congrats to them

Just want to add, why I am happy to see recognition from Yuzu, Dai, and Tatsuki, and others because I sometime feel her achievements often being underappreciated, from my observation. It's often praising and discussions about others, which is great and they deserved the recognition but oftentimes very little mention of her achievements. Sadly, again based on my observation, it's the other way around only when she did not perform well. Pardon if I sounded salty.

Very sorry if this becomes like a rant. No offense to any party or anyone please. This is my observation, which I might be wrong or I just being oversensitive here.

Peace all

P. s. Have fun Satton!! Do your best but don't overwork yourself please. The most important thing is you've overcome your injuries and doubts from many to stand in the biggest winter sport events, competing with best of the bests athletes, with those Olympic symbol as a reminder that you've earned your spot. Ganbatte Satton!!!!! 🎉🎉

Recently, my appreciation and admiration of Satoko have grown. How she came back from injury to win Nationals and get on the Olympics team is very impressive. I also realized how much she is consistently underscored. I think Satoko's artistry is on par with Kostner at this point and far above everyone else imo. I was doing my ranking of ladies in this thread for past IJS podiums and I actually had her for silver in 2016 Worlds. I don't understand how she was not able to get on the podium despite only making one mistake in the SP and having the second highest TES in the LP.

I hope that Satoko has a great ladies competition! I think if she is calm and does a clean SP, she will have no problem making the final group for the LP. :)

Satoko Miyahara and Kaori Sakamoto resumed official practice at the Olympic venue on February 18. The two went to Japan temporarily before coming back the day before.

Miyahara: “I was able to have a great practice in Japan. All that’s left now is [how I deal with] my own feelings.”

She watched the men’s free skate at the Incheon Airport after she came from Japan.

Miyahara: “Hanyu-senshu was, in one word, “sasuga” (as one would expect from him; only he could have done it). I was deeply moved. I want to skate as strongly [as Hanyu and Uno].”

Wishing Satoko the best of luck for the short tomorrow. It's not easy to skate after a gold medal favorite (just ask poor Nathan) but whether she gets big scores or not, I'm happy that we got to see her great artistry at the Olympics.
