Senior Ladies SP

Where was Katy Taylor? is she not competeing anymore?

Katy suffered an injury and could not compete in the Finlandia or regionals. This kept her out of sectionals. This kept her out of nationals. This ended her season. Nobody knows if she will be back. :disapp:

"Not so fast. The last time the ladies' champion was defeated, Zhang and Nagasu were not yet born."

Tara beat the reigning champ in *97.*

Flatt is catchable and possibly Wagner - although like Mirai, she seems pretty unflappable.

As a Kimmie fan, I hope and think she will make the top 3 so that she feels like she *earned* the trip to worlds. (Of course, she too had the wuzrobbed of Worlds experience herself in 05.)

For the past year the Zhang/Nagasu talk has given me 2000 flashbacks. So many people were flipping out over Sasha. And I knew that Sarah would be the more reliable performer.

MIRAI!!!!!!:clap::clap::clap:

I'm so happy and I can see Mirai smiling her signature smile,( so adorable!)

I hope she stays focused. I hope she wins and walks away with the crown,
(skategod, I take back what i said if I offended you:bow::bow:)

Caroline has been great on the international scene, but nationally, she has always been disappointed, losing to Mirai last year and placing 8th the previous year. Poor thing. I just feel so bad for her. I bet she wanted to do so well, but the expectations were too high. Now, it seems like, a lot of people are riding her (and Kimmie) off at this competition, but I believe that Caroline will win the fs. At least, I hope she does. I wonder what she is thinking right now...

Well, the SP did not disappoint. I am surprised about the top three ladies and they really deserve the marks. The sold their programs and were justly rewarded:rock:.

It looks like Mirai fixed her flutzing. I didn't even know that she was able to do a 3lutz/3toe. I am just so happy for her! She is my favorite skater after all!

Ladies SP turned out to be pretty entertaining. After the 1st flight, I was getting disappointed. Loved the clean programs from the young ones. They may not quite fit the "ladies" label, but they wisely built programs that played well to their age (light, fun + excellent jumping and clean skating).

Was surprised to see some entertaining programs (clean as well) from the lesser known skaters. I am definitely looking forward to next season's competitions with these fresh crop of skaters.

Yes, you are right, but Bebe has a chance to go as well depending on how they skate on Saturday.

Let's all remember, she will NOT get that in Sweden. :ohwell:

First of all, Mirai can't go to Worlds since she is too young.

About the score, though you're probably right she wouldn't get that at the Junior Worlds, I wouldn't be so sure. If I am not mistaken, she recieved higher scores for both her programs at Junior Worlds last year than she did at Nationals.

All hail Mirai!

Yay Mirai... we do share a name and all - how could I root against her?? As for Kimmie - I agree with MM ~ she'll win the free and probably end of second. (an ironic turn of events for this hardcore 6.0 misser...) Or with the NJS, she could still possibly win... Now wouldn't that be an interesting turn of events??

(but my goodness - how I hate an overall slatfest at Nationals... its just so tacky...)

Very interesting. Some did well in the SP but may not be able to hold it together in the long. Caroline will be fine- she may or may not medal this year (don't count her out!)- but she's got "it" and is in it for the long haul. I'm actually kinda glad that this may not be her nationals- let some of the other girls take the pressure this year.

Mirai, Rachael and Ashley were EXCITING tonight! But who goes to Worlds?

Mirai didn't get scores in the 70's but she got huge scores in Juniors this year..Especially for her short. She got a 60, I believe, and that was without a triple/triple and with the having to do the loop. Plus, Junior scores tend to have lower PCS...

I actually think Mirai would be better received if both skate clean than Caroline, now that the judges know Mirai better. Mirai is a better basic skater.

wow! go Mirai! I've ALWAYS felt she was a much better skater (superior basic skating skills) than Caroline! I'm so happy she's finally being rewarded for her hard work and coming out of Caroline's shadow!

Yay Mirai! I love her! I'll be biting my nails Saturday during the freeskate!

Congrats also to Ashley and Rachael!

Caroline's score is back to being 53.49, and 7th behind Bebe. That was really strange! I hope USFSA will give some sort of an explanation tomorrow.

The line-up of skaters for the LP is already announced, and the top 10 go in reverse order in two groups of 5, except that Caroline is scheduled to go after Bebe -- they must have reversed the scores/rankings after the lineup was already announced. At least it doesn't affect whether these two will go into the last or second-to-last flights, or there would surely be an outcry!

I'm so sad for Caroline. That was a really bad skate for her, she really looked so nervous and unsure of herself before and during the skate. It was like she erased a whole year's progress in one nervous skate -- actually I think her jumps tonight were slower and smaller than her jumps last year on the junior circuit.

I remember there was a fluff piece on TV once about Michelle Kwan, how the look on her face at the start of the program often determined the outcome of a competition. When she looked happy, confident, and carefree, she skated brilliantly; when she looked stressed out, nervous, tout, then she still pulled out good skates worth medals but she wouldn't get the gold that she so much craved.

I've been thinking since then that it's really true, you can often see it on the skater's face before they start. Alexe Gilles, for instance, looked so happy and confident, and smiled from the beginning to the end of both of her performances, and she was brilliant both nights. Caroline, OTOH, looked nervous and tight, almost scared. There were times during her SP when I thought she looked so nervous/scared that she might stop skating altogether -- that contributed to her slowness tonight. It's strange that she held up so well during the int'l competitions, and then cracked at National's. Maybe all the media attention and calling her "the next big thing" really got to her, finally.

I wonder how she will respond in her LP on Saturday, whether she will feel even more pressure because she feels like she needs to prove herself, or whether she will feel more relaxed because all the media attention will be directed at the top 3 young ladies...

I don't fancy her chances of getting a medal now. I think from a level playing field, she has as good a chance as anyone of winning the LP, but right now she would need to win the LP by a very, very big margin to just medal, and I don't see that happening. I don't think her LP is 10 points better than the top four ladies (after SP), if they all skate clean or close to clean.
