That's tight between Johnny and Evan. The LP is going to be fun to watch.

BTW...Does the US send 2 or 3 Men to Worlds?

The USA can send 3 men because Evan finished 5th and Johnny finished 8th last year at Worlds. We just barely got the total of 13 that is required to send 3 guys. Same with the ladies when Kimmie finished 4th and Emily finished 9th (total of 13).

I'm so happy for Johnny! :) I hope he brings out a brilliant 4T in the LP. He's 2ft-ed all his quad attempts so far, I can't wait to see a clean one. I think he can reclaim his title if he skates clean. Go Johnny!!!!!!!!!!!!:love::love:

I don't think Johnny will go for a quad. I think he will hope for the same thing to happen in the long program as in the short. A clean, strong program from him and a couple of bobbles from Evan, and Johnny's the champion.

I want to add my thanks and praise for cocovica! And your English is fine and in the article on Ice Network about the Men's SP they described Abbott as falling out of his jumps as well so that was a perfectly fine description. I know that people just see the "fall" part and freak out, but "falling out" is a term often used to describe jumps. :agree:

Eh, I doubt it. Unless Evan has a complete meltdown (unlikely) I think Johnny will go for the quad, as he did last year at Nats and Worlds.

Even if Johnny has to skate after Evan (and his crowd pleasing Tosca) I think (hope) he will have his nerves under control this year. It should be a great night of skating :)

Thanks for all the pbp's and comments, cococvica and others!

I'm not surprised Johnny and Evan are so close, but I am surprised J got the higher TES and Evan got the higher PCS. I would've expected the reverse!

I think he has to go for the quad. Look at the PCS, they are more than a point lower than Evan's. I don't want to say that that's unfair, because I haven't watched the programs yet. But it makes clear that Evan will also get more PCS in the free (he has a great free program, I just don't think that well excecuted it deserves more PCS than well excecuted Johnny program). Johnny probably got massive GOE on his jumps in the short, that's why his TES is so high - but he cannot count on massive GOE to win this overall. He has to do the quad.

But, I wish them all the best luck for the free.

you're welcome..thank you...so, Am finally glad I was right:biggrin:

Exactly. I haven't seen the programs, yet, either, but based on their typical performances, I would've expected Johnny to be ahead based on PCS more than TES. Has Evan's presentation improved this year? I just realized I've youtubed most of the skaters this season, but don't recall any impressions of Evan's programs this year. And, I haven't seen anything on the "big screen" of TV yet ... But I generally think of Johnny's artistry as second to none.

I am not surprised at the top three. Should be an interesting final on Sunday.

Also, with the scores that Johnny and Evan had...if they can continue that at worlds....well they can win the gold!!

What it looked like to me, watching on IceNetwork and being a skater myself, is that after Evan made the mistakes, he went on overdrive in the "sell the program" department. So, in a way, he did improve, but it seemed to me a reaction to the errors. I could almost see the wheels turning in his head, thinking, "I gotta make this up somehow!"

Thanks for the reports....so, Johnny and Evan duke it out for gold and silver, while Carriere, Abbot, and Bradley are fighting for bronze and pewter? (Assuming no meltdowns from the top two.)

Re, presentation, I honestly think it's because Johnny is self-contained, while Evan is usually selling his program to the audience (I prefer Evan's take, as I'm all about the audience myself.) One reason I've never gotten into Johnny, I think, is he never really grabs me, even when he's technically nailing it. (Ditto Plushenko, for that matter, while Yagudin was magnetic. Though Johnny I like better than Plushenko because he looks nice while he's skating.) He's very inwardly focused.

It's exactly the opposite for me. Which is why I generally think this kind of judging is a bit ridiculous. I mean because it's all so subjective. A performer can captivate you without necessarily making you clap or jump in your seat.
