Senior Original Dance Thursday 4:50 EST

What in the world is with that costume Morgan Matthews is wearing? It doesn't seem to fit with her partner's. And it makes her look waaaaaay skinny.

Todd and Jane were wonderful, I truly think they have some of the best dances of the entire field this season.
I enjoyed Morgan and Leif better here than at regionals, but I'm still not warming up to them as I'd like to. I didn't think they were better than the Hubbells (they were about half a point higher in the OD).

I'm really enjoying the depth in US ice dance. Everyone was amazing tonight IMO, and I can't wait for the video to be available on demand (I want to see D/W's without the choppiness).

I absolutely agree. She's so elegant and classy-looking, and he has such a wholesome, almost boyish charm. I didn't think that those two styles would work together, but boy, they sure do! I hope they have a great FD.

It's sure hard to root for dance teams this year; I like so many of them! Fourth place will be heartbreaking for someone. . . . .

Third place, actually. B/A will certainly win their petition to worlds, so there are really only two spots open here. 5th place will be heartbreaking, too, since it's one step from the podium (US Nationals awards 1-4).

If anyone sees the on demand feed of the OD put up on IN, I hope you'll tell us. Whatever else is on, I want to see it without all the herky jerky feed problems. Particular I want to see that 1920's Atlantic City beach number. I think it's the first time I've ever seen skaters behave like they're swimming.

Still, I think a bronze medal in this deep a field, even if it doesn't buy a trip to Worlds, would be an awfully treasured piece of hardware. Pewter, too!

I really enjoyed these ODs. I thought it was interesting seeing ODs in which the girl wasn't a flapper. The more bluesy programs were a nice change of pace.

I am going to have to rewatch everything that happened tonight because the IN feed was just off. Although, I'm not complaining about rewatching the programs cuz I would have any :p

I just checked, the OD are up for on-demand. That was fast!

What a great competition so far! Love our dance teams. D/W were wonderful, I'm so happy they skated this OD clean...definitely the best out there. Can't wait for their FD. I really liked Nav/Bom, too, I just enjoy them more than S/B. It's great having so many excellent teams to watch.

What's interesting is that the scores actually seem pretty reasonable. There's always talk of Nationals inflating (and I always agree that its there) but this time it didn't really seem that way so much, am I the only one who thinks that?

Video/audio sync and quality is still horribly off during D/W's performance, I wish they'd fix that so I can get a better idea of the performance. I'm enjoying the other teams though!

Some of the routines were amusing and all of them were well skated. There were no surprises in the results, and I do not expect there to be any surprises in the FD.

They are showing the OD on Universal Sports now. Did they have to focus on Trina Pratt's wedgie as she and Chris were coming off the ice?????

I watched the commentary free feed on NBC 4.4 which is crystal clear, so here are my impressions if anyone is interested.

D&W - He seemed to travel away from her noticeably on the first twizzle sequence, and they got slightly out of unison on the second sequence. They also lost a lot speed on the second part of the dance spin, so they probably lost a bitof GOE. Overall I would say it was just a tad off their Skate Canada performance.

S&B - Also a bit off in the twizzles, but overall I was very impressed and would have had them closer on the PCS to D&W.

N&B - Skated about as well as I think they could, but they clearly lost something on the TES which hurt them becuase the PCS were very close to S&B.

I loved Mathews&Gislason and think the detail of the program probably got lost on a choppy feed. It was all very Navka&Kostamorov. Even the dance spin had really nice detail and finish. I'm glad they got third in the OD, but it's frustrating that it didn't move them up into the final group.

Hubbells were solid technically, but didn't make as much of an impression on me.

Much like the CD, I thought Wester/Barantsev were marked much lower than I expected, especially in skating skills. They looked crushed when the CD score came up, but here it was just wistful and kind of "oh well". I guess they see the handwriting on the wall.

I also really liked Pratt&Obzansky. Well matched skaters and good performers.

when she got off the ice she actually mentioned that she had a wedgie. Thanks to Universal Sports for not having commentary sot aht we can hear wonderful comments like that from the skaters.

It was not a great competition. The results were exactly as anticipated. D/W are the most favored team in the US. It would have been a great competition if B/A were there.

Every team there skated their best

How was it not a great competition if everyone skated well, Joestiz? I know I personally enjoyed a lot of the couples, and I'm really impressed with the depth in US ice dance these days.

It would have been more exciting if B/A were here for that battle for gold, but I still think it is a good competition.

I too thought the competition was great. I think that right now the dance in the US is one of the strongest disciplines.
