Wow I liked his SP in russian test skates! That's a perfect choice, thank you Sergei! Do we yet know any other competitions he is in, than GPs. I would really like to see this SP live

He's going to be at Ondrej Nepela. I agree, it's definitely a good program for him and he looks very ready for this season!

I still can't believe Sergei did a quad loop.
As it's a new quad (and as he is not a youngster anymore 
) I guess it took a lot of energy to try and that's where the pops later on came from. The program is great, it suits Sergei's skating so well. Denis did a wonderful Job.

Now seriously: I really like both of his programs and I think despite the pops he performed his fs really well. Music is powerful but not overwhelming. I agree: Denis did wonderful job... Also I really admire learning new quad at age of 30. Now I wish for RusFed to support him more as he is clearly capable of producing results internationally and has no intention of retiring yet

Very nice improvement from the Cup of Russia. Hopefully by next month he'll continue his usual trend of skating very well on the GP (and hope against hope that it doesn't all fall apart at Russian Nats). I just wonder why it always takes so long for him to get new costumes?

in that field the whole russian national team (with few exceptions) is taking his own time

Yeah, that's the trouble. He can mess it up on the occasion, but still be better than some others in the greater scheme of things. But the fed won't care...

it didn't last season and got a pretty fine splat fest. this year i've the feeling they'll push lazukin (who i like, but not as mush as our sergei)instead of samarin, i could put my money on this

Lazukin has some nice qualities, but he has never been consistent & he doesn't get good PCS...he is very slow on the ice. I think being coached by Buyanova will help Sergei politically over Samarin now. At least I hope so.
I was in Bratislava and consider it as a privilege to have seen Sergei’s free program live – to me it was the performance of the night. :thumbsup: I wish judges had given him higher PCS. Hopefully they will be more generous during the GP-events. 
However, the most important thing is that Sergei himself does not pay to much attention to all these things happening in the background, but simply goes for it and tries to skate his best.
Unfortunately I’m not so sure about that. With Sergei’s age in his case I fear her politicking power is limited. What’s even worse in Russia than having a coach with no influence is being to old in the eyes of Russian fed. PCS gap between Sergei and Samarin was by the way ridiculously low.
However, the most important thing is that Sergei himself does not pay to much attention to all these things happening in the background, but simply goes for it and tries to skate his best.

On the competition in Bratislava:
- Sergei perceives this competition as preparation for the mains starts this season. He is satisfied with his performance though not everything went easy. He is happy that he again won a medal as competition was strong.
On the season so far in general:
- For someone it’s better to have less competitions, for someone more competitions, for Sergei it’s the latter Option though at the (local) competition in Sysran not everything went well, but that’s also an experience. In Bratislava he proved that he is competitive on the international scene. He learned a new quad, though the quad is not perfectly clean yet. But for his very young age of 30, he progressed a lot.
On quad loop:
- Sergei showed the quad loop in all three of his appearances. It’s a risk and he worked the whole summer on it. I was difficult, but thanks to his experience he thinks he will succeed in doing the new quad.
On next steps:
- Next step is preparation for the next start, he can’t tell yet which competition. His team has a strategy. You don’t win a war in one battle, but with a strategy. Who is long enough in the business understands that. Some likes to analyze more, some less and it’s good people are all different.
Talking about strategy: organization for the Muscovite sportsmen was done terribly. They had to leave right after the medal ceremony, as they had to catch the bus to the airport, as their plane to Moscow left at 0.30 a.m. So they arrived in Moscow in the early morning. Everybody was in huge hectic and the team doc was helping the skaters to carry their luggage. Therefore it was also very difficult to do interviews with the athletes after the competition, not to speak that it was a huge stress for the skaters. Instead of having a chance to calm down after a stressing competition and get some good sleep before going home, most of them had to pack and check out their rooms before their free skates. Hopefully this will be done better next time.
