Wow I watched the practice his mother posted like 15+ times and I'm still :eeking::shocked::eeking:
So impressive he attempted such a layout and didn't fall on any of the combinations! Losing that costly combination & the silver must have really left an impression on him. His stamina must be crazy to do such a program

But all that said, hopefully he'll remain his composure and not risk himself being injured! :agree: Nationals is around the corner! At least you should rest on your birthday!

Wow a second man with 4Lo. I think he will debut it in TCC next year at the end of the season just like the 4F. As Nathan said in his interview, a skater needs to get the different quads while they are still young.

This will make 4 men with 3 different quads all different combinations.

Nathan Chen: 4Lz 4F 4T (4S being rested for the moment)
Boyang Jin: 4Lz 4S 4T
Shoma Uno: 4F 4Lo 4T
Yuzuru Hanyu: 4Lo 4S 4T (4Lz pending)

Olympics 2018 is gonna be big quad fest.

There is no TCC this year, but there's WTT ;)

I hope this won´t be a falls fest like Sochi.

Sorry im busy for my chores and cant stop by here so often (soon i'll be back!). I put lovely photos of shoma. I find she seems a kind of professional. Her photos are beyond those by amateur.

Im glad there's a translation of news clip about Dai and Shoma. I find it pretty nice.

I pray it's not a splat fest where we spend more time worrying about if they will fall rather than enjoying their programs. It could get exciting but also could get ugly! :palmf:

This is the news clip before GPF. Ive wanted to post it!

Machiko-sensei and shoma, I love to see their strong ties.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D9ICt_EbsQk

Machiko-sensei laughs she cant catch up with this quad era. Around 1:5o, shoma’s V sign towards camera. It’s a promise between him and Machiko sensei. She was delighted to see him remembering it in the huge fatigue right after the performance. She seems so happy. She is satisfied with his growth according to his age.

Thank you hamaguri for the news clip! Machicko-sensei is so proud of Shoma's progress.
She looks great!

eta: OMG the photos of Dai in the magazine are gorgeous!

Shoma says Machiko sensei has not scolded him! (lol). she seems to just love shoma.

Thanks! i love tender eyes of Daisuke for shoma.
(yes, Daisuke's photos are so gorgeous. this interview is so nice and it's one of my long list which i want to introduce here. Shoma and Dai's threads are respectively easy to catch up with, but about yuzu's thread, ive totally given up!)

Thx for posting all these fun things! I wondered when (and why) he had started with the V sign. I thought that was the first time I had ever seen him do that. Now we know why! I was thinking he now had 2 new things he was doing -- the V and sticking his tongue out! :laugh2: Machiko-sensei seems to love Shoma like he is her own. I'm sure she seems like a mother to him. Sort of
:otopic: but does she ever speak of retirement? I know she doesn't travel to competitions anymore. That will be a sad day when she retires!

She truly is like such a doting (grand-)mother towards him, isn't she? :luv17: (But then again, Shoma seems to bring that side out in most people around him ) I've always been wondering how much Shoma is actually coached by her? Does anyone know, if it's a more or less 50/50 distribution between her and Higuchi-sensei with either one focusing on specific areas? I know, that Higuchi-sensei does most of Shoma's choreography, but I'm sure she does a lot more than that! And then they bring in specialists from time to time as well, of course... (or more like Shoma gets sent to them)

Yes, please. :luv17: Maybe that would be best to post in Dai's thread then, if you get around to do it? Or did they talk a lot about Shoma?

:otopic: I wanted to buy this magazine, but couldn't find a retailer, that distributes it. Do you happen to know an online-shop, that would dispatch this to Europe or is it only sold in stores?

I know right? And with the 4A coming into question too.... I've heard somewhere that Brian stated that Hanyu have been trying the 4A for fun a couple of times before, and they're actually pretty impressive? It would be crazy if the 4A becomes an actual reality in the near future, too.
Also, I've heard and seen Shoma land a few 4S, though it's success rate is still below the 4Lo at the moment. With Boyangman off the board for a while now, who knows if his comeback will bring another quad. And yes, Yuzu have been seen practicing the 4Lz.
The men's devision is going crazy :rofl:

Pyeongchang will be a turning point in the history of this sport. :hap85:

There was a program last month or so introducing Higuchi sensei. She even does blades sharpening and costume design for skaters at Chukyo. Multi-tasking!

My dream final group in FS: Yuzu, Javi, Patrick, Loco, Igor and Spidey. We will be getting 21 quads in the FS. And if everyone skates clean, it will be an event to remember for years to come. Hope it will come true before the older ones retires. Hard to get six amazing skaters all at one time. Just a two year window period.

Yuzu is the leader.
Javi is the joker.
Patrick is the thinker.
Shoma is the cute one.
Nathan is the aristocrat.
Boyang is the superhero.

I am actually fully prepared for a splatfest. I love most of those quad obsessed children but 3/4 quads in a program + the pressure of the olympics. No way it is gonna be clean

I'm afraid you're right. They'll probably all be a nervous wreck! And I'll be more nervous than them! I remember a friend of mine who isn't really much of a figure skating fan watched the Sochi Men's programs with me, and I felt kinda bad when she said, "Gee, they sure do fall a lot". Then I tried to explain how figure skating isn't all about falling. :scratch2: I'm not sure if we'll draw in any new fans with a splat fest, but oh well! It is what it is!

ETA -- daphenaxa, I never did see any CBC videos on You Tube. Think I just saw NBC, B ESP, and the Russian version.

I wonder did CBC retransmit Shoma's FP from GPF? If yes does someone have it? I can't find it on youtube. I would like to know what Kurt who is a fan of Shoma had to say.

Also Shoma doing the Medvedeva run-throughs with 3T everywhere #LOCO

There was an old article (2014? 2015?) in one of the tumblr blogs that said Higuchi-sensei really is pretty much Shoma's day to day coach. I wonder if possibly at this point Coach Yamada just lends her name and prestige to their students and mentors Higuchi. And of course, Higuchi-sensei is the wearer of the beautiful fluffy, pink jacket! :luv17: Anthony Liu worked with Shoma on his 4T jump, and he has worked with Stephane extensively this year (mostly working on the tango movements). And most recently he has worked with Alex Ouriashev on a variety of things including footwork and jumps.

Ok, how many coaches actually sharpen blades?! She is incredible! Ya gotta just love her! I've often wondered about Shoma's costumes. And I can't see him being hugely interested in costumes. Didn't he just recently say that the only thing he cared about was if he could move freely? I wonder if his mom gives her approval on the designs. I remember reading how Sota and his mom worked on the design of that last wonderful costume he had.
