I guess we're perceiving this differently then. ;) To me this year's SP is closer to a representation of "his style", while imo "Legends" was a successful experiment, that I would love to see more of.

I think that other skaters might be able to do something similar to Lavender, but I don't know who else can do a Legends type program and pull it off. Also am remembering TSL analyst Jonathan Beyer who said Shoma is good in this year's SP and was great with Legends. He thought he should go back to something modern. The unusual movements really set him apart. Just my humble opinion.

I also prefer Legends, I think it would be great to have one more modern piece and something, if not warhorse like, maybe more classical. Change things round a bit. I have to say though, here at 4CC is the first time I was absolutely fascinated by his SP more so than about LOCO. He really did sell Lavender here, and not only thanks to the purple pants. There is a moment in the slomo recap when he has such a fantastic genuine smile and expression on his face, it's amazing.

Going with my motto of Tangos and Warhorses Forever, ever since I saw Takeshi Honda's Don Quixote short program again, I can SO picture Shoma skating to that music. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=tyLqPmmGUZo It has opportunities for softness, athleticism, fire, passion, audience involvement, super fast step sequence, etc.

According to this article, Mihoko sensei had already choreographed more than 1,000 until 2008. She choreographs about 70 programs a year. Her dream is to choreograph to Bolero. She only works with her students, so we won't see her work with other stakers both inside and outside of Japan.

Other than Kanako and Shoma, I love Mako's Nocturne (FS version from last season) and Yura's The Piano.

Some programs she choreographed other than Kanako, Shoma, Yura and Mako.

I also think current coaching situation is good for him. Shoma really respects and trusts them. They know him well and always welcome supports from others. Mihoko sensei does so many things for her students. She used to design Shoma's costume (and her mom made it), and even does maintenance (sharpning etc.) of her student's skating boots.

Shoma said she fixed his boots broken during World Championships last season.

^^^Thank you 0smile0. I must have seen a translation of that article somewhere. I remember being astonished when I saw the number of programs she had choreographed...I remember Jason Brown saying Kori was his first coach and will be his last coach. When I think of Shoma, I imagine the same circumstances. I just can't see him with anyone else. You can tell she genuinely cares about her students and truly loves Shoma. I certainly don't know of any other coaches who do skate maintenance or make their costumes, although I suppose it's possible.

Does anyone know what version of Balada para un loco Shoma uses? I tried to look up versions on Youtube but they were not quite right. Shoma's lady had just the right amount of craziness

We know for sure it's Milva, but I wonder if they have a custom-made version. Seems like most of the You Tube versions are recorded live which would never work for skating. And the song starts out with a lengthy speaking part. I tried to find it online just out of curiosity but never did.

first things first - I LOVE Your new avatar , lots of Mr. Piantao in avatars nowadays!

and yes - if we talk about some kind of warhorses for Shoma, 'Don Quixote' is definitely a great pick to highlight his musicality and interpretation skills. And I dream to see him one day doing a program to classical guitar music - Paco De Lucia or Rodrigo y Gabriela

Great avatar Arriba! I think it might be a version on one of Milva/Piazzolla's albums only released in Japan perhaps? Back in the day (Yes, getting old) the so called 'Japan Press' was a special collector's item because some artists only released songs in Japan. I don't know if that's the case here.

:laugh: our crazy Men in Purple, seriously - Shoma is too much of cuteness and awesomness, I just want to hug him so hard!!!

you can.. until he is 20... then he joins the harem :) that cute face is mine :) new fan here : always like shoma but the quad loop and the white pant did me...

Welcome! You may have to wait in line for Shoma to join your harem. You won't have to worry about me though
I have graduated to "auntie" status when it comes to Shoma. Now if this was Dai's thread look out.

I like my avatar, but it doesn't compare to MaiKatze's because hers has the authentic nose! So cute!...Don Quixote is a great pick, and I didn't think Takeshi's version used the best bits and pieces of the music. Alina Zagitova is doing her FS to it this year, and it is really a powerful piece of music...Oh my gosh, I was just listening to my Paco de Lucia music ( "Friday Night in San Francisco" to be exact) while in the car running errands! Never thought about him for Shoma, but that could be pretty awesome!

both avatars are cool ;) butt should be a bit bigger though ;) MUAHAHA

I have a Paco di Lucia tribute concert on my DVR... so good... but I think I'd like to see Shoma do something jazzy like blues for klook,... it we are going to channel Dai, why not?

authentic nose LOL:laugh:

since January I'm carrying small notebook where I note my ideas for Olympic season programs for skaters and for Shoma I've got also OST from movie 'Love in the Time of Cholera' - it has got something myserious and tense in it which would suit Shoma in my opinion, here's my favorite piece from that OST:

and also I have 'Rumba d'el jefe' by Jessie Cook - it is such great piece and would suit so many skaters I like!

Hey, watch it there 4everchan, that's my grandson you're talkin' about, also known as Lord of the Purple Pants! Lately he really does seem to be into the belly button thing.

He really is the cutest thing and is even cuter up close! I think David Wilson gave him a great choreography for that new EX and made everyone sit up and go "Whoooaaaaaaa!"
:laugh2:
