OK Jack Gallagher I read your article. It was very interesting and you complimented the skaters but
I am very curious to know who is this "international coach" that you are quoting? Why not name him?

Not only that, but the whole outfit in these brown colours. Maybe that's trendy...but...maybe she wants to be taken seriously, as an adult, but Kanako is still....Kanako after all. (And my imaginary Shoma-crush on her just died, *lol*)

 Well, when he was a kid and asked about the female he liked, he said Kanako, but quickly added that he just liked her as a friend not in a romantic way. :p

Finally found the Spanish broadcasters Paloma and Susana's comments, but only for the SP. They are fairly quiet during the skate so viewers are able to enjoy the performance. Also I felt they were holding back a little bit on their comments, because Javi (their fellow countryman) had yet to skate. Certainly understandable.

This is an incredible 3A into the cantilever, which is an unbelievable demonstration of edges and abdominals (abdominal muscle strength). He has a great entrance into his final series of spins, which is certainly a Level 4. He is definitely a candidate for the podium. Wow! A majestic 3A, great edges in the step sequence - what a naturalness, elegance, and how he feels the music. Such beautiful moves. This will earn huge points, not only in technical but artistic. Very impressive!

(My 2 favorite things - they get so excited and they like to say "Madre mia" a lot :laugh2:. They also really seemed to enjoy Coach Fluffy's reaction and said she took off her Japanese protocol / formality and was really enjoying the moment, enjoying celebrating Shoma's great skate.)

B ESP comments after the SP:
I know he's a great favorite of yours.

I’m fighting back the tears a little bit. He has nerves of steel. He had some rocky practices here and didn't look great in the 6 minute warmup. But when it counted he just hung on in there – that 3A, he had to grind that out.

It's a beautiful program. Transitions in and out of every single element -- very, very difficult indeed. He went motoring into the 4F and kept the speed going coming out. Great knee bend on the way out. Rolling 3’s on the way into the 4T. It makes it so much harder and so much harder to control the rotation when you do that.

He’s a wonderful skater and an attractive looking guy. {{}} (whew - no comments on the mighty thighs)

He’s such a great guy, I can’t say enough about him. He’s super.

I'm always confused when I hear commentators comment on the 'japanese way of reacting' because I never see that formality at all. You can read the japanese skaters faces in the kiss and cry, like you can read the faces of any other sportsman/woman. Same for the coach. Watch Fluffy at last years Worlds after the LP. She's in tears. She does show joy and sadness and everything in between as does Shoma. And it's not something only they do. Other japanese skaters are also expressive.

And British Eurosport is so in love with Shoma, it's almost embarassing. Haha. I bet he's secretly their absolute favourite (he's coming close to be the German Eurosports fave, too. After Javier.)

I think I would have described Fluffy as "unrestrained" at Worlds. Positivity is always her thing, but at Worlds she was SO excited before Shoma even got to the K & C. It was so cute cos it was so genuine. I think she was jumping and hugged Ms. Kobayashi (is that her name). Usually Shoma starts to smile but then gets this "Oh wait, is it humble if I smile?" look on his face. Not this time! I think he knew he deserved to smile after all that hard work, humility or not!

I think of the BESP boys, it's Chris who just loves Shoma (and his transitions). Simon likes him too, but Chris really enjoys his skating (and him as a person).

Personally, I always love when Fluffy and Shoma bow in unison. So cute.

obvious with previous generations

I checked yesterday and these details weren't on their web site, so they must have just posted them. They are doing this show and a charity fundraiser at the end of the month, so I wasn't sure which one he would participate in. Happy to see that Maxine Bautista will perform too. She did well at Junior Nats this year and had choreography by Marina Zoueva.

This will be a good distraction while we have the agonizing wait for the Grand Prix assignment announcements. Last year they announced on June 30. :drama: ...And the burning question, how many days will Shoma kun be here for training?! :dance2:

^^^And BTW, thank you demarinis5 for being my 6,000th thumb! :thank:

Dunno if any of you watch TSL but they really had nice things to say about Shoma in their men world recap. They really are fans of Shoma. Especially my boy Jonathan Beyer was talking about which music he would like him to skate to next season and said the Elgar cello concerto played by Jacqueline Du Pré because "she has kinda this raw, slightly flawed playing but super emotional and it's captivating, it captures Shoma's essence to me". Honestly i think it the best description of Shoma's i have heard.

Yuzuru just can't take his hands off Shoma, hehe.

I did watch this and listened right away to the cello piece Jonathan suggested. I know TSL isn't everyone's cup of tea, but if you can wade your way through some of their goofiness, they actually have some interesting thoughts. I have some notes written down on many commentaries, and I think it's Dave who is a HUGE fan of Shoma's headless spin - which IS pretty awesome.

And it's funny how each time I watch his Worlds programs, I see more. Yesterday I noticed the way he gets this super determined look on his face in the SP, right before he jumps the 3A. He presses his lips together really hard. I imagine he's thinking "Come on, you can do it". I think I may have been screaming " Come on." :slink:

I mentioned that somewhere in this thread, Arriba. I noticed that fiery look in his eyes before the triple axel, when I watched it in the laggy stream when it was live. But you were in the arena, I bet you noticed much more. The little things, or the whole picture that the camera cannot catch. Ah...I will rewatch this competition for a long time.

hello :ghug:, funny thing is that I saw watching his FS live on TV that he had that kind of fiery look, with 'calculation' before his first 3A (one with violin screech when he did combo with 3T, awarded +3 GOE, if I remember correctly or close to that ), he really point that 3A place with his stare, like assessing 'will there be enough place to do it in combo?'. It was one of the few things I noticed immediately while watching Shoma's FS, along with him singling/mouthing words of Lady singing 'Piantao':drama::laugh:

in general his expression grew so much since last season, it's fascinating to see his transformation while he's stepping on ice for his programs, because it's really like the music, steps are getting inside him deeply to produce such unique, fierce interpretation/expression, and each time I've seen his SP/FS this season, I noticed something else about them, little details in gestures, looks, body. Looking forward to see Shoma in action next week at home!

Wow, I've never noticed the above, I'll have to rewatch! And I agree, I liked Shoma well enough last season, but this year he's become really great. I loved both of his programs, and he really got into the music. I became a fan right after seeing his SP for the first time. Now, being a fan of hanyu AND Shoma AND Boyang (another awesome guy with expression who really grew on me during this season of wonders), I give some threads a wide berth. I can't see these three pitted against each other when I like them all. :drama: So yeah, hello, a new fan here. ^ ^

:cheer:, welcome here, surimi!

myself, I am a fan/admirer of so many Men I lost count on it and definitely lost count who is put there against who. I try to cherish great things I see in skating, not really stating who is better, who is worse, because competition will tell results, but there is no 'competition' in my heart/head when I see only good things in each skater who has something speaking to me. And I think that all 3 - Yuzuru, Shoma and Jin - went long road/still are in the process of 'evolution' of their skating, so far they all shown a lot of versatility regarding interpretation, expression; they're getting mature, yet stay 'youthful', dynamic, energetic.
