I find this interview is so nice. Now he’s one of the skaters who attract people’s interests and they talk many things about him as they like. But he himself is down to earth and stays on his feet and just keeps doing what he should do.

Oh my goodness -- thank you for all your translating. I really appreciate the time you put into that! That was a wonderful interview and again confirms that he knows he has a lot of work to do. It will be interesting to see how he handles the second year of senior's pressure. (Isn't Windows 10 horrible?! Hate it!)

Thank you to you and lilico! Finally I am.able to watch videos on my Kindle again. Another great MAD. I know I had never seen him wearing that hockey helmet! The helmet was bigger than him I think! Thank you for cheering me up!

I know this will sound crazy but it was very depressing to me to read all the things written in the Shoma Uno Raises the Bar thread! He knows what he has to do to improve, so I guess those fans who care about him just have to trust that he's doing those things. I just kept thinking, "Wow - is his skating really that bad?!" Normally I would have watched his Grand Prix Finals FS to cheer myself up but was in a remote area where I couldn't watch any videos.

If that's the case then be careful to never become a Satoko fan because every thread on this forum would be depressing Constructive criticism is acceptable. His skating is not that bad, but it feels like he's trying to do all these things at once and the improvements don't happen overnight. I hope he and his team know what he's doing but I think people's concerns are valid if you look at what happened to Kanako Murakami in the long run.

I appreciate your sane comments. Thank you. No matter who our favorites are, it can be a bit much when people nit pick at every little thing. Some of it is probably done out of jealousy. Bottom line, he had a great senior debut season and can hopefully continue to improve and (most importantly) not sustain any injuries...I'm sure it is discouraging for Satoko fans. I like her but am not a huge fan, although I find myself extremely annoyed over all the fuss being made over Marin. I'd better be quiet though, since I don't want any depressed Marin fans (and I do like her!). :eeking:

No way! He's in the Chicago area then! I saw the town Vernon Hills which is one of the places Tomoki trains. Almost looks like some kind of skating camp. And I recognized the restaurant right away -- it's Maggiano's Italian restaurant. There are a few of them, one about a mile from my house (but it most likely would not be that one). Probably downtown Chicago. Looks like he's having fun, and he did ok with his bowling! Definitely have to try to figure out exactly where he is. I'm in Canada right now but will try to check it out when I get home. Hmm. Wonder how long he's there. Wonder how the English is (or is not!) going?!

Just looked it up -- Tomoki trains at Center Ice of DuPage in Glen Ellyn and Glacier Ice Arena in Vernon Hills with Coach Alex Ouriashev. Of course that doesn't necessarily mean Shoma is at either place. We have so many facilities it would be hard to know without a little more information.

I didn't even notice that the bowling scores had been posted as well. He won one game and lost another one. He must be practicing like mad now because he hates to lose! :big grin:

His official website said he’s in the U.S. until the beginning of July. He should be back at least by PIW Tokyo in mid-July but I wish he could stay longer.

I don’t think you’re crazy at all. I think a lot of skating fans stay away from forums for the same reason but I think that's why the Fan Fests section exists

That's who I was hoping he was with, but it does seem a bit strange if he wasn't at the rink, even for a week, since Shoma himself is only there for a couple of weeks. But I do really like the idea of him training with someone who is known for teaching jump technique!

Thx Tavi. I don't know too much about Ouriashev. Sounds like that's a good guess though. I know Tomoki is doing well with him. If Shoma isn't with Ouriashev, I can't even begin to imagine what he's doing. And there are so many rinks in the suburbs, it would be hard to guess where he is! I think Gracie used to train in Buffalo Grove and Rolling Meadows...Wonder what Shoma thought of Maggiano's!

I laughed right away when I saw the bowling scores! Now he will hate to lose at skating, his favorite video game, and bowling! The one Facebook comment was funny when one of the other bowlers said "This will be the only time we can say we beat Shoma Uno!" I can only imagine how thrilled those young skaters must be to have him there...Wish he could stay longer, and maybe he'll like it enough to do a permanent move?? (now I'm dreaming!)

Looks like they have other coaches at that rink who specialize in ballet and choreography, so maybe he is able to work on some of those things too, even if Coach Alex isn't there.
