Javi skated his Elvis FS at the Japan Open, and I really liked it! He is such a great competitor. Besides Javi and Shoma, Rostelcom also includes Deniss Vasiljevs (now being coached by Stephane Lambiel), Mikhail Kolyada, and Max Aaron -- all great competitors. Plus some other skaters that I'm not that familiar with. It should be a VERY interesting men's event.

Basically I don't like Javier's fp, since I'm bored that he keeps the same taste, but I'm sure he will stay a champion this season for some reasons. For max, this is the first competition? I expect him! And stay healthy, all the guys!:yahoo:

That's very true about the style, but I love Elvis, so I guess that makes me like it!:) Good decision by Max to not return to U. S. I thought maybe he would go to England but was just guessing that. I couldn't open the Twitter. It was blocked for me. Max was at Lombardia in Italy, but this will be his first Grand Prix event. Then he has Cup of China. We really need them all to stay healthy. Too many injuries already!

Nope. Russia and then no Shoma for a month barring he makes the final *sad panda :(*. I'm also curious about the match up but I expect Javi to come out on top, though not by a lot if they both do the same stuff.

It will be a good match up. I still can't decide what I'll put for the predictions game. Why does ice have to be slippery?! :drama:

I think it all depends on Javier's form. If he's on, it will be almost impossible to beat him. But he cannot afford too many mistakes. And Shoma must be perfect. *verycurious*

He sounds like he has a little bit of a cold, but I guess I'll believe him if he says he's in good condition. :) Wait - do they get to fly Business Class?! I'm SO jealous!

Shoma does sound a little nasally. If it is a cold lets hope the worse is over.

Great group of skaters in all of the disciplines will be competing in Russia this weekend. I am looking forward to it.

Thank you - it is good to be home! No more traveling until January! I got very lazy at SC and did very little posting and didn't take any photos at all. I just sat back and enjoyed the competition (and clapped and cheered a lot too!). Slightly OT, but my favorites at SC were MEN - Yuzu and Patrick, LADIES - Rika and Kaetlyn Osmond (CAN), PAIRS - Duhamel and Radford (CAN) & Denney & Frazier (USA), ICE DANCE - Gilles & Poirier (CAN) and Chock & Bates (USA). For the most part, it was not a good competition for Americans. I was hoping Mirai Nagasu was going to medal, but it wasn't meant to be...I will PM you more details about your favorite.

In the new news clips where they are going to Rostelcom, it looks like Shoma got another haircut! Honestly, between that hair and his pink fingernail polish, he must spend a lot of time at the salon! :) In that photo I took of him at Glacier, his hair is really wild looking...Hope he has a positive experience at Rostelcom.

Haha brilliant. Kanako is a cuticle. I love the look of Shoma, like *well, I didn't want to go, but the girls dragged me to accompany them for shopping, and I must admit I kind of enjoy it, but I'm too cool to show it on the photo, so here is my sulky face again*

That's so funny you would say that! As I was posting that photo, I was thinking that going through his mind was "All I care about is taking a nap!" or "Why does mom have to take so many photos?!"

The photo is perfect for a caption contest. :laugh2:

Nice 2 page article on Shoma in the Dec. issue of International Figure Skating magazine. The beginning part mostly reviews his first season as a senior. Here are a few of the other highlights:

MUSIC CHOICES -- Regarding the SP, Shoma is aware it is essential to put his own stamp on this piece of music. He would like to create something as unique as Mao, Akiko, and Tatsuki were able to do. Regarding the choices of music, he lets his coach choose the music for his programs. "She always asks me, what would you like to skate to?" and I say "Anything is fine." There are some genres that I think would be difficult for me to interpret, but once I start working on them I can perform them well. Up-tempo music really gets me going, but I really like slow music too. I also like powerful music." He says the only music he doesn't like is comical music. "I find it embarrassing. Music that you see little kids skating to that is really peppy is not what I like. Cool music that is upbeat is fine, but I cannot do music that is cutesy and perky."

FIRST COMPETITION OF THE SEASON (LOMBARDIA) -- "I think I moved well. Being able to move your body freely is so much fun. I always get stiff and tend to have enough on my plate just landing the jumps, but that was the first time in quite a while that I was able to move in the way I wanted."

ADMIRATION OF YUZU -- He admires what Yuzu has done but also sees him as a target. He sees him as 100% and is the skater he respects the most. His personal goal is to skate at his level, and he also wants to beat him one day. He knows he has a lot to work on and knows in comparison to Yuzu, his jumps, overall quality, and expression need a lot of work. "Overall, there is nothing yet that I have complete confidence in and there is still a lot I have to do...However, the one thing that can perhaps give me confidence is that I believe that there is nothing I cannot do."

OLYMPICS -- With all the talented Japanese skaters, Shoma is aware that a place on the Olympic team is not a foregone conclusion. The most important things are to not get injured and to not rest on his laurels.

QUADS -- He saw a video of Nathan Chen's summer performance where he landed a quad Lutz and a quad flip and he was in awe. He knows he will need another quad besides the flip and the toe, and the loop is the most realistic. Quality and reliability are extremely important before adding it into his program.

His dream is to be a skater that can touch people's hearts with his performances.

Beautiful photos. She alway writes the best reviews. Love her Shoma comments! I also love the picture of Mariah Bell. She was magical!

Another great Eden. Skate America had a lot of dramas...

Thanks for your report! you must have exausted. Your next competition is US Nationals! Im already scared about Men.. it must be blood bath...

I read the twitter of Japanese TV, they’ve already been in Russia. They say it is pretty cold there, and their fingers freeze. Last year, his second GS was in France. Im a bit worried about the climate in Russia this year. Hope he doesnt catch a cold.

You both are great mind readers!
