Latest repot about the practice on the day of SP

Today his condition of jumps isnt good compared with the previous ones. he already predicted that. Yesterday he implied that his condition might get worse the next day, since that day his condition was too good. But he also says like that what matters is metal in competitions.
In another article, he says he doesnt mind any result here. He focuses on himself only and it seems he doesnt have any interest with Javi. Just be yourself, Shoma!

I think with Shoma you can never say, right? Wasn't he bad in the warm up at Skate America and skated perfect quads? I wouldn't worry too much. :) I just rewatched his Worlds LP, there is a video with an interview right afterwards from japanese TV. How can they interview someone who is crying like that? It just seems unnecessary. And Mihoko Higuchi looks like she's holding back tears in the knc too....I never want to see these expressions again. I think it might've been a great learning experience and help him in the long run, but when it happened it was so heartbreaking. It's definitely at the top of sad knc moments. *sigh*

Shoma next. Come on lavender man - you can do it! :hap85:  Nice big cheer as he comes on the ice!,,,Quite a few Japanese fans there.Beautiful 3A--quads so-so. That final spin is incredible!!!!. Didn't stick his tongue out. Moves into 1st place with 98.59. Closest competitor is Kolyada with 90.28. ETA--Now closest is Javi with 91.55.

Congrats Shoma! You did it well although your condition today isn't good. It must give you more confidence in yourself. I'm so happy!

Briefly about what Tatiana Tarasova said, i'll translate the whole comment later.

"I hope the the flights won't affect his skating as he's a unique skater."

"How does this person covers the whole ice with just two steps???"

"He didn't skate clean but he did it with confidence."

"He is the only person in the world who jumps the 4Flip. I think they should give some kind of a prize for this as there are more than 10 who jump 4S but no one does 4Flip"

"He deserves this mark of 98.59 as he jumped 2 quads."

Thx for translation Nagini. Agree on his speed. When you see him live, he is SO fast!

I agree! On Worlds in Boston even though he fell on the jumps he was fast and looked great! :agree:

Edit: I am so grateful that i had the chance to see him skate the FS live.

I don't think he ever lights the world on fire in practices. Seems that I remember Mihoko sensei saying that (when he was a junior) he would wear himself out in practices and get too tired. I'm pretty sure the day of the FS at Skate America he didn't do well with his quads in the morning practice or in the 6 minute warm-up practice prior to his skate. Somehow he just seems to have a different calmness now.

score comes!

so happy to see he gets level 4 for steps and spins!
As i'd expected, Javi was dull today (but high PCS). but his peaking is towards Worlds every year. Competiting with him is difficult... Anyway, stay healthy, shoma!

Yes, very happy to see the Level 4s! Love that last SP spin! I relented and bought an Icenetwork subscription so I can watch live, even though it aggravates me to have to pay for it. :laugh2: I am enjoying it though already. Pairs next...Thank you for all the news and photos you post!

Grishin: We will see Shoma next in Marseille on GPF this year.
Tarasova: Well he flew from Japan to Canada and from Canada to Moscow
Grishin: Yes very long flights.
Tarasova: I wouldn’t want this (the travelling) to affect his skating as he’s a unique athlete.
……… Quad Flip.
Grishin: He managed it!
Tarasova: 4T 3T
Grishin: The combination was fine but the 2nd T
Tarasova: Yes he did it with a little back flip but the exit wasn’t long. This is a completely different level of difficulty.
Grishin: Yes two Quads including the 4Flip is very serious.
Tarasova: Was thinking and fell asleep (on the combo spin).
Grishin: The audience woke him up :D
Tarasova: How does this person cross the ice in 2 steps?..
Grishin: He’s the shortest skater
Tarasova: …Soo much Power inside him! Axel with a difficult entry and difficult exit.
Grishin: In the second half of the program.
Tarasova: Of course he’s swaying after the flight. The StpSq Very well done.
Grishin: Very Very Good boy!
Tarasova: You understand that he didn’t skate clean. All of this is done with 100% confidence. Flights, no flights, day or night (talking about time zones), sleep or no sleep no one is asking him but he did the 2 quads which are very respectful, especially that it’s the Flip. Especially that in the whole world the Flip is jumped only by him.
Grishin: Yes only one person jumps the 4Flip.
Tarasova: Yes only one. Only for this I’d give a prize as this is not Salchow which a dozen people can jump. Can you imagine, they will lower the points for the exit on the flip?! (She said it with a bit of anger)
Grishin: Yes they will.
Tarasova: He’s fighting for every jump as his axis is off today.
Grishin: In 2 weeks he crossed the whole globe.
Tarasova: Here you can see Mihoko Higuchi sensei is showing ..
Grishin: She’s very pleased.
Tarasova: Of course she is, she flew together with him. As well she might not feel fine at the moment.
Grishin: We’re discussing all these factors, time zones, flights, weather but when this guy, steps on the ice, who doesn’t even have 160cm height, and shows that despite everything one can show this level of execution from nowhere.
Tarasova: And the speed in his spins. Japanese people are a separate kind, people who are very accustomed with work, with respect to elders and to work without any comments. He watched bowed and went to do the part.
Grishin: Very important…. WOW 98.59, both the athlete and the coach can’t believe it. With a very big margin beat his own record.
Tarasova: Of course! How otherwise?! When Kolyada jumped 2 Quads he got 98 as well, how otherwise?! This is the correct mark for this kind of skating skill.

Edit: Tarasova said he flew from Canada. I don't know how accurate is that since he participated in Skate America.
Edit no.2: Tarasova and Grishin said coach Yamada but they made a mistake it is Mihoko Higuchi.

Me too! Will never forget how he took that horrible fall and then immediately jumped a textbook perfect 3A and the audience went crazy!. I think maybe my ears still hurt! :jaw:

And poor thing was crying so hard in the end :sad14:

And poor thing was crying so hard in the end :sad14:

I heard that when the team bus left a few hours later, he was still crying. I figured by that time he had beat himself up enough and it was time to move on. I knew he was ok when the following day this photo came out of him enjoying himself in Boston. ETA: How ironic is it that there is a huge pile of broccoli sitting in front of him! :rofl2: https://xxiliiyx.tumblr.com/image/142270866683

That info about him flying from Canada doesn't sound correct. I think it was Javi who took those flights. Also I didn't see Coach Yamada with him. I saw Mihoko Higuchi.

Thanks!:yahoo:
Of course, im glad they praise his ability as a difficult jumper, but what makes me delighted is they really praise other aspects of shoma. Nice excecutions of each element, skating skills, passion for skate from the whole of his small body. I was so moved by their comments. To see his performance, you can immidiately see how he’s tackled sincerely as an athlete. They admits he deserves with his score. Well done, shoma!

Yes i was the one to notice him and told everyone else to run towards the bus (I felt like a 15 year old fangirl when running like that). We met him. He was devastated and the bus wasn't leaving for a long time so we were kind of almost shouting: "Take him home already"!

As well we had the opportunity to meet Max Aaron and Adam Rippon. We saw Patrick Chan, he didn't want to talk to anyone. Brian Orser passed by. That night was one of the best nights of my life!

Thank you for the corrections I just re-watched and they indeed said Yamada, i guess they made a mistake as well as i did. Sorry!
