Yay, have an awesome time guys!! The last World's before Olympics is always so special and intense. Enjoy every moment that you can, especially the off ice tidbits that no one else around the world will see. Looking forward to reports!!

I was reading the Hero translation and some comments:

Shoma thought last year’s 4CC and Worlds were too far apart in time, so decided to add Coupe du Printemps this year.

You also had AWG, Shoma. My body is tired just thinking about it. But CdP seems to have been a very positive experience for him, especially in terms of his SP confidence.

Reporters gave Shoma a photo of himself crying after 2016 Worlds. Shoma: “My body wouldn’t move, it was my first time. It felt like my body wasn’t mine.”

I... I can't even. Which reporters were these, Japanese ones? Is this common? This just comes across a trying to rub someone's failures in their face... I mean, I understand if he was commenting on a video of his performance and his K&C reaction was part of the retrospective, but to actually show a photo of it!? :furious:

On this season’s Worlds: “I want to do a performance that won’t leave regrets, I want to end it with a smile and not betray everyone’s expectations. Even if I fail at the beginning, I’m going to keep going til the end.”

That's the spirit! Attack it! I wasn't around last year for 2016 Worlds but I have seen the video of his FS and his crying after in the K&C was heartbreaking.

I didn't feel betrayed. I think, generally, the athletes themselves hurt the most. The fans and team can support him, but in the end I think the athlete is the most disappointed if it doesn't work. He doesn't owe us anything. It hurt my heart to see him cry like this. I just want to see him smile. Whether he is 5th or wins the Gold, as long as he's satisfied, it doesn't matter.

What I loved is that he focuses on artistry and sees himself more as an artist than a jumper. Right on!

Yes Shoma's tears were heartbreaking at Worlds last year. Who can forget Da-chan's tears after
Japan Nationals when he did not make the podium and his dream of Socci was in jeopardy, heartbreaking.
And Oda's outburst of tears is legend. But I don't think the Japanese press think less of its athletes for showing a real human emotion
on the contrary.

.

He looks well rested... and 10 years old.

It certainly looks like his early arrival has been good for him and hopefully it will be the secret to him feeling ready to compete... no more jet lag!

...and love that you can still get a personal snap of him without big, burly security guards having to protect him from all the fans...

Hi everyone! Thanks for your information and updates! My terribly busy days kept me from stopping by here. Im so sorry!
I will go to Helsinki for men's events, practice and ex. I will bring my camera and pc, so I want to share my report and if possible photos. I really wish all skaters can show the performance which they want to achieve!

Go! Shoma!

Great to hear we'll have another on-site reporter! Wish y'all to have lots of fun together! :yay:

Thank you! I'm here and getting settled. The room is nice and we're next to the skater's hotel so maybe there will be some sightings! If I met Dai I'd die :drama:.

Hey, you're supposed to be the calm and collected one, remember? ;) If I survived it, you sure will as well.

And no worries, I made sure to pack my purple sweater dress so it'll be doing double duty on Thursday!

Yay, gonna try to spot you!

They sure like to provoke reactions, yes, but I wouldn't say it's much different from other nation's media tactics.

Who can forget poor Shoma kun and his tears last year -- the poor newbie in the unenviable position of skating after Javi with his lighthearted skate-of-a-lifetime program that received a standing ovation and deafening applause. The whole arena went crazy while Shoma listened and waited his turn to skate. Only later did we see that when Fluffy was holding his hands at the boards prior to his skate, he looked utterly t-e-r-r-i-f-i-e-d!

But this is a new year with many new experiences, and I have a good feeling about this competition! He really DOES look well rested in that photo above. I feel like he is ready to roll and of course he will have nerves, but I think Mr. Lavender/Mr. Piantao is ready for the challenge. Hopefully my lavender striped blouse will bring him good luck in the SP! Whether he is 1st or 21st, I know I still enjoy his skating and appreciate all his hard work. It has been so fun and a joy to follow him this season as he has worked so hard to improve.

I brought my Japanese flag and am ready to wave it! Go Loco! :points: :hap85: :clapper: :hap10:

I definitely think and hope that Shoma is better prepared for this Worlds than he was last year. I'm not sure how if will mean he will move up, though. But two good performances will give him so much for next season.
