Welcome to GS and thank you so much for the photo you bring us. It's such a lovely photo and Shoma looks amazing!
hey welcome! idk if you have seen this program https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kSMDwmbtcb4 if not it's amazing you should watch it. and he does an ina bauer at 4:00. It's not long but it's there.
But i guess maybe you mean layback ina bauer like Shizuka and Yuzuru, in that case i don't think Sho has ever done one and i don't think he ever will since it is such a Yuzuru move now.
I think your faith in him has to do with his ability to keep calm during his performance. Even when he makes a mistake (falls, etc), he continues on without a change in his body language or facial expressions, and is generally still able to perform the rest of the program well.
Welcome to iorii, my fellow newbie on this forum! So many of us newbies and previous lurkers revealing ourselves now! :-D

Of course, his haters loved that and said, “That mess was a turning point?”

It's my favorite performance of his "See you Again", despite the fall on the attempted 4L.

I remember that and had the same impression! loved it too, he seemed to be reveling and feeling so free, was jumping with energy and abandon. what a relief after the competition yes, and thank you for bringing it up, it seems awhile ago now!

https://youtu.be/F5zmBCyGxzU?t=285 GPF FS – best spin of the year followed by the “did I really just do that?” look. Yes, you did Shomita, and you did it under huge pressure!
https://youtu.be/xytyB-XiINM?t=185 4CC SP – love that he is SO happy at the end and no doubt thrilled that he debuted the 4Lo and did a beauty with a good + GOE. I also love B ESP Uncle Mark’s comment that Shoma is incredibly eager to improve his skating. Just LOVE this K & C where Shomita and Fluffy are so cute together!
We are in for a great time next year! Winter and Turandot are going to provide lots of thrills and chills moments, I'm sure!![]()

ETA -- Welcome iiori!

Has this been posted? Group photo from Elladj's instagram featuring Shoma in cat ears again. It's the cutest thing ever, which contrasts so much to those gifs posted before of his bit-lipping cantilever. Cute!Shoma vs Notsoinnocent!Shoma.![]()
:
Don't think so. OT, but Shizuka-Mama with her little girl is the most adorable thing ever.
While we're at it...(the cantilever gifs are the new thigh gifs!)
I actually think the first one is the most :eekn: I would use words that are not allowed on this forum, hehe.:
Second one has the lip-biting...as good as it gets....
And the third is the one with the naughtiest smile....
All are different, all are gold! This slow gifing really works in favour of highlighting the difference between the cantilevers!![]()

I kinda love how you can immediately see whether he's satisfied with the performance, and then the scores don't influence his mood that much. Like how after his CDP and Worlds 2017 SP he just skips on the ice (Tarasova called him "a little goat" there...), happy with his performance, but in WTT, even though he skated clean and very well, he's dissatisfied since he had to turn 3T into 2T, so he's not very happy there. And of course in other cases others already mentioned. Sometimes Mihoko is more emotional at K&C even, because Shoma already kinda... knows how well he's done? in a way? I think that speaks to his immense mental strength and how he's mentioned numerous times that he is kinda always... striving for this ideal and skating without the other skaters and scores influencing him, skating by himself and for himself (and not really for scores, though of course sometimes he's still surprised by them — but notice how he isn't surprised at all at Worlds 2017, at least not outwardly; he already has his own assession of how well he's performed). That's also why I have so much faith in him, too!
I opened these gifs at work right now. This is not appropriate. Stop him!!![]()
I could imagine Javier, Jin Boyang or even Yuzuru with a programme like this, but to me Shoma appears as a different person and type of skater. In my opinion he is very determined, serious and cool, but not playful. It's probably a bit unfair to compare him to this, which is a later program of Daisuke (he was 26 at that time and didn't have the tech needed today...but I just watched that and thought, well, I think Shoma can slowly get there, perhaps with time and a bit more maturity). He can ooze the sensual, sultry stuff already, but at 19 he still has ways to go. Foundation is there, though. Not that Daisuke was ever really rewarded in PCS for the wonder he was. *stillbitter

On the other hand I seem to recall, that Daisuke is Shoma's huge figure skating idol. Maybe I'm completely wrong about him and Shoma turns out to be the perfect entertainer... #WhoKnows
I don't know much about Daisuke's history but I'm sure he didn't come formed sultry and seductive out of juniors either. The kind of program he did at 26 he probably couldn't do when he was 19; that was something he developed that as he gained maturity and confidence. Shoma is developing that confidence and I actually find him very mature in his skating, especially compared to his age peers. There are glimpses of his potential for that kind of more playful nature, whether conscious or unconscious (he's gotten into this lip biting habit on his cantilever... who knows what'll come next!), but yeah, he's still only 19 and in his second senior year and the comfort level to express that inner playfulness will come with time. I'll actually be able to appreciate that kind of playfulness more without feeling guilty when he's a little older too.
