Thank you karyi four your first hand report and I am glad you enjoyed yourself even though you were stressed because of Sho's condition.

Shoma got a lot of love from the audience. I heard a "unique scream" quite often from audience was that you?

Your English is great.

Thank you karyi. I for one am not joining the moan parade about the french GP. As far as I could see it was a nice and cozy event. And the stars instead of the medal, I didn't think it was bad. Rather different than a medal, something special for the skaters. And the audience seemed warm and cheery. Those who were there really enjoyed it.

Here is what Shoma had to say after the LP from shoma-uno-tumblr.

Very mature and I'm positive. Like I said I think this experience won't be half as bad and will make him stronger in the end.

Thank you, karyi! I can imagine the kids following him around, they seem to like him. It's like how it was in Chicago. I'm glad you enjoyed yourself. You're right, he tends to remember the bad skates more, the challenges make him tougher and he realizes what he's capable of.

Thanks also for the German translation, MaiKatze! They don't seem to be updated on Shoma's condition, but that's actually perfectly fine, since it gives us a non-fan view of things. I think this is actually an advantage. Those who are not aware of his being ill not too long ago, with little on-ice time before this event, will just assume he's not doing so well and pushes too much under pressure. It makes him more of an underdog at this point, and places less pressure on him. Not necessarily in the eyes of the Japanese fans, of course, but the expectations may have been less because of this event. I'm perfectly fine with that. I have to say, though, that it's pretty amazing how quickly people change their minds after the results of one event. Despite doing so well in Lombardia and Canada, and having the two best total and free skate scores of this season thus far, he's already being placed behind Nathan in the ranking in the Olympics. It's very interesting. Anyway, this season is so unpredictable, who knows what will happen? Sergei Voronov might yet win the Olympics!

Tough event for Sho. But regardless of the falls I still liked both of his performances. It's not like he suddenly can't do anything when few jumps go bad. :cheer2: Victory ceremony was priceless. Seemed to cheer up even Shoma :)

A fan met Shoma at the hotel. He looks happy and much better than yesterday! :)

Podium was priceless : he was so genuine, cute and funny, I like him even more.
Last thing : I understand all the critics about the organization of this gp but it was kind of fun and amateur (awesome crowd), it's a small venue so you can easily talk to the skater (Mai Mihara is the nicest girl)
Karyi, thank you so much for taking the time to tell us your wonderful experiences. I am so excited for you that you got to experience the magic of a live Shoma performance. He is so unique! His magnetism just draws you in! And the smaller venues are so wonderful! It was hard to not bother the skaters at Sk Canada too! You'd be walking around -- oh, there's Kaetlyn Osmond, there's Aliona and Bruno, there's Vanessa and Morgan! But they were busy stretching or warming up (off ice), so it took a lot of discipline to just walk by!

Don't pay any attention to what people say about the venue. It's important that skating be brought to many different places - not just the huge cities! When I got home from Canada, I couldn't believe what I read -- the audience was not supportive, the competition was crummy. I kept wondering if people were talking about an event other than the one I attended! What was evident to me (and I was watching live on Ice Network) was that the crowd was having a great time and was being VERY supportive of skaters from all nations. Of course, the cheers were always loudest for the French skaters, as they should have been. What a thrill for these skaters to skate in front of their home crowd! There were no "real" flags? So what! Shoma definitely proved he has "guts" and I am thankful things turned out ok.

I imagine Sho will do his duty and skate at the gala, as I'm sure people want to see him again. I still have nightmares of how Nathan blew his hip out at a US Nationals gala. Hopefully the prince will skate wisely!...He was absolutely precious on that podium with all the stuff he was trying to juggle.

Lastly, they showed some people eating fabulous sandwiches on baguettes. Ha, ha! Notice how I focus on the important things! :laugh2: I hope you had a chance to have one of those!...Thank you again.

I found this hard to translate, for some reason some idioms don't work that well in english, so if any german member wants to chime in, feel free.

I´m not German but I do understand German well and I think you got it perfectly! Thanks for the translation!

thanks everyone did you watch CBC version of the long ? little surprise they couldn't spell his name properly.... after three years really :slink:
french commentators did the same this afternoon !

Not sure where the information came from but according to this Twitter user Shoma isn't injured anymore and hasn't been injured in a while. If this is true then THANK GOD!

I don't know what to believe in this case. There was that incident at the shows in summer and Arriba has seen Shoma having problems at Skate Canada. And some of the things he said, like he doesn't want to talk about it, if it were only about his fever, that doesn't make sense, cause he did talk about it and that it was the reason he couldn't practise. I just think they don't want to communicate about every detail of Shoma's physical condition until they absolutely have to. So yeah, slightly optimistic but I still think this 'rumour' isn't exactly unfounded.

Shoma Uno was not injured but he has just recovered from a flu, which is why he made several jumping mistakes in the second half as he lacked the stamina to perform the whole program. Otherwise, he could have scored close to 300 overall in France as usual.

#ShomaUno was down with the flu after #SCI2017. 39C fever from 10/31. In bed for 4 days. He arrived in France on the 10th and is getting back to where he was. 4S will be removed. 3Lo->3A. He needs to get on the podium to go to #GPFNagoya

This Twitter user managed to capture the moment. The look on Shoma's face!

Can definitely see that with this smaller venue, there are some amazing photos fans were able to take because they were so close to the skaters. If I remember correctly, I think Verit was going to be there. If so, she probably got a lot of great photos with that awesome camera of hers!

Hi guys! I missed GS. Recently our dog gave birth to six puppies and passed from old age (we cried a lot). The puppies have to be fed every 3-4 hours, they have been taking most of my time. I watched men SP while feeding the puppies. When the doctor wanted to weigh them, I was asked to give them temporary names. I almost named one of them Shoma but it would be confusing if I say things like 'Shoma just fell into the trash bin from the cage!' or something. I named one of them Yuzuru though, because it had two brown spots that are like wings, reminded me of his Hanyu kanji, I couldn't help it. Well, they are temporary names. Please look at my puppies! https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DO7ZKtFUIAIHToK.jpg https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DO5rkSNVAAAiuI9.jpg

Anyway, I'm proud of Shomachka. It broke my heart how tired and disappointed he looked after FS and how he just flew into Fluffy's arms. It's so great that he always has the best, sweetest coach by his side. Tough fight, you did great job, Shomachka!

I don't know if this has been posted before, but we found the person who threw the cabbage plushie.

I believe she will come with many amazing photos. I mean, just look at this one. This can't be truer. https://twitter.com/asverit/status/931930232931614720

(Btw I tried posting and the forum wouldn't let me because my post contained word 'Shom_o' (Shom_ochka?) whyyyyy)

hi iorii! Thank a lot for sharing Your dog/puppies story. Since there's a dog in my home, I'm overly sensitive over any dogs - seen or told about, sending You a big hug as for the dog passing away and congratulations about puppies!:ghug:

about Shoma...it's always hard to see him disappointed, but I believe it's a part of the process and he just has to embrace it in correct, nurturing way with help of Mihoko and his team. First - he has to REST and re-gain strength physically after that flu to be more ready all-around competition-wise; I only can imagine how hard is to force your body to jump, spin, move at all AND to emote at the same time when you're tired. He was so pale at EX, but still with spark to skate - I think that he should think about that desire/passion in longer perspective to back it up being more healthy and stronger.

I just thought of this competition once more. About the way Shoma fought his way through. How he, in his horrible condition, won the FS and came in second!!! I was so paranoid I thought he would end up somewhere out of the GPF! But he made it. And then....I realized that Shoma has been on the podium in every Grand Prix event of his senior career. He's won 3, he's gotten silver 3 times and has been the bronze medalist in both finals he entered. Who else can say that? What an amazing feat. What an amazing talent. I'm just in awe about what Shoma can do! And there is an arc of suspense this season! It's not he came and dominated and won everything, he comes out of this, I hope with a sense of wanting to prove himself to everyone. He still owns the highest scores this season. Shoma FanFest, I just know this year is going to be his year. All is well!

^^^^ He does have quite a record in his senior career. I wish his detractors would look at the facts and give this young man credit for what he has accomplished. We as his fans
look forward to the rest of the season and onward to Korea with anticipation of what is to come. We will continue to support the Winter Prince. He is an amazing athlete.
