Shoma's collection of medals from this season!

Not just from this season actually. Upper row: the first on the left is definitely from Helsinki, then GPF 2017, then 4CC 2018, then ??? (maybe from the small medal ceremony in Milan?), then Milan 2018. Lower row: Japan nationals and Olys. Not sure about the 4th one from the left in the upper row, but all other medals are sorted in the chronological order.
No gold medals from SK and Lombardia, and no plastic star from France.

So many medals for Shoma - a very successful season that deserves many yummy meals of yakiniku to celebrate!

Yes thats the small medal from Milan, you can see "Milan 2018" at the bottom of the ring of the medal. I wonder why don't they polish the medals to make it more shiny (like the GPF one), matte metal colour for medals look really old.

And yes the Skate Canada glass medal is very nice too, not too flashy with the metal but a more subtle approach. It reminds me of the medals from Albertville!

That looks yummy. The best yakiniku that I've tried in the US is Tsuruhashi in Fountain Valley, CA - I highly recommend Shoma to try it if he goes to next year's 4cc in Anaheim

I would love it if he had small silver studs on his ears and silver nail polish (or black too). That would be hot. Silver is the new Gold for Shoma, but I want him to win gold.

Und nicht nur die 3000 mitgereisten japanischen Fans sind von dieser Schlussminute von Shoma Uno begeistert. Das muss man erstmal machen, Paul. Dreimal auf dem Hosenboden landen, nee viermal und dann auch noch einen Vierfachen zeigen.

P: Ja, er ist dreimal gestürzt, wird aber leider vier Punkte abgezogen bekommen.

D: Ja, vier Punkte natürlich weil es drei stürze sind, worum.

P: Genau. Ja aber wer in der letzten Minute mit drei Sprungelelementen über 30 Punkte einfährt, ja da muss man nichts anderes zu sagen, der gehört einfach zur Weltspitze dazu.

D: Ich würde aber trotzdem eine Verbindung herstellen zu Alina Zagitova gestern weil auch für euch alle war die Saison natürlich wahnsinnig lang.

P: Ja.

D: Eiskunstlauf ist eine der wenigen Sportarten die in einem Olympischen Jahr auch eine Weltmeisterschaft durchführen. Und das ist für die Sportler natürlich eine Riesenbelastung.

P: Ja, ich bin zwar ein Befürworter dafür, nach Olympia noch Weltmeisterschaften zu veranstalten. Die Saison ist sehr, sehr lang und wie gesagt, im Sommer ruhen wir uns ja auch nicht aus, da ist die noch härtere Arbeit eigentlich. Ist ein Ganzjahressport geworden, wie sie vorhin schon sagten.

D: Ja und er hatte wirklich bei den vierfachen keine Chance. Keiner von denen war auch nur ansatzweise gut gelandet. Und noch ein Satz gestern zu Alina Zagitova, die hat eben gestern gezeigt das sie keine Maschine ist. Weil, wenn man sie so ein bisschen beobachtet hat die letzten Monate dachte man, naja, die kann immer abliefern. Die weckte auf mitten in der Nacht und dann macht die ihr Ding. Aber gestern hat sie halt gezeigt, ja ich hab auch Nerven, ich glaube das war gut für die Entwicklung von Alina.

P: Sehe ich genauso, und das schöne ist das man auch sieht, sie ist halt auch nur ein Mensch. Keiner kann immer zu 100% bei jedem Wettkampf sein, und das ist ja auch das schöne und das interessante an unserer Sportart, das jeder Wettkampf bei Null losgeht, alle haben Null Punkte am Anfang und dann wird um die Medaillen gekämpft.

D: Und dann natürlich das hohe Risiko von Alina, erstmal nur choreographische Elemente und Pirouetten zu machen, da hast du natürrlich auch keine Chance wenn was passiert irgendwie wieder in den Rhythmus zu finden, weil du musst dauernd liefern.

P: Ja ist keine Zeit mehr übrig.

D: Ja. Ja, da ist er natürlich weit entfernt von seinen Bestmarken, und dennoch, das kann man natürlich schlecht dem Zuschauer jetzt erklären, wenn einer dreimal auf den Hosenboden fällt und trotzdem in Führung geht.

P: Ja, aber das war halt die letzte Minute einfach wo es nochmal extra Punkte gibt und wenn er da solche Sprünge hinzaubert in einer guten Qualität sind die Punkte da.

D: Ich habe dann so Kollegen aus anderen Sportarten die den Eiskunstlauf nur so nebenbei mal kucken und die sagen dann, kann ja nicht sein, da fällt einer so oft hin und ist trotzdem erster.

P: Ja.

D: Auch wenn wir zwei das erklären können.

EDIT: If you play the video, at 4:30 they show the "Shoma Special" (they actually call it that!). Its three dishes, written in Japanese so I'm not sure what they are.

Now that the off-season is here, it’s great to reflect on what an amazing season of growth, challenges, and improvement this has been for Shoma. Even though our expectations continue to rise for him, he still is able to rise to the occasion and meet these challenges. I measure his success not only in terms of jumps and elements but also in the sum of his technical, artistic, and personal experiences both on and off the ice. Many thanks to the Prince for all his hard work!

--Jumped 4S in competition for the first time at Lombardia.
--Increased the success rate on his jump with rolling 3’s into 4T.
--Had very high success rate on his 3-jump sequence.
--Experienced the difficulties of skating while coping with a nagging injury but was still able to persevere.
--Made great strides in his one-foot skating, especially in his SP.
--Skated in more than 30 off-season ice shows.
--Donated his time and skated at two Glacier Ice Arena ice shows as their special guest.

--Executed his team’s well-thought-out plan to help him peak at the Olys.
--Continued his pattern of grit, determination, and humility.

Thanks for the translation, MaiKatze!! Daniel seems to be an Alina fan, it was sort of weird that he compared Shoma to Alina here. Well, maybe not so weird, since he didn't seem to know of the injury, and pertained to the falls. Paul had good comments, nice to read them! It seems that skaters in general do admire his skating ("a skater's skater", as Kurt Browning said).
