Now that the off-season is here, it’s great to reflect on what an amazing season of growth, challenges, and improvement this has been for Shoma. Even though our expectations continue to rise for him, he still is able to rise to the occasion and meet these challenges. I measure his success not only in terms of jumps and elements but also in the sum of his technical, artistic, and personal experiences both on and off the ice. Many thanks to the Prince for all his hard work!
--Jumped 4S in competition for the first time at Lombardia.
--Increased the success rate on his jump with rolling 3’s into 4T.
--Had very high success rate on his 3-jump sequence.
--Experienced the difficulties of skating while coping with a nagging injury but was still able to persevere.
--Made great strides in his one-foot skating, especially in his SP.
--Skated in more than 30 off-season ice shows.
--Donated his time and skated at two Glacier Ice Arena ice shows as their special guest.
--Worked on skating skills and moves in the field with ice dance coach Romain Haguenauer.
--Worked with choreographer Sam Chouinard.
--Worked with Stephane Lambiel on his “Winter” choreography.
--Trained jumps with jump specialist, Alex Ouriashev.
--Was on the podium at every competition he entered (3 Gold, 5 Silver)
--Broke 100 in the SP at Lombardia, SC, GPF, 4CC, Oly Team Event, and Oly Individual.
--Scored over 200 in the FS at Lombardia and the Oly Individual.
--Was in the 300 Club at Lombardia, SC, and the Olys.
--Played an important role for Team Japan in the team event competitions, Japan Open and Olys. He helped Japan win the bronze at the Japan Open and scored the highest score in the Men’s SP at the Oly Team Event.
--Fought hard in the important battle against his own nerves.
--Executed his team’s well-thought-out plan to help him peak at the Olys.
--Continued his pattern of grit, determination, and humility.
--Proved to be very adept at handling the media. Putting aside the jokes about his sleepiness, we can see that his answers to questions are well thought out, and he refuses to be baited by the media.
--He received an important sponsorship from Toyota. Continued his sponsorships with Colan Totte and
Chukyo University.
--He turned 20 and had his ceremony for officially becoming an adult.
--He gave us a mystery we may never solve. Who was the lucky recipient here?!
