Gahhhhhhhhhh. Did so good I can't speak.

Hearing Shoma speak to Stephane in English...no energy, single toe loop.

Steph saying it was a joy for everyone who watched it. I'm joyful.

4 quads...you did 4 quads. Shoma says I have no memory..

Says hello to Toro...I'm dead.

That was just absolutely hilarious and gutsy and full of happiness. I am so, so proud of Shoma. Nailing the quads and solving his problems on the fly calmly. It's truly incredible just how much he has grown physically and mentally.

Congratulations on your silver and 7th straight podium finish at Nationals Shoma!!

Wasn't that beautiful to see? Happiness wins the day....

Love Stephane's comments in the Kiss & Cry. He has helped Shoma so much. Congrats to our dear boy on his silver medal. Love his grit, guts, and heart! I had to laugh with that single jump he tacked onto the 4T. This was reminiscent of last year's Uno flip!...Seemed so weird with the subdued support instead of the normally super enthusiastic and encouraging audience. Oh, listen to Sho say "I am happy". Hooray!

This reaction after the free skate is just ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Shoma struggled technically in this competition but the way he faced each hurdle so positively and calmly was really amazing. Calmly holding together the SP after the missed combo, and today it was both guts and serenity as he fought to get the quad toes out in the FS while staying on his feet. I'm really impressed and proud of his physical and mental state right now.

I just... Shoma's in the right place, with the right people. However the future will shake out, I can't ask for more. I can't really describe my joy right now. It's almost strange to feel so happy when he didn't win or have perfect skates 😆

Aaa congrats to the Prince!!! :points:
I loved that performance even though it was not perfect and his reaction at the end said everything. It must be tough to compete after such a long break when you’re used to compete a lot and bc of that I was super nervous but he did so well! The 4S looks much better than last year imo 😀 He’s on the right track

LOVED the K&C
That was a great Christmas gift ❤️🎄

I couldn't be happier!! Shoma just radiated joy the entire time and the way he yolo'd that 4T1T was just amazing 😂😂 I'm so proud of him and grateful to have been able to witness his growth!! And we still have MOI coming up! ❤️❤️❤️

I noticed his big smile after the last jumping pass. His training has helped him to think on the fly and it worked.

It was a triumph just to be out there but for all of these men to do so well by the present standards is remarkable.

Happy, happy.

Awwwww Shoma is so cute today. He seems very happy
I am such a big fan of him.

I'm not happy with the scores though its too low
He can do so much better... TBH I expected more from his training with Lambiel (but they are so cute together :love2:).
I miss the intensity in his eyes, He used to have that intense stare during the start of his programs.

In my post above (#16986), he says "I am happy!" If he is happy, I am happy. :love2: He has already improved with Stephane so much. Just the fact that he kept his cool and rearranged his jumps when he had a few difficulties showed how calm he was. Even if the killer instinct isn't visible in his eyes, I believe it's always in his heart! :points: Even his English is getting better! :points::dbana:

I'm proud of Shoma's performance during this competition; he is a true fighter and I was happy to see him looking so happy after the FS :)

Sometimes I wonder if Shoma could benefit from working with a sports psychologist. I feel like Shoma knows what to do as shown during his practices, but sometimes he lets nerves or negative thoughts creep in during the actual competition. I follow a lot of different sports and so many top athletes use sports psychologists to help them get in the right mindset to perform at their best when it counts. Assuming Shoma has never tried it in the past, it could be worth a go.

That's a good idea, Iceroller. But I don't know, I think psychologists have generalized procedures which they try to teach and transfer to their clients. Since there is such unique art involved in Shoma Uno's skating style, I don't know if he could really profit by it or, to the contrary, loose some of his uniqueness. But it could be worth a trial, why not.

I thought about your suggestion as well on the sports psychologist front, @Iceroller . I do think Shoma can benefit from being more laser-focused on the win and peak properly during competitions, but like @Matthew said, Shoma's a bit unique and part of his uniqueness in my opinion is that sometimes there are other things he value more than the win in competitions.

I know that probably indicates a lack of killer instinct in Shoma's part but I also think it's what enabled him to react joyfully like he did after a free skate that didn't win him a gold medal nor was it flawless. I follow top athletes and I do admit Shoma's character is different. While that difference is what made him the most compelling skater to me, I understand the desire to see him achieve more 😆

I do think his current coach will have something to say about Shoma's focus during competitions, and if there's something I learned from their current partnership is that Shoma takes Stephane's advices in good consideration. Hopefully he'll be able to attend more competitions so we can see how he grows more from here.

yawning_shoma on Twitter translated Shoma's post-FS interviews, and it was pretty good to read so I'll link it here:

Lots of good and thoughtful stuff. The part where he goes on about this is "the happiest I've ever been about being competing" made me laugh because, well, he really showed it out there. I don't think I've ever enjoyed following a competition where he has issues with his jump as much as this one. His happiness is infectious.
