One of the biggest honors of all -- Sho as seen by our favorite Doodler! Thx for the kind words too.

Annnn! I am so glad to see you!!!!!

I am soooo happy with Shoma and Stephane, for everyone who has been supporting for him.

His interview after NHK was impressive. He has changed. Now he lives in Europe? Living in an environment that he had not been familiar with must be so meaningful.

Do you remember we talked about his going to overseas coaches long long ago? For him, you wanted him to go abroad, but finding coaches, his characters seemed to make it very difficult. We could not expect Stephane, and now, it is so fruitful relationship!

And I am soooo happy to see NHK cup, full audiences, warm claps to every skater, beautiful kiss & cry, interior...
Last year it was a domestic competition.
Now again it becomes an international competition!

Did you go to Skate America?

OMG Vilya, I love your sense of humor!
Ahahahah I'm glad you like it! 😆

Wow, our own Vilya is an artist! Are there more where that came from?

Idk if I can call myself an artist but I do like to draw and paint! 😂 I usually post them on my Twitter, I mostly do pencil sketches and when the stars align also digital paintings, like these

I have most of them posted here too - I just forget to update it often 😆

Thank you, Vilya. They are all so beautiful! Gives me something to gaze at to remember this weekend until the GPF!

I translated the german Eurosport commentary of Shoma's programs, for those of you who are interested. Commentator is Sigi Heinrich on his own this time. All mistakes are mine.

German Eurosport, SP Oboe Concerto, NHK Trophy 2021

Sigi Heinrich:

WarmUp:

Well, this is, one is allowed to say it like that, I believe, one of our favourites, Shoma Uno from Japan. Second at the PyeongChang Olympics behind Yuzuru Hanyu, two times second at World Championships, lately two times fourth at World Championships, Shoma Uno, the protégé of Stéphane Lambiel, by now.

Short program:

So, because Yuzuru Hanyu skips this Grand Prix season, because of injury, he is the clear Number One, crowd favourite in Japan, Shoma Uno.

Beaten in Las Vegas, by Vincent Zhou, by the way, who is leading at the moment, he won't have missed this, Shoma Uno the protégé of Stéphane Lambiel, World Champion 2005 and 2006 and Olympic Silver Medal winner also in Torino 2006.

He's chosen an Oboe Concert.

And the Quadruple Flip, he puts it down, like a plank!

Boah!

Ah, only a double toeloop, not a triple. First one was a quadruple, clearly.

The duel with Vincent Zhou continues, Shoma Uno.

Good, eh, the triple toe loop after the quadruple, he can confidently accept this as an 'on the job' accident, that is possible. But there are, of course, his landings at the first quadruple jump, the flip, or the triple Axel, that have to create excitement actually, they are phenomenal.

He is standing like a Number One here, and the runout! Gentlemen! Gorgeous! Without any difficulties whatsoever.

Here he is received by Stéphane Lambiel, 2019 he went to him to Switzerland. 2019 was the year Shoma Uno had an athletic low point and Stéphane Lambiel brought him back on track nicely. This is something the Swiss should be recognised for, as a big achievement.

Still leading, still leading is Shoma Uno (sic! He means Vincent) who has beaten him in Las Vegas. But it is absolutely possible that Shoma Uno will now earn over 100 points.

Presumably the program components of Vincent Zhou will now actually be the measure of all things - possibly.

But Shoma Uno, of course, has a big name, the second of the PyeongChang Olympics.

He's just simply one who, when he is on the ice, when you see him, how he approaches the task, there is joy in watching him, joy in following him.

It might not be that easy for Shoma Uno, to live here, in Switzerland, to train, far from home, but perhaps it's also this cultural change that, hehehe, that might have created new charms.

And you never know, how this, how this injury, how deep it is with Yuzuru Hanyu.

Shoma Uno versus Vincent Zhou, that is the battle that is fought here and at the moment he is one step ahead, Shoma Uno with 102,58 against Vincent Zhou.

And the LP. :)

German Eurosport, LP Bolero, NHK Trophy 2021

Sigi Heinrich:

Warmup: And Shoma Uno he has to replace Yuzuru Hanyu in some ways, because the japanese superstar of figure skating is injured, like I mentioned. The Flip, the quadruple flip quite late, he will get an extra bonus for that. Shoma Uno, by now he is insanely popular in Japan. Second at the PyeongChang Olympics. He's been second at Worlds twice as well, World fourth twice and he was second at the Grand Prix competition in Las Vegas, behind Vincent Zhou by the way, that is the duel it's going to be here as well, Shoma Uno versus Zhou.

Start Shoma:

He's been japanese Champion four times already, by now he's the protégé of Swiss World Champion 2005 and 2006, that's the way it is. 2006 he also won silver at the Olympics, I'm talking about Stéphane Lambiel, of course.

Bolero by Maurice Ravel, happens to be reborn once again.

Phew, what a start. The loop, obviously quadruple.

Ho...like a beater. Phew, I have goosebumps, really...i have goosebumps. It is unfathomable.

And the Toeloop only double, forget it!

The runout of the Axel, always fascinating with him.

Then the first big mistake. Instead of a Quad, Double. The Flip. But there is one more arrow in the quiver.

Shoma Uno, there is still a tad bit more air at the top - even though the air is incredibly thin up there. (This is hard to translate, it's a specific idiom...basically saying that there is room for improvement, but he's almost there)

Grand, grand, this little man from Japan.

Yes, that he's getting standing ovations, I can understand, if my chair wouldn't be so comfortable, I would also stand up! But he has to orientate himself on the best skaters so far this season.

Vincent Zhou has won, 295 points in Las Vegas. Nathan Chen won Skate Canada in Vancouver with 307 points, and Kagiyama fellow country man of Shoma Uno in Torino 278 points. So the 300 points of Nathan Chen basically have to be the benchmark for someone like Shoma Uno and that is what he's aiming for in fact. But of course he never reached 300 points in his career. If everything would come together, everything, then yes it is possible, no question. For Nathan Chen it worked in Vancouver, everything short program, long program without any mistakes.

The first one who always broke all sound barriers, that was, by the way, Yuzuru Hanyu. 100 points in the short, 200 points in the free. 300 points altogether. In everything Yuzuru Hanyu was always the first. Uno is not that far away.

I thought it was great! Bolero is a big classic in the figure skating scene, since Torvill/Dean of course, who had to shorten the Bolero, which isn't easy, because the piece is much longer than the time you have for a free program.

Stéphane Lambiel with his trenchcoat, which has kind of become his trademark. Shoma Uno is with him in Switzerland and trains there, since 2019. So, 187 points, 290 altogether. So he is quite near to Nathan Chen, who is of course the best American, but he got less points than Vincent Zhou at Skate America. Vincent Zhou not convincing in the free tonight, but in the short he was, here we can see the American.

Yes, still a great achievement, outstanding performance and then Stéphane Lambiel can, I believe, be very happy to be able to train this Shoma Uno now, it is almost an honour!

And 300 points were possible today.

slander! :drama: ...no, not really. I'm sure the commentator is only referencing scores since the GOE changes and record reset, haha. But we know. ;)

(...it's six times, to be precise. I just had to go check. Including two incredible competitions where that only got him second! Worlds 2017 and of course the Olympics)

Thank you so much for translating, @MaiKatze ! It's always extra special to hear these reports that I could never access by myself!

Hamaguri??!!! So good to "see" you!!!!! Oh how I remember our MANY conversations about him training overseas!!!! How would he ever leave his beloved Japan? Who would coach him? Would he go by himself? Could he continue to skate without injuries? Would Team Yamada be broken hearted if and when he left?

(Note: For those of you who don't know hamaguri, she is a long-time Shoma fan who was posting in his Fan Fest as long ago as 2015 and did many translations for us non-speakers of Japanese. )

Yes, I had a wonderful time at Sk Amer and was so happy to see him there after not being there since 2016. 2018 Sk Canada in Montreal was his last GP in North America. Wow. Our little 17 year old teenager has grown up right in front of our eyes, right? Now he's a handsome (almost) 24 year old.

Hope you are well and can continue to support our Prince. Throughout all his challenges, he has been a warrior!

Here's a great, OLD photo of Sho and Vincent. This is definitely Sho's old face! How different he looks! Taken in 2015 when he is about to compete at the 2015 GPF.

So adorable! haha, for the past few years I have not watched FS so much, and during that time, boys have grown so much!
Nam, Junfan, Vincent... I was like, fuaaaa! The boys around these age get matured so fast!

Yes, I have heard a long ago the system of GS has been different, and have not come here for a long time. Now I only go to Shoma thread, but it seems the same as before! And me myself also have not watched FS.

The combination is fantastic! Unfortunately, for pandemic restriction, he cannot go to Europe and the instruction is online, but as long as I see their NHK, it seems fine. According to tne of the articles which I have read, Stephane's strong will to make him a champion has changed Shoma a lot. He says he got to want to respond to his expectation. Don't you see the influence of Stephane so much? Movement, posture... When I was in Japan, I sometimes went to ice shows, and Stephane was always there. His way of moving head, using his hair... Shoma's ex really reminded me of Stephane. Of course, in competition program, I see Stephane sometimes. Shoma has improved so much. Of course originally he was insane, but now more and more.

Thank you for your warm instruction! I cannot fully enough express how much I was so delighted to see some names which I know...Through such worldwide occasion, still now we are together. It is nothing but a miracle...

Oh, you went to Skate America! Ok! I will go back to the previous posts!

Yes! He has matured so much in physically as well as mentally. His interviews make me so surprised. His way of speaking, vocabulary, tone of voice... They are very different from before. To see his strong determination to fight for a champion is amazing.

OMG! OMG! Now I have found an amazing video, the collaboration of Shoma and Stephane at the ice show of FOI (Shizuka's show).
It was in 2018, right after Olympics, so no one expected that later they would work together.
It chills me so much. The piece is the four seasons, winter, and the choreography is Mihoko-sensei. Incredible beauty.
When I watched Stephane, he was always special on ice. Here Shoma was not overtaken!. Really the artistic performance by two men.
For someone interested in it!

That performance is a jewel, isn't it?! I remember several of Shoma's comments -- he said he really, really didn't want to fall during their skate. He talked about how Stephane is so good at everything he does! Someone joked and said they are so in sync with each other that maybe they ought to think about skating pairs together! :laugh2:
