It's nice that Shoma won the bronze, but I'm honestly rather gutted to see the less than perfect performance...
Did I do enough as a fan to support him? Was it really all worth it? Questions like that are running through my mind.
I just wish I could protect him from all of the haters out there who I know are going to attack him because their favorite didn't get a medal...![]()
Well said! His life has been a total upheaval the last few years. Leaving his lifelong coach, moving to Switzerland, new coach, new training environment, new language. Whew! I'm exhausted just thinking about it. He can hold his head high. Going home with 2 medals! He also gave 2 very good performances of his SP. Winning with a perfect performance is always great, but winning ugly (?) is still winning!!!! There was still a lot to like about the performance, even though the jumps weren't his best. How about that split jump?! Where did that come from!He fought for it. The less than perfect performance was fitting, in my opinion- because it truly represents his last four years... messy, chaotic, with him barely hanging on but hanging on with all his might until the end nevertheless. It's been a long journey. And if what he has went through is any indication... he doesn't need our protection at all, he'll just live his life the best he can.
He kept fighting and never lost the power of the performance. I am proud to be his fan!

Well said!I think what really touched me is Shoma allowing himself to be happy, even after the messy free skate. I have seen him kick himself down despite literally finishing first and winning gold medals... so to see him like this, obviously disappointed that he isn't able to skate to a certain level that will make his coach happy, but also recognizing his journey in the last four years and letting himself cherish this achievement...
It's all I can ask as a fan. Truly. Because Shoma has brought me so much happiness with his skating... all I want, when I first decided to follow him, was for him to at least be as happy as I am when I watch him skate.

Did you guys see how enthusiastically Shoma cheered for Nathan?? I thought he was supposed to be the least emotive of the Japanese triple threat, goodness! Haha.Shoma looked so happy in the backstage where the top 3 waited for Nathan to finish. They're now there together and so happy for them all. Nathan, Yuma, Shoma. It was a long week for them all.
He doesn't worry about this and neither should you. People have been beating him up online since forever. He's used to it. He even said he doesn't care about the opinions of people who don't even know him. He cares about those who know him personally. Just enjoy theI just wish I could protect him from all of the haters out there who I know are going to attack him because their favorite didn't get a medal...![]()
Just saw this on Twitter. I think they should cancel the gala. How many people will be there. In 2018 Sho flew home for a week. Seems with Covid they should skip it. Interesting that Vincent is listed.I am late to the party. Congratulations lovely Shoma. The fighting spirit never leaves you.
Is the gala happening with Covid? I can't imagine how dull it will be for Shoma being confined to his room until then.
Funny you would mention that. I was just looking at these photos. He looks like he's trying out to be head cheerleader!Did you guys see how enthusiastically Shoma cheered for Nathan?? I thought he was supposed to be the least emotive of the Japanese triple threat, goodness! Haha.
