Congrats Shoma so happy for him!!!! After all he has been through these past few years it just heartwarming to see him rewarded❤️. He said in the interview that he made mistakes because he was nervous but he was very happy that he was able to win Bronze. Of course he had his mask on but his eyes were smiling as he spoke.

It's nice that Shoma won the bronze, but I'm honestly rather gutted to see the less than perfect performance...

Did I do enough as a fan to support him? Was it really all worth it? Questions like that are running through my mind.

I just wish I could protect him from all of the haters out there who I know are going to attack him because their favorite didn't get a medal... :(

I don't have the answers to your questions, @yuumagical , but I will leave you with Shoma's answers here:

He fought for it. The less than perfect performance was fitting, in my opinion- because it truly represents his last four years... messy, chaotic, with him barely hanging on but hanging on with all his might until the end nevertheless. It's been a long journey. And if what he has went through is any indication... he doesn't need our protection at all, he'll just live his life the best he can.

Well said! His life has been a total upheaval the last few years. Leaving his lifelong coach, moving to Switzerland, new coach, new training environment, new language. Whew! I'm exhausted just thinking about it. He can hold his head high. Going home with 2 medals! He also gave 2 very good performances of his SP. Winning with a perfect performance is always great, but winning ugly (?) is still winning!!!! There was still a lot to like about the performance, even though the jumps weren't his best. How about that split jump?! Where did that come from! :laugh2: He kept fighting and never lost the power of the performance. I am proud to be his fan! :thank:

I think what really touched me is Shoma allowing himself to be happy, even after the messy free skate. I have seen him kick himself down despite literally finishing first and winning gold medals... so to see him like this, obviously disappointed that he isn't able to skate to a certain level that will make his coach happy, but also recognizing his journey in the last four years and letting himself cherish this achievement...

It's all I can ask as a fan. Truly. Because Shoma has brought me so much happiness with his skating... all I want, when I first decided to follow him, was for him to at least be as happy as I am when I watch him skate.

Let's not forget Shoma's overall amazing performances too ! Both SPs at these games with the great 4flips and happy Stéphane Combos.

I never thought I would say this but I even enjoyed his Bolero. SHOLERO was awesome ! Every time Shoma picks up some music, he knows how to make it his own. Shoma communicates his passion so well through his connection with the music at all times. I am fine with imperfect Shoma, especially if it makes him feel like he has to work more :) I'd be glad to see him in Montreal in 2 years ;)

Well said!
I geek out sometimes about the numbers, but they're not what make me his fan and they're not all that life (or skating) is about!

*clears throat* and, on the geeking out about numbers side, his total score (293 even, isn't that fun?) is still a personal best since the 2018 scoring change.
Oh! And I just noticed that his short program personal best (from both the team and individual events... :D) actually topped his pre-2018 best! Of course we're not really meant to compare those, but I think all the world records are still lower in this era? So that's actually extra impressive :p

Shoma looked so happy in the backstage where the top 3 waited for Nathan to finish. They're now there together and so happy for them all. Nathan, Yuma, Shoma. It was a long week for them all.
Did you guys see how enthusiastically Shoma cheered for Nathan?? I thought he was supposed to be the least emotive of the Japanese triple threat, goodness! Haha.

Annnd now I'm already excited for Worlds. I expect Shoma is still planning to compete there. (And will he stay in Beijing in the meantime? Will they still get practice time on the ice when their event is over? Will he be spotted cheering for other athletes or stay in his room playing video games 100% of the time? And will someone direct me to the Twitter/Instagram/Tumblr thread of Sho Spottings if he does emerge?)

But wait, we haven't even had the medal ceremony yet! 😂

He doesn't worry about this and neither should you. People have been beating him up online since forever. He's used to it. He even said he doesn't care about the opinions of people who don't even know him. He cares about those who know him personally. Just enjoy the

🎢 ride. Nathan and Yuma will get plenty of bashing too. Meanwhile, the three medalists will show others what sportsmanlike conduct looks like.

I am late to the party. Congratulations lovely Shoma. The fighting spirit never leaves you.
Is the gala happening with Covid? I can't imagine how dull it will be for Shoma being confined to his room until then.
Just saw this on Twitter. I think they should cancel the gala. How many people will be there. In 2018 Sho flew home for a week. Seems with Covid they should skip it. Interesting that Vincent is listed.

Congratulations Shomajesty! 🥉

I was worried he might miss out on a medal and O really wanted him to get one...and he did!

How can you not love Shoboe and Sholéro? Quality programs and Shoma is such a lovely skater.

Looking forward to the medal ceremony, hope he's more alert this time and can enjoy it

I can only be ecstatic in the result for Shoma because following him the last four years, THIS result makes him happy, the happiest I've ever seen him. Backstage he was jumping in his seat for his competitors but also for his place amongst the best knowing he isn't done this year or in the future. I think he'll work hard to give Bolero the credit that it and he deserves. IMO, Shoma's pure skating skills are the best but we can't deny Nathan's powerhouse technical & performance skills or Yuma's, that are just developing.

Now to go hunt down photos of the medal ceremony. Three time medal winner. Just love him for his respect for the sport and competitors.

Funny you would mention that. I was just looking at these photos. He looks like he's trying out to be head cheerleader!

ohhh I just watched the clip of the medal ceremony (on PeacockTV, US streaming) and I think I figured it out. He also had his hand over his heart for the US anthem... he must be becoming a US citizen!

ah, of course I'm kidding, but I wonder why he did that? Just copying Nathan, or maybe his heart felt full and it just seemed fitting? A sweet gesture either way, I'm sure 🥰
