I thought I read somewhere that Steph told him in the first half he looked really worried? nervous? and he was sort of teasing him. I know we've all been reading so much stuff I'd probably never be able to find the comments again. He got off to a shaky start, so I understand the look on his face. However, he did get better and better as things went along!
I just watched this

So from what I could hear it was something like "Your face was so tight up here" etc.
A fun remark about not using the face/cheeks as much as he could/should I'd say.

I'm amazed about how he just sees it all, counting with the spins, noticing every little detail/mistake in steps, seeing the overall picture and watching the cheeks

I read that Shoma had made some diplomatic remarks about the team selection for World's. It appears that he is not totally happy with the selection. Is this because Koshiro isn't going to World's?

I wondered how the new costume would look on the ice. I got my answer. Kakkoii!!!! :points: :cheer::cheer2::hap10: Shomajesty, you continue to dominate the best-dressed list. Perfect for Padam Padam. Maybe a little restrictive for Mea Shomenta?!...Couldn't help but wonder if we were watching next year's SP here.

I would like to say something about Shoma's choreography of mea tormenta as well as padam padam. Of course, it's a joy to see him skating these two programs, and it's always striking that there is rarely another skater who can perform such densely choreographed and artistic programs. What catches my eyes are these two kneelings, one in each program. For me, they are too much, not authentic and kitschy, and don't suit the rest of the programs. I suppose they are additions of Lambiel, since he is and has been kitschy to some extent in several of his programs. In the past, Shoma's choreographers haven't had such lapses, fortunately, and I hope we won't see much of them in the future, too.

I think it you go back a few posts, you'll see where I said I LOVED the kneeling move that was added in Mea Shomenta. To me, it fits perfectly and is better than just straight skating. No clue who added it. I love the knee slides in Padam Padam. This program was choreographed by Sho's former coach, Mihoko Higuchi. I doubt that Stephane had anything to do with the kneeling. It reminds me a little of the knee slide in Sho's step sequence in his Stairway to Heaven program, choreographed by Mihoko for Sho's 18-19 season...Just goes to sho(w) how we all prefer something different.

Well, what I didn't mention since I think it's all clear is that these knee slides (better notion than kneeling, thanks) were added just at the GPF, didn't exist before. So, I've assumed that they were later additions from another person than the original choreographer. For me, they express something like "false humility", are - to repeat - too much. The knee slides from the stairway to heaven program was more energetical.

I wouldn't be surprised if Shoma added it. Whatever.

Shoma actually mentioned that after NHK Trophy and before GPF, he and the original choreoprapher Kenji Miyamoto worked together on the FS including tweaking some of the choreography in Nagoya. So it's likely that the new kneeling choreo is made by Kenji, even though there is no confirmation on that.

You can see him and Kenji working here, from 2:20 until the end of the video. It's a video from 22 November 2022, so it was done immediately after Shoma finished NHK Trophy:

He didn't say the reason beyond he doesn't know / doesn't understand the selection criteria for Worlds and is unhappy. Olympics Twitter has a video with English subs but their subtitles have always been very simple compared to the nuance Japanese words may have, but I will link it here just for consideration and reference. Several writers (including for Olympics) have interpreted Shoma's unhappiness due to Koshiro not being selected for Worlds but Shoma himself didn't name any names.

Also, this Padam Padam is the best he's ever skated it. It's just so enchanting.

That suit... Shoma, please skate Gravity with it... it fits him like a glove.
