It was Grespi for SOI Day 2 at Oshu! Shoma is still doing 2A and 3S, which is good. Probably the best set of long twizzles he incorporated in Grespi, those Gravity drills really showing its results 😆

Part 2 of Shoma's talk with the pro gamer he idolizes, Shogun, is here:

They talked about a lot of things both related to Smash Bros and figure skating. shomagravity on Twitter translated some parts of it:

Yaaay, I hope you enjoyed the parfait at Nagoya Tokyo Hotel @yuumagical ! Really enjoying your Nagoya Sho-stories, please keep them coming!
I really enjoyed the parfait! Sorry I didn't make my enjoyment clearer earlier. 😅 I'd love to come back another time for a different parfait; this month's Easter Bunny parfait looks incredibly cute and delicious. 😋

It's Grespi again for Day 3 at Oshu! At first I wondered why Shoma repeats Grespi for 2 days straight, but then I watched Padam Padam from Day 1 at Oshu and it seems that Grespi is a lot easier to capture on camera, compared to silky, slippery Padam 😅 I think the cameramen were not ready for how smooth it was, with a lot of blurred shots trying to catch Shoma... still beautiful, though.

re: googling names
I wonder if Shoma could find this FF here when using latin letters and what he would discover through translation machines 🤣

Here we are two weeks after Worlds, and I still can’t let go of those fabulous performances given by Sho. As I watched Sho’s performance of the SP, I realized that the commentary that was done during the six minute warm-up group and after his skate was just as interesting as during the performance. These are the remarks that were made by Terry, Johnny, and Tara during Gravity. It makes me so happy to hear that his incredible skating skills are so appreciated! After watching him for so long, I think I start to take his amazing skating skills for granted! Sho, you skated like the two-time World Champion that you are!

Terry: And out there is Shoma Uno, reigning World Champion, two-time Oly medalist, undefeated all season, no doubt the favorite coming in here.

Johnny: And father of dragons (LOL). That was so many accolades, Terry!

Terry: I can keep going if you want me to.

Johnny: Shoma is a wonderful combination of technical brilliance and artistic loveliness. That will be his advantage in this competition with Ilia Malinin. He has said all season that Ilia and his technical abilities are pushing him, but he knows who he is. He knows his blades are an extension of his body. He oozes into the ice. The jumps kind of come out of nowhere in his choreography.

Tara: I love the John Mayer SP. It is SO exciting to watch him jump and also be able to blend into his artistic, dynamic, exciting performance. There is no one quite like Shoma. He has such a unique style.

Terry: Interesting his comments about Ilia. We could talk about what motivates him. He has directly talked about it and said “The first time I went up against Ilia Malinin, he was far more skilled than me and that thrilled and motivated me. He is actually better than me. He is going to dominate.”

Tara: Athletes like to be pushed. It’s good to have someone who is so good that he’s pushing you to be your best – to try things you never thought you’d try before. It makes skating better!
--------
Terry: Suffice it to say, this is the man most came to see in Saitama.

Johnny: He deserves every accolade we throw at him Terrence. He’s wonderful…This SP is a thing of beauty, a wonderful combination of artistry and tech, opening with a 4F.

Tara: Look at that GOE, over 3 points. Well deserved. The landing, so “buttery”. Pillowy, deep edges. Watch how he skates into these jumps with so much speed. DEEP knee bend. 4T-2T. It’s these moments right here. His edge work but also the push and pull of his body like an ocean wave. That’s where he has it over Ilia, in the component score.

Johnny: Bravo times three million for that SP. Absolutely stunning. He was DEEP into the ice. Deep into his music. Deep into his knees. I mean, so impressive. The experience he has had helps him to be comfortable on the ice. Stephane has worked so hard on his polish and finish. Oh, that was gorgeous from start to finish. This could be a new Personal Best for him. It was that good.
______
Tara: The way he handled the pressure – watch on the 4F, the deep knee bend, how he holds that edge, getting right back into the choreography. The position of his feet in the air. The nice bounce he gets into the air. The camera can’t even keep watch of his feet! So explosive and dynamic. I’m sure he didn’t watch Ilia’s performance, but he had to know Ilia was going to probably lay down something very technically difficult, and he matched it.

Johnny: What I love is how he engages every single muscle. You can see in the close ups of his hands – the passion that flows all the way through his fingertips. He pushes all the way through his toes when he takes off and lands. That comfort and that push into the ice is what makes him so exceptional. Yes, there’s musicality, the technical, precision, but it’s that one-ness he has with the ice that makes him so jaw dropping.

I was honestly thinking of posting this commentary too... Although I usually find the American broadcast team to be annoying, they always seem to say nice things about Shoma! I really appreciate their way of appreciating how Shoma interprets music. "Father of Dragons" is now right up there with "Pocket Rocket" in the list of Shoma superlatives, lol. (Did anyone ever call him that back in 2016??? Lol, it's from an NBC broadcast back then.) Sadly I didn't record the men's free skate (I don't think it was on my TV's schedule before I left for Japan). Do you happen to have the NBC commentary for the free skate as well? Thanks.

Yes, I still have the free skate, but I want to listen to it again. It was just by chance that I realized how much they talked about Sho during the 6 minute group warm up of the SP. Actually, I'll bet the fans of other skaters weren't too happy about that. They really focused almost completely on Sho. LOL. At a certain point, they were starting to run out of superlatives...I'll listen to the FS again tomorrow and see if it has content that's any different from this. Sigh. My superhero! 🏅

Kurt Browning called Sho Pocket Rocket in 2016. He called him a magician too!

And just after I asked that, I realized that NBCSports posted Shoma's free skate on YouTube...😅 The commentary there doesn't seem to be that much different from what has already been said, though the remark about Shoma being late to practice sessions due to playing video games is hilarious. 😂 Definitely worthy of sharing with the non-US folks.

Very busy schedule coming up for our Prince. He needs to rest a little :bed: and eat a lot of niku to fortify himself. San Demi-san please keep your massage fingers ready! :thank:

phew.. when will be time for new programs 😅
There's a nice long gap between mid-June and late July...🤔

Now I'm wondering where Shoma’s going to go for GP assignments next season! NHK is a given, so I think it might come down to Canada vs. France again for the other assignment...🤔

Edit: Cup of China is possible too, but for some reason I think it's unlikely that he'll go there. 🤔

The interview with the gamer Shogun, when Shoma said he doesn't see himself competing until the next Olympics...does this mean that the upcoming season may be his last? I really hope not. What would we do without our marvellous Shoma lighting up the ice? I am worried by this. 😪
I'm not too worried, even though I do think his competitive career don't have much years left in it. Shoma has always been someone who thinks that the Olympics is no different than the other competitions, and not a special big competition that is his ultimate goal in his career. So what I take from his interview is that, regardless of whether he's going to continue competing or not, the Olympics will not be his raison d'etre to do so. So that can be taken either way, stopping before the Olympics or even continuing after 😅

I'm already wondering if I'll be packing my bags for Canada or France. Canada is certainly easier, but wherever he is going, I'm going! We know it won't be Sk America (which is rumored to be going back to Vegas BTW) since Ilia will be there. I kind of doubt he would do China. Oh, possibly Finland too, right?

Adding: Fin!and probably wouldn't work because it's the week before NHK. So it DOES look like Sk Can or France. This is assuming he gets NHK
