I love Shoma's skating in EEAAO (not sure if the acronym is correct). But I am a bit baffled by the music. It sounds a bit of a mash up. I am fervently hoping it grows on me. Can anyone enlighten on where this music is from?

Be ready for a little (?) strangeness if you watch it. Have a snack handy. 🍔 I'm wondering what the costume will be!

Meanwhile back at The Ice, the boys are having fun.

It's the Everything Everywhere All at Once soundtrack by Son Lux!

The following tracks were used in order: I Love You, Clair de Lune (Pied au Piano), I Love You Kung Fu.

Sho did a new NOW VOICE yesterday where he made some interesting comments about expression. Thank you to feimeicheng for her translation.

"I found the reason why I couldn't pick any of my past works as masterpiece is because I didn't let my own emotions involved in my skating. I just expressed by my body in the way I felt about the music. After one month of doing rehearsals for OPOI, since I have to act and move like Luffy, this new experience helps a lot for me to release my emotions for the character and it seems to set a good influence on my performances at "The Ice". I used to search for the "Correct Answer" for artistry which is actually not available. Like, Daisuke has his way of expressing and I have mine. So after all, what I aimed for is something more like a self satisfaction to the extreme than a final answer. But I am willing to keep working on this for self satisfaction."
(my words) I'm so glad OPOI is providing a great learning experience for Sho. Sounds like it is a really good motivation for him!
Shoma... such a perfectionist and really, a true artist.

I love that he realized that there is no "correct answer" for artistry. I think you can't really define it, artistry just keeps evolving and growing especially when you're like Shoma, who continues to grow and develop as he gets older and gets more life experience and continues to move forward in his skating career. Of course fans will have their own preferences and favorites, but something that's a fan favorite doesn't necessarily mean the peak of artistry and vice versa. There are fans who think Shoma only skates to classical music and are blown away when they found Gravity or DOMO. There are fans who think Shoma only skates to slow lyrical pieces and are surprised by Great Spirit and Legends. His versatility and openness to try new things are essential strengths to continue pursuing higher heights of artistry.

I know Shoma admires Daisuke so much, but Daisuke has his own way of expression on ice and Shoma has his own way that's unique to himself. That's exactly what makes Shoma so successful and compelling to me- despite admiring his seniors, he does things in a very distinct way and therefore never fully fell into the trap of being a pale imitation of other skaters. I'm really glad that he finally realized this.

So I'm super excited to see how far Shoma can go, and I hope he doesn't reach self satisfaction too early 😆 Honestly, I am really grateful that he got the opportunity to skate ONE PIECE on Ice because I think after last season, he really needed more inspiration and motivation, and it seems that this particular show pushes him to do things he's never done before, to act as a character and really tap into his emotions and express them so openly. And he mentioned in the NOW VOICE that he's having fun every day, which is great.

Stephane: the stretch of the left leg in front of the body while gliding backwards at 1:28.
Yes. I love that we're seeing some new moves. The mini spiral, bestie squat into the spread eagle, some unusual hops, and more stuff that I'd have to rewatch to write down. That's just what I can remember off the top of my head.

I like to imagine how training must have been for the two. Stéphane trying patiently to get Shoma doing all the details and constantly reminding him to not skip a movement

It’s so interesting to read this, because although I know Shoma looks up to Dai and I love them both as skaters, I was actually thinking that Come Together is the first time I’ve really seen Daisuke’s influence in Shoma’s movements, haha. Obviously a lot of that is choreography and Shae-Lynn challenging Shoma with different kinds of body movements/more specific articulations (I love it when Shae choreographs for Shoma, she gives him way more intense/energetic music like Great Spirit, it’s such a fun change up) but it also sounds like Shoma is listening to and “receiving” from his choreographers differently now… and maybe that’s what made me think of Daisuke? A sense of specificity in each movement, yes, but also a sense of… freedom, I guess?

Seeing people write about the This Town EX is bringing back a flood of memories. It's always been such a great program. I first saw him skate it at Helsinki Worlds in March, 2017. The first photo is very fuzzy - while he waits to go on the ice. Couldn't resist a Jumbotron shot. Note that here he is wearing the white if-I-breathe-my-pants-might-burst pants. Doesn't he look like a little kid in the one photo?! I guess he was! I think this may be the first time he skated it. (He competed at Coup du Printemps before Worlds,, but I don't think they had a gala there)

Yes, that may be where the NIVLACs made their debut! Sho had been in Chicago in early Jan. 2017. The he flew to Toronto and we were all wondering what he was doing in Toronto. He had gone to have David Wilson do choreo for him. Lo and behold, the beautiful This Town was born. 💜 :dbana: And the butterflies 🦋 were created!

Adding; I had to double check my history. He first skated This Town at the 4CC gala in Feb., 2017.

This is a fantastic thread of many of Sho's step sequences. Wow! That was a lot of work to put these all together. Thx to the kind poster. Amazing that even as a very young skater, he had the ability to do such great step sequences. The majority of these were done by Coach Fluffy. I would have a hard time picking my top favorite, but I'd probably have to go with Loco.
