One of Nagoya's specialties is grilled eel (hitsumabushi) so if you want to look for that... I recommend. Less daunting are their chicken wings (tebasaki) and shrimp riceballs (tenmusu) which are great too.Sadly, I was unable to get into Yakiniku Rion by myself without a reservation on a Thursday....Oh well. At least I know where it is and at least the people in charge were kind about turning me down. Also, I was able to see some of Shoma's autographs in the entrance to the restaurant while I waited. I guess I'll head over to a sports bar and attempt to find a date...
Ah yes, I remember getting some tenmusu during my first Nagoya trip...but the tempura was a bit moist and I sadly don't think they were freshly made. I'd be interested in trying hitsumabushi if I were there in summer...now I want to see if I can find a good plate of miso katsu! As I recall, Shoma said it was his favorite local specialty! I had a tiny piece of miso katsu in a train station bento when I left Nagoya last time, but I don't think that counts, lol.

. Skate Canada 2018, Montreal. Only time I ever saw him hit the wall during a competition! I'm laughing cos I can see myself walking down to the ice to throw him a gift afterwards (most likely some Calvins!). This is what I miss -- Shoma the fierce competitor.

You're not kidding. What a difference when I watched 4CC. Bent free leg, no pointed toe in the spins, poor upper body tension. Sheesh.
I was thinking about the same thing! Shoma's movement quality is just so good, and I also love the way he's able to weave tension in and out of his body, creating a beautiful contrast in the depth of his movements with the music. I think there are a lot of great jumps and beautiful choreography right now in competition, but combining it all with the music and finishing it off with purposeful presentation is not an easy thing to do.
