Shoma Uno

Images of Sho from the variety show. I haven't seen much info yet. Rumor has it he even ate a carrot!!!! :jaw:
He looks so good!!!!!! That artfully stray hair... lol.

Someone made a fanart of last night's show... I really wondered what exactly is the concept of this show, lol. They seem to eat many foods and guessed the price of them? And Shoma came 3rd last night hehe.

A fan reported Shoma's food commentary:

Shoma, eating Wagyu meat: "It's very tasty. I don't like fatty meat, but it's not fatty at all. It's very refreshing, yet the meat is juicy and delicious."

Shoma, eating carrots: "It's carrots."

As expected 🤣

There is clearly a reason why Shoma is an artist on the ice...and not an artist with pen and paper. 😂

For some reason I think Shoma's drawing was cute...even though I have enough artistic knowledge to understand that his version of Emma looks like a furry frog. 🐸😂
Has Shoma ever talked about his grandfather? I would love to hear a story about the two of them together.

I was able to watch the whole show before the video got taken down. It was nice. The food looked delicious. The host and guests were really funny at times. I was laughing right along with Shoma. I can’t decide what my favorite part was. I liked them all when he went against one of the others to cook beef on a pan to make it medium rare, the dance because Shoma’s fancy footwork was so cool he was a leader, the bang bang born game, when they watched Mr. Bug man fish at night, them watching other items on the market being used, seeing who would be chosen for the special desert after each of their tabs were run…

I had Wagyu beef once and it was phenomenal. I don't know what he's talking about with not liking fatty meat. I've seen him eating meat where it's so fatty I was dying just looking at it, and you could easily see the fat in the video! :laugh2:

Thx for the summary @Figskater23.

Shoma's back in Nagoya! He was visiting Chukyo TV for The Ice promo, and of course he reunited with Emma. Even while waiting in a car, Emma still has her Shoma radar on!

This cantilever on land... lol 🤣

By the way, Shoma will skate a new solo program at The Ice in collaborations with Kodo, a Japanese drums group. I have always wanted Shoma to skate to a heavy percussions piece so this will be interesting 👀

Announcement:

What Kodo sounds like:

The question becomes...... will he skate shirtless like the drummers in the video 👀

This should be so cool! I went to a Japanese drumming concert and loved it. Instead of being shirtless, maybe he will wear one of Gramps' suits for his costume!!!!!! :jaw:

That Emma video made me realize how much I miss all those videos at the Uno house. If she could talk, I know she would have been saying, "Wait, is he really here!!!!"

Also one more content, lol. Yesterday there were so many Shoma content published!

This was another program of Number, titled "2 CIRCLES" the circles here referring to timetables. So Shoma talked about 2 timetables of 2 days: the day of his last ever day of competition, and his usual day off.

The automatic translation is.. hard to follow, but there is a Number article here summarizing the first part of the video, which is the last day of his competitive career: the Worlds 2024 FS.

It's an interesting look to how he approached his final competitive day, and I found it refreshing and relieving. He has matured so much, and it makes perfect sense to me why he has finally outgrown the need for competitions in his life. He admitted that he felt bitter about his last skate not being the best it can be like he saw many other skaters retiring do it, but he also thought that it can become a motivation for his future and that there is no use in dwelling on negative feelings.

Since it's still Shoma, he... forgot if he had breakfast or not on that day 🤣 but he said he probably had one if he was hungry.

Also I think he told this story before in an earlier interview, but I'm glad he was able to cry a bit after the FS when he met Stephane. Regardless of whether he was dissappointed or not of his last skate, it was a very emotional moment and I'm glad he had the people who he are close with at Worlds.

His day off remains the same with full lazing around mode 🤣 but he did say he should make some changes now that he doesn't have "on" and "off" days. Shoma is a hikkikomori / homebody and he thanks Marin for getting him out of the house to hang around and go to places.

It's 30 June and New Year's Eve for skating fans in Japan.
I will miss Shoma so much when I see new season's GPs and Championships without him.
It must be good time to remember Shoma's career as a competitive skater.
I just found this on Shoma fan fest.
So difficult to answer.

1) Your favorite performance of Shoma
I want to try answering this one by one, after the end of Shoma's competitive career. Thank you @jerrymouse333 for posting it again!

(1) My Favorite Performance of Shoma

Wow this is very hard, lol. I'll try to keep it to the last 12 (twelve) months and.... well, it's obviously NHK Trophy 2023 FS, which was Timelapse and Spiegel im Spiegel.

There are a lot of memories (good and bad) attached to this program, but I remember how in awe I am that Shoma managed to make the program work in competition, under the bright lights. The NHK audience also helped in creating that profound moment of silence throughout his program. This FS is so hard to perform. The music selection and the way it's cut is not exciting at all, lol. It builds in the first half only to kill all momentum in the second half. It's very punishing to any flaw in anyone's skating. One cannot be too smooth and also cannot be too rough, cannot be too slow and also cannot be too fast. It's just very hard and complicated to do, in the most quiet way. Just like Shoma's career.

And yet he managed to skate like that. Even the popped quad, and how he recovered it at the very end. To me this was the final statement of who Shoma really is as a competitor. He is calm and calculating, he knows how to push himself physically, and yet he is also a natural artist who was able to skate like that because of the love he has inside him for the people he loves. Knowing that he skated that to cheer Stephane up was really one of the most touching moment in Shoma's career to me. He can skate like that not just because he wants the gold, the medals and the scores, but above all, he just wants to make someone that he truly loves happy.

I think that's what makes Shoma so irreplaceable for me. Like there are so many more talented skaters, so much better than him at jumping, at doing transitions, at doing compulsory. But no one skates the way he does. And the reason he skates the way he does is because of who he is as a person. If he had similar ambitions as other skaters, he wouldn't be able to skate like that. So yeah, I have a lot of feelings about this performance and it will probably remain one of my favorites when I look back.

Honorable Mentions: All performances of his 2023/2024 SP but especially the first one I watched which was his SP at The Ice Nikko, Come Together at GPF 2023, Bolero at SOI 2024, and Ladies in Lavender at PIW May 2024. And of course the DOMO he skated in PIW January 2024 - because I watched it live! Hehehehe.

The bloopers! Shoma's smiling starfishes! Marin's laughter! I am so happy 🥰🥰🥰

I was laughing so hard when they were laughing 😆 Their laughter is so contagious! I’m going to find out what they said in the video from a friend who could translate. It’s so random but when Marin had the camera pointed down at Shoma when he was laughing so hard I thought he was going to seriously tickle her when they are done skating. Not for us to see of course.
