Shoma Uno

Many are writing their thoughts on X. Sounded like there was a good crowd with lots of excitement!

"Watching the whole show,
it reminded me of Mao Asada's long-running Thanks Tour
while retelling Shoma's programs from his active days
it created a new piece with new direction and costumes and lighting unique to the show, and it felt like a continuing collaboration, taking advantage of the excitement in the venue
the audience and the venue felt close."

Congratulations to the whole cast. Sounds like it was a great first day.

More photos.

Just by looking through the images in the Deep Edge Plus gallery, I can feel all the love that was put in these performances and the fun everyone had while performing them! 🥲

I still have SO MANY FEELINGS AND EMOTIONS but I think Shoma should think about getting into the ice show producing world. He showed off EVERYONE as skaters and performers and individuals so well in the show. I'm still grappling with how incredible it all is.
I'm so glad that this is the "multiplayer game" that I had hoped it would be! 🥲🎮

I have my flight home this morning so I will not have time to write a detailed report.... but I will soon! Just enjoy the photos that are published by the Japanese media, because honestly while the photos are AMAZING it really doesn't prepare you of how amazing the show was. It was such an intense, gorgeous, thoughtful and also cheeky show- very fitting of Shoma really.

Also stunning, incredible costumes all around from start to finish. And Shoma really has an incredible program music playlist, all selections are great and they flew so quickly from start to finish like all his programs.

Aaahhhhh I wish you guys can see it.... that first show really was for the books because it's when we found out what this show is giving us and the insane quality of everything. There was a moment where it took me right back to 2019 when I last went to The Ice, how the venue rumbled after Shoma skated Grespi and announced it will be his new SP. To experience it again 6 years later is just sooooo good.

Shoma has really the best team, and you can just see how happy he is to skate with the people he love the most in the world. It's not quite a "my greatest hits" skating show... it really drives home how Shoma has grown up so incredibly well to be a mature, thoughtful man, and just how much potential he has not as only a skater but as a person... and most of all, he is a person who loves with all his heart and is loved in return.

Great spirit too, surely?

Finally we have local news reports this morning 😭😭😭 there is SO MUCH MORE of the show they are not showing but at least you can see Grespi opening, a bit of Loco, Legends and Bolero, Shoma skating the new program Wild Side with Marin and his MC-ing time with the audience.

More Shomarin skating 😍😍😍😍😍😍 The twizzles! The lifts!

y'all i've missed so much... my excuse is that adulting is hard lol. this ice show is a dream to me...blond shoma?? ice dance duet with marin that includes lifts and twizzles?? reunion with stephane?? it's all too much for my fangirl heart. i promise i will be more active from now on; i don't wanna miss anything hahaha.

By the way, Shoma uses the same shoes and blades he uses for skating and doing ice dance elements with Marin, to also do 2A and triples, 3A (especially in his solo Loco program because he kept THAT 3A, if you know what I mean) and 4T in the outro of the show before and after waving to the audience:

1st show - 4T
2nd show - 4T3Tso
3rd show - 4T and 4T3T

How did he do that? Well, Goichi, their friend who is a blade specialist and sharpener from the skating shop Kosugi Skate, specifically the ones in Tokyo and Yokohama, explains on his twitter:

Translation:

The blade featured in the #IceBrave logo is called the YS Blade "Yui" (結).

The name was chosen with the meaning:
"Two people coming together, supporting one another, and becoming one."

As many of you might have noticed, "Yui" is designed for ice dance.
We never intended it to be used for jumping 3As or 4Ts or anything like that (laughs).

Like, "Can you even jump with this?"
"Huh?!" — that kind of reaction (laughs).
We were like, What is Shoma even talking about?! (laughs)

It takes a lot of courage for a skater to switch blades.

We shortened the blade as much as possible to reduce resistance,
and the toe pick is just barely there, only as much as necessary, to cut down on noise.

We made it super narrow to sharpen edge transitions,
and gave it the tightest and most unstable curve among existing blades — all to maximize freedom of movement in skating.

So really, it’s the complete opposite of what competitive skaters would use!

Even the way you jump an Axel had to change completely.
Shoma had to go for height over distance in his 3A.

And you know, changing your jumping style like that isn't easy. It's incredible!

Plus, this "Yui" blade glides so much that when skating as a pair, if both skaters aren’t using it, they can’t even train properly at the same level.

So that meant Marin had to switch too.
That’s serious commitment!

You could really feel how hard they’ve both worked. It was truly beautiful.

With the Fukuoka show just around the corner, please take care of your health and avoid injury!
Keep bringing joy to everyone in the audience!

Honestly, just seeing you both skate with such great expressions makes people happy (laughs).
Finish strong! You’ve got this!!

The YS blades are the blades Shoma used in the final years of his competitive career (2019/2020 onwards) and more and more top Japanese skaters are using them. It is made by Yamaichi Special Steel, the Nagoya-based manufacturer for Takahiko Kozuka's Kozuka blades (that Shoma also used) before developing their own line. Shoma also helped them connect with TOYOTA.

YS blades are special because their blades is made by a single block of steel: it doesn't bend nor break. The company owners, fittingly, came from people who used to make steel swords for Japanese samurais.
