You guys lost your minds when David Pellitier said they could take a bathroom break for the first 2 minutes of Alina's program. Like seriously lost your minds. And by the way this always said more about his not appreciating good spinning and footwork rather than anything to do with him being anti Alina.

if you mean me, then to be frank, I can't care less that Pellitier says and most definitely would never demand him being fired.

p.s there is a big difference between saying something on job and off job at your IG page.

Yeah there is this comment below his apology which i think is the perfect response to that

Translation:

"I think you have a poor understanding of who transsexuals are. Having lived abroad for 16 years, 10 of them in Canada, and knowing some of these sexual minorities, I can say that they DO not choose this path. "They did not Wake up in the morning with the thought of whether I should become a trans?", as a rule, these people have a huge number of psychological problems that they themselves can not cope with! And not everyone has the money to afford the expensive help of psychologists! This is why such funds are created. Based on your words in this video, you say that this is propaganda. No, this is not propaganda - this is the same aid Fund as all others. There are no pictures on this Fund telling what they do in bed. And if they are not like you, then they are not human??? "

from reading the translation of the article, i don't really think he is sorry. he has made homophobic remarks time after time in the past and he only apologized because he was called out for how downright mean and messed up his post was.

he also clearly doesn't understand the situation in America with racism and why there are funds set up- he commented on something he has no knowledge about and clearly didn't bother to educate himself either, and has a big problem that a gay person donated to one of these funds.

then he goes on to say trans people "chose" their paths and he has nothing against the LGBTQ community, which is a crock of **** based on his previous comments about Jason Brown. dude is a homophobe and he's trying to backpedal to make himself look better. the damage has already been done and it's obvious what his opinions are on Adam, Jason and the rest of the members of that community.

sorry, but this guy is a crap human being.

There are limits on free speech. There have always been limits on free speech. For example in the U.S. you can not yell fire in a crowded theater (and other such examples) because such speech is inflammatory and might cause real damage to the public.

yeah, yeah.

nobody denies that.

Here in Canada we have laws against denying the holocaust and hate speech toward protected groups. All of these laws work against the concept of absolute free speech.

sorry to disappoint you but there in Cadana you don't have freedom of speech at all.

Agreed and i was one of many who criticized CBC commentary in that occasion, cause i thought it was a little unprofessional, but that was absolutely nothing compared to this.

I just thought that this showed why S/P should have lost to B/S because if the only thing that matters to David is jumps then he has missed the point. His comments were dumb. He is french Canadian and as someone who lives right on the Quebec border and has had french friends all my life they are a more blunt version of Canadians. English Canadians tend to dance around and we are often trying to avoid conflict and offending people but we can end up just sounding like we are wishywashy. Americans and French Canadians are nearly always more straight forward in how they speak.

And yet Yagudin can say this about Adam and it is all "free speech" and "let people have opinions".

He is free to say whatever he wants. He is not free from the consequences of his speech.

I will say this: If a Canadian person I formerly admired and respected spoke this way I would want them removed from the airwaves of the CBC (and they would be) and I would no longer be a fan. If this was Kurt I would probably be really sad and angry but I would want him removed from tv.

His comments reflect very negatively on him to me. If he was coaching my child I would immediately remove my child from his sphere of influence.

He a pairs skater was attacking a 15 year old! Singles skater. That would be like a great doubles player in tennis criticizing Rodger Federer . ;) Would he have said that about a Canadian girl on Alina's level? Nyet. ;) People picked up on it and piled on with that angle. To discredit Alina and her coach which annoyed some people here. But Peas I will say Yagudins comments we're as Hillary Clinton would say deplorable. I have no idea why no one in Russia sat him down and say don't go there the backlash hits all of us. You know he's in figure skating his whole life you would think he would be acceptable of people of all beliefs or sexuality. If he has certain harsh beliefs about gays then he's entitled to those beliefs but he should not bring them on the airwaves. It makes Alexei Yagudin all-time great figure skater with an Olympic gold medal and 4 World titles look homophobic and out-of-touch.. that's on him and Channel One.

Pardon me but where did you read him claiming being sorry for "homophobic remarks"?!

he said he was emotional when he said that Rippon deserved to die, said he didn't wish death to anybody and appologized for it.

The paradox of tolerant people is that they are eerily non-tolerant to non-tolerant people. And the very basis of tolerance presupposes tolerance towards all, including those who are not tolerant and not imposing their point of view on others.
Otherwise, tolerance becomes absurd and more and more divides people into two camps instead of uniting them. And as long as this propaganda continues, the abyss will grow.

Apparently that's what Yagudin was trying to convey. No one wants his children to live in a world of absurdity and idiocrity.

i never said he was sorry for his homophobic remarks in the past, my whole post was referring to what he said about his instagram post. to be clear, i don't think he is sorry for any of it.

i don't care if youre "emotional", wishing death on someone is a really really messed up thing to do, and again i do not think he is truly sorry for it at all. there would have been no apology if there was no backlash.

Not attacking. He was being critical and his comments were silly. That is not the same as wishing death on someone. And he did say some very critical things about other skaters. You should hear him harp about finishing your pairs performance on a spin. He criticized her choreography.

I have no problem with people not liking criticism (especially if that criticism is unfair) but it isn't the same as some of the comments Yagudin has made on air about skaters he finds effeminate. David did not criticize Alina's character or her morals.

And btw David largely disappeared from the CBC commentary. It was overwhelmingly Kurt and Carol Lane and I think part of it was his blunt way of stating his opinions was unpalatable to a lot of Canadians.

It is illogical to request "tolerance" for homophobia, racism or transphobia. A false equivalency which would not stand up to scrutiny even in Spousal Unit's first year Greek Philosophy course.

Yags' "non-apology" once again demonstrates the reasoning of a five year old. Shaking my head:noshake:

Yagudin has always had a big mouth and I doubt that it will ever change... I think that as long as the Russian national tv and the Russian audiences have no problems with his style of doing skating commentary, and anyway it is not our business at all. That commentary is not meant for our ears.

And by the way.. No one is calling for Yagudin to be put in jail or tarred and feathered in the streets. That is where the freedom of his speech begins and ends.

If people in Russia feel that his speech is hateful and he should lose his job over it that does not mean he does not have freedom of speech. That means he has freedom from employment. (in other, less ironic words- His speech may have consequences for him that do not involve his imprisonment. Those consequences are where the line between freedom of speech and freedom of from responsibilities for your actions lands.)

As for me I can no longer consider myself to be a fan of his but I have no financial clout here. If people feel strongly about it they will push the advertisers to push the networks to remove him. People listen to money. When a youtuber, for example, gets cancelled they are not removed from youtube (normally) but they are dropped by sponsors and lose views and they take a hit to pocket book. If I were a person in Russia who supported the LBGQT community I would not want Yagudin to continue to profit from my support for televised skating with him as a commentator I would make my feelings known the broadcaster and the sponsors and that would be my right.

True.

If translation is correct that was not much of an apology from Alexi. Always said as he does not want anyone to die. Well I hope not.

No. That was his apology, that was his explanation when he saw how big the outrage is. He was simply homophobic, who wishes there were no such people on earth. You can't explain that sentence on other way and he was rude as many times. Or he was drunk, he did typos in his text that was very unsusal from him according to some Russians. I don't understand he doesn't want to grow his daughters in such environment but talks openly about how many times he cheated on his wife in tabloid.

Having done something bad doesn't mean you want your kid to grow up in a world where what you did is normalized.

I haven't read that interview so I don't know what did he mean, but mere fact of saying you cheated on your wife doesn't mean you consider it as something positive.

It destroys completely his argument of not wanting his daughters growing up in a world where one is allowed to talk openly about trans and gays. He seems on the right path to "educate" PUBLICLY his daughters on love in his own heterosexual couple. I think, this guy is just your stereotypical good ol' boy with a big dose of stupidity to boot.
Too bad he seems to have enough connections to be a commentator on TV ... I guess the reward for past glory!

In first place, it's not on him to decide in which world his daughters should grow up, but on his daughters and the generation of his daughters. His argument doesn't just sound stupid, but narcissistic at least. He could just say he was drunk and angry and didn't think straight  at that moment (as i can bet he was), and done with it.

There is even a law in place, propaganda of non-traditional sexual relationships among minors is not allowed
