Early in the program Scott said he almost knocked Tessa out — accidentally hit her. They got visibly stuck on their last lift — the one that he apparently hurt his neck on. That knocked the lift down to the lowest level. Also apparently they lost some levels on some other things.
This doesn't bother me at all. They know what they need to work on and I expect their scores will just go up as the season goes on. And, importantly, I liked the program as a whole. I think it's a good vehicle.
Exactly this. I really love this program. It absolutely suits them, and will be a great contrast to Carmen. I really love how the polka and rest of the program blend so seamlessly. The technical elements are completely fixable. V/M always improve throughout the season. Next outing will more than likely be 10 points higher. I don't have a problem with their PCS scores so high. Their skating skills, interpretation, unison, beauty, quality edges, and so on are really in a class by themselves. It's simply divine. You'll notice there are no 10's in the score sheet this time. By the end of the season I'm sure there will be.
Zueva should call in a known technician, or send her students elsewhere for a week, for Yankee Doodle and step sequence boot camp. (I'm not sure we can blame this entirely on Zueva, since the Canton teams did miss levels on their pattern dance sequences last year even with Igor. And none of his teams this year earned level 4's.) They need a specialist for this. V/M were just off a little on the twizzles, and they are capable of doing much better. I expect the lift will be changed.
Of the other teams:
- really liked C/L. They are dressed well, moved well, and are just lovely. And awfully easy on the eyes....
- liked H/D. They have a ton of potential. Gorgeous, well matched team.
- French had the most entertaining program. I was expecting to hate the program, but it was just so cheesy it worked for me. By worlds this should be a lot of fun.
- Really glad that G/P received more appropriate marks. I was hoping an international judging panel would put some sense into the placement of this team. I love that they are having fun together, but they need to be more matched in skills, lines, edge etc. before they deserve the marks they have received in the past. And this will take some time, since skills like this are not built overnight. Watch the video, paying attention only to G/P feet, then compare with other teams. His are fine, but hers are really messy, missing toe points, and almost flat instead of on edges often.
- Still very sad for R/H. They need better material and better costumes. After such a good year last year, they are back to sub-par programs and packaging. So sad.
